Could We Get Free Agent WR?

56 posts in this topic

Injecting those young guys will likely be the best bet. I suggest you get them on your fantasy squad before all these other people who have never even heard of them do. Take heed!

Worst thing is to lose to some guy at work who is a Chargers fan and had never heard of Tandon Doss or David Reed but still managed to pick them up since they had good stats in weeks 2 and 3

I don't think so. Any FA worth getting would likely want more than we can pay. I think we will be filling in the WR positions with the draft. Hopefully Oz has his eye on a few good ones.

Hmm. I am not sure that of all our younguns, Doss and Reed are going to be the two standouts. I could be and hopefully am wrong. Maybe Streeter...

Is Julian Edelman still available?

If we are drafting a wide receiver, I don't want it to be in the later rounds. Period. No exceptions. I'm tired of these project receivers. Deandre Hopkins is my guy!

I have about as much faith in Doss and David Reed atm as our number 2 as I have for Jamarcus Russell making a successful comeback. Oh and that faith would be zero.

Come on, you at least give them more faith than that. Jamarcus has a better chance of being a lineman at this point than qb. I don't think Doss has been given a fair sample of plays to judge him off of. Reed is more of a special teamer, I don't think the Ravens think he will be taking over for Boldin.

Okay. Maybe I've just fallen in love with Deandre Hopkins too soon, but I'm just crazy about those guys that can make the catches Boldin did. What I saw from Doss In the colts game was the opposite of what was said about his strong hands coming out. As for David Reed, I hope he doesn't even see the field over Quan and Deonte

I think Wr is a position where there is always more room for talent, and I definitely agree that it should be addressed in the draft.

I didn't know much about Hopkins, but it looks like he could drop to the Ravens. Now we will see if the Ravens view him as the best available player when their pick comes up.

would like to see who gets released after the draft.. what names would be out there. But as many have reported.... Ozzie will most likely address the WR need through the draft instead of someone 28-29 years old, and play with us for a short period of time as compared to the younger guys,

We shouldn't sign a FA WR. The current WR market is dried up. There are three reasons why Ozzie wont sign a FA WR.
1) We could lose a compensatory pick for the 2014 draft depending on how the player left their previous team.
2) Signing a FA WR would take reps and game time from our young developing players, but this is unlikely as the market has little to no talent at WR left or even value.
3) It really depends on the price, but we need cap roll over for next year. Ozzie has shown he will make bold moves (and they always turn out to the smart moves) to save a small cap figure. Some examples are Bernard Pollard, AB and Bobbie Williams. Next year Dennis Pitta, Michael Oher, Jacoby Jones, Vonta Leach, Corey Graham, Arthur Jones and Ed Dickerson are slated to become UFAs next off season. Saving a few dollars here and there can go a long way in our attempt to retain some our talented players.

I wonder how much Danario Alexander is looking for? He would be a nice pick up.

I would one structure a contract for a guy that only plays half the season before his knee gives out a 6th time?

Eh, I think that a chance at a ring can make almost anybody into a, 'Ravens' type player (Titus Young excluded). I wasn't too high on the Jacoby signing because I thought he was a quivering pile of Jell-O and didn't have that 'Ravens' mindset we fans always go on about but obviously the guy proved me and a lot of other people wrong about that. I wouldn't mind at all if Lloyd joined up.

Patriot players don't talk highly about the guy
And didnt he go there with a chance to win a ring?
Sorry but just because he plays on the purple and black doesnt mean he will stop being a tool

I don't care about the man being a big ol' jerk, I care about him being a tool for Joe to utilize during the season.

Jacoby may be 2 valueable on returns to catch a lot of balls. He was one of our big play threats on teams.

We are not going to start the season with the WR's we have at this point.

We are also thin at LT.

Yeah because team unity and offensive cohesiveness isn't important

Nevertheless I merely pointed out how ridiculous it is to say he would change his tune to play for a ring with us. He is who he is.

 We were winning plenty when our offensive cohesiveness was anything but stable and we had guys like Mason clamoring for the ball and guys like Ed Reed openly criticizing our QB. Pffff, outta here with that.

We weren't winning plenty with those guys which is why billick got fired.
We aren't the bengals so sacrificing character for a guy who may or may not decide to do his job won't cut it.

Lets also remember where mason ended up playing the year after he tried to call out flacco.

Hopkins is my fave receiver in the draft. By a lot. He can play outside or slot. Faster than boldin. Most importantly he is clutch. He single handed lay took over the game against lsu last yr. just watch that game pm YouTube for all you need to know.

I did not want to start a whole topic on this but has anyone seen any videos or article on "Touchdown" Tommy Streeter...I really hope he gets some playing time and it ends up being better than Clarence Moore.

He's probably the odd man out at this point. He's behind Torrey, Jacoby, Doss, Reed, Thompson, and a potential draft pick. He doesn't contribute on ST so I'm not seeing how he gets a roster spot unless he blows up this offseason.

There are still some good FA WR's available.
How about Austin Collie or Randy Moss?
[/quote]While you are at it, also add T.O, Chad Johnson, Derrick Mason and any other WR you can think of?
