The Aaron Rodgers Sweepstakes - Signed Extension

28 posts in this topic

So, after Romo's contract the next two are almost certain to be Ryan and Rodgers. Rodgers is going to be the highest paid QB in the NFL for quite a while so I though it'd be fun to just throw out your prediction for what he gets.

I want to say 7 years, but he's already 29 and will be 30 in Dec. So, I'm thinking 6 year deal and they're gonna need to guarantee a big chunk of it so they can spread it out enough to make sense. My prediction:

6 years, $125mil with $60million guaranteed

6 year - 21 million per year - 126 million total - 60 million guaranteed

I doubt Rodgers will make his team over-pay his contract for the team.

He will get a little more than Joe Flacco, thus slowing the QB money surge. After Rodgers gets his contract done, then Stafford and Ryan will get similar deals.

IIt would be foolish to pay a QB $30 dollars or even $25 million dollars.

I could see a seven year deal. He didn't play his first few years so you have to think he is a little bit younger than his age. 7 years means he would finish his contract at 36 I believe. As long as he isn't taking 86 sacks in just a couple of seasons like he has been he should be in the league for a while.

I feel Rodgers will get a similar deal to Joe and Romo. 6 year deal with only the first 3 years of the deal mattering. Im thinking he gets 22/23 mil per year. He wont get 25 due to the team cap constrictions and will likely get more guaranteed money than Joe and Romo to make up for it. All in all I think it will be

6 years front loaded, 23 mil per year, 65 mil guaranteed.

Apparently the Packers want to give him a shade over $21m/year, but Rodgers wants $2m more than that.

I'm guessing we'll see a deal by the end of the offseason, maybe after the draft.

6 years/135 mill/62 guaranteed.

I had heard that they were looking for a shorter term deal, but that just doesn't make any sense to me when you take into account guaranteed money. So I'm sticking with the 6 years.

Green Bay's problem not ours, but then in 6 years, it might be a big problem for us if Flacco lives up to his contract.

If Rodgers land that $25 million per year, then I assume in 10 years, a QB will sign a $30 million per year contract. That's more than A Rod's contract, but with 146 less games.

NFL contract for QB is crazy, but the price for everything else is down. I guess QB is gold now.

5 years for 110 million. Getting that 6th year on Flacco's contract was a great victory for the FO.

$40 million in Year One. How is GB going to pay anyone else? I'm confused lol

I think Aaron Rodgers sets the limit and any QB that gets paid more than him better be damn good.

Andrew Luck?

Robert Griffin III?

I doubt Matt Ryan or Matt Stafford will beat Aaron Rodger's contract.

Same way Flacco isn't killing us right now. Although we have exactly 6 years and 120.6m to pay out. GB has 7 years to pay out 132m total (the remaining two years on his contract + five more years). So while we'll have low cap hits for the first 2-3 years, I'm guessing GB is going to be around 20m/year every year.

So essentially, Rodgers in hindsight took a cap friendly deal even though he is getting paid $40M in 2013. Wish Joe would have took $110 instead of $120. Thanks Green Bay for making Flacco's deal look worse.

Huh? Flacco's contract is VERY cap friendly and has a "built in" restructure point. Rodgers, contract will be painfull each year.

Rodgers deal was five years. He got more money annually. What are you talking about?

Yeah I don't see anything cap friendly about $20 mil per. And that is actual cap hit from what I've read.
