Spring has sprung! :)

25 posts in this topic

My husband took our oldest out golfing today. In Florida, we golfed year round, but this is still a welcome sign of Spring for me! :) Let's hope this weather continues to improve and not that there will probably be no Spring and will just go instantly into summer!

Happy Easter weekend, everyone! :)

Was 63 degrees today!!!! Me and The Man went to our favorite National Wildlife Refuge this afternoon.

And despite the fact that I will be broke for the next week and a half and despite the fact that I cracked a $90 piece of camera equipment while we were there, this Saturday for me was splendid! :)

My other day off will be Monday. We're forecast for snain on Monday. Monday we stay home and I get chores done. :)

You live on a vacation spot. I live behind the mountains of the freaking east bay.....

Great weather during the day. The weather at night sucks.

Allergy and Tax season......

I get the snowbirds, and the lack of a decent education system(in other parts of Florida anyway, sounds like you go to a good school).

BUT IT'S A BEACH ZONE.
The schools are pretty terrible except for magnet programs within schools. Like one school in my area called Suncoast has a student not even ranked top 10 in their class that is choosing between full-rides to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Duke because they were in the Math, Science, Engineering Program... Our current valedictorian got full-rides to Dartmouth and Duke but turned them down to go to UF for his girlfriend. Most of our kids in IB got huge scholarships to go to Miami. The kids at our school not in a magnet basically all go to UCF. Yes the girls are definitely a plus. ;) Snowbirds are the absolute worst drivers in history.

I loved living in Florida, but I was also within 10 minutes of UF, and I had the benefits of a smaller town atmosphere with an ability to take my oldest son to Gators games. I don't think I could live in South Florida. It's too hot down there, and society there is completely different than what it was in Gainesville. I really enjoyed the decade plus I lived in Florida though. This (Maryland), I told my husband is going to be our last stop. But I would welcome a lake residence in Florida. :)
South Florida is an incredibly odd culture ranging from eccentric multi-millionaires and incredibly upper class towns (the occasional billionaire) to ghettos with horrible gang problems. I personally hate the weather here, and although it is colder in Gainesville I still hate Gainesville... 1 more year until I'm out of here!
Georgetown is the goal but I'm also looking at Boston University, Pitt, Duke, UVA, Chapel Hill, UMASS, Clemson and Maryland. Chapel Hill is my reach school at the moment but I have a solid chance of getting into any of the schools on my list. So basically somewhere a bit more north but still on the east coast is where I am thinking of going.

Your going to be in for a shock in winter if you go to Boston, UMASS or even Pitt.
No, I've lived up North before. My dad used to work on Capitol Hill as a lobbyist. The cold just doesn't bother me. Plus I visit there a lot since my cousin teaches at BU and my whole dad's side of the family live in the pittsburgh area. (his great grandfather actually played for the steelers predecessors... The Latrobe steelers if I remember correctly)
It is and isn't at the same time since technically it means I have steeler blood in my family... But ya I'm excited about it. The only real downside is alot of my friends are going very different places so we are basically all splitting up.
