Tony Romo's 6 year, $108 million extension

54 posts in this topic

Jerry Jones wreck the Cowboys after firing Jimmy Johnson. He's got too much ego for winning those three super bowls of the 90's, but that's because the Vikings were dumb enough to do "The Great Train Robbery." After that, we now see what Jones
really is when he's keep making bad moves after bad moves. I guess karma struck back.

However, I have no complaint, neither does the NFC East because one badly organized team means one less competition for the Lombardi. Cowboys always look good on paper due to the massive overpayment of players, but they don't have cohesion or depth to go deep into the playoffs.

Good Luck Romo! I don't blame you because you got paid a lot of stay in Dallas.

Good thing, I don't root for the Cowboys, unless I got a player on their team. However, couple years ago, some running-back named DeMarco Murray got himself hurt and ended my playoff hopes. Since then, I haven't draft a Cowboy after that. I did sign Dan Bailey as a free agent to help me win a championship.

atleast we give a lot of money to a good QB
The great thing about the Joe contract is that he's already won the big one. We aren't paying him for something he MIGHT do down the road. Joe proved before the deal that he could lead a team to the promised land.

Actually all the QBs, especially good ones have all the leverage due to the fact that teams without a stable QBs are desperate to throw enormous draft picks and money to lock one up. Even back-up QBs are going for than what some starters in other positions make.

I wonder which team will be the first to trade their Qb for a bounty of picks?

Probably Chicago ships off Cutler for a load of picks to a QB-needy teams, if he doesn't deliver next year.
Looks like Matt Flynn, who's started one?? game to Oakland for multiple picks, freeing up Carson Palmer - Raiders ready to admit that one's a bust.

Honestly, Romo (like PFM) is way better than his playoff record suggests, and I don't blame Jones for paying him.

Still, Joe is the only one one who hasn't even glimpsed his ceiling yet, much less reached it.

Romo's contract doesn't surprise me in the least. Especially with the Cowboys having like $1.50 left under the salary cap before the deal (it was like $30,000 left or something like that).

This is the new market in the NFL ... get use to it. It doesn't matter that he only has 1 playoff win. The Saints nailed the QB bar high and that's where it is. When you have almost a third of the teams in the NFL who would do almost anything for a good, solid QB teams have almost zero leverage if they want to keep their most critical position stable.

Kept telling people on the other sites who were bashing the Ravens and Flacco ... this is the new reality. Flacco and Romo just are the first ones to come along after the Brees deal. You know Flynn is going to be right there and won't be happy if he makes less than Flacco so he's gonna hold Atlanta hostage ... and I can't even imagine what Aaron Rodgers is going to make .. unless he wants to become a God in GB and signs for way less "for the good of the team".

Good News, Bad news time.

Bad News: If Jerry doesn't do anything to improve the defense or offensive line, he has guaranteed himself 6 more years of no playoffs.

Good News: Tony Romo can now buy his way into the U.S. Open!

Here's the hysterical part to me. I was poking Cowboys and Falcons fans because ... well, just because and took a peek since they had decided, of course, to drag Flacco into this. So I mentioned that regular season hasn't been Romo's biggest problem, its been post-season. So, lets look at stats there to see if he deserved contract like Flacco's (taking into account Romo has been in the league 4 years longer than Flacco):

Romo : 3 post-season appearances - 1 win/3 losses - 832 yds - 6.2 yd/att - 4 TD - 2 INT - 5 FUM
Ryan : 4 post-season appearances - 1 win/4 losses - 1230 yds - 6.6 yds/att - 9 TD - 7 INT - 3 FUM
Flacco: 5 post-season appearances - 9 wins/4 losses - 2672 yds - 7.2 yd/att - 19 TD - 8 INT - 5 FUM

Pretty obvious difference there ... then I added the other huge contract QB and the about to be huge contract QB:

Romo : 3 post-season appearances - 1 win/3 losses - 832 yds - 6.2 yd/att - 4 TD - 2 INT - 5 FUM
Ryan : 4 post-season appearances - 1 win/4 losses - 1230 yds - 6.6 yds/att - 9 TD - 7 INT - 3 FUM
Rodgers: 4 post-season appearances - 5 wins / 3 losses - 2312 yds - 7.9 yds/att - 18 TD - 5 INT - 5 FUM
Brees : 5 post-season appearances - 5 wins / 4 losses - 2980 yds - 7.6 yds/att - 22 TD - 4 INT - 8 FUM
Flacco: 5 post-season appearances - 9 wins/4 losses - 2672 yds - 7.2 yd/att - 19 TD - 8 INT - 5 FUM

I found that interesting .. I especially liked to see the increase in Joe's post-season performance/production year after year. That said, I can't wait to see what Ryan does to the Falcons after Romo's contract. :D

It's gonna be soooo funny to see Matt Ryan's contract lol.

Every Falcon fan was convinced he would be under $100M... going to be a rude awakening with many ruffled feathers.

LOL. Romo gets $108mil but with more guaranteed than Flacco? Maybe now all the "Flacco contract" complainers will shut their pieholes! Using Romo's contract as a benchmark, the Ravens got a steal.

I can't believe the Cowboys paid that much for a QB over 30 with one playoff win. And they wonder why they get in such financial trouble.

Nooooope. In fact, there's a bunch of them that see this as exactly the same as Flacco's contract. And then there's the group group who are now saying this is all Flacco's fault because he started it all with his contract. Isn't that special?

Not sure why everyone is trying to give Drew Brees and the Saints a pass on raising the QB salary like this.
It's funny because if you go to the Falcons board all of them think he's better than Flacco (most of them think he's top 5...lololol). Yet, they don't wait to pay him like Flacco. Funny how that works.

Because the mass media has convinced a lot of fans that there are certain (I won't use the word) QBs worth that kind of money.

Hit the nail on the head. Jerry Jones is THE MAIN PROBLEM about the Cowboys. He's become to the Cowboys what Al Davis was to the Raiders. Davis also refused to hire a GM, Jerry Jones refuses to hire a GM.
Except Al Davis was beneficial to the entire NFL. Something J.J. will never be.

Disclaimer: This is meant to be a parody of a news report and funny. This is all just for fun and meant to poke fun at Romo and the Cowboys.

Report: Jerry Jones claims Cowboys were robbed.

"Well I just don't know what happened, said Jones. I had $108 million in my bank account and now it's gone". Authorities have not been able to solve the case but are talking to suspects as we speak. The primary suspect in this case, quarterback Tony Romo was seen at the local bank and it seemed suspicious.

"Romo comes here regularly and puts his checks in the bank like he normally does but today was a bit off" said the clerk. He had more money than usual and so I called the police and Romo was taken into question where he admitted to stealing the money."

"Look, playing quarterback is tough, you just don't understand what it's like having a guy Pierre-Paul chase you twice a year. That takes a toll on you, and I needed the money. Joe Flacco just stole $120M from the Ravens, why isn't anyone questioning him?"

In the end, Romo was sentenced to 6 years of choking and no playoff appearances.
