So basically you're saying he'll either sign with someone before the draft or he wont........??

Sorry I couldnt resist. But on a serious note, i agree with you. I dont think Rolando solves the issue especially since we dont know about Jameel. However, Roland is only 23 which is the same age as a lot of this years draft picks. Drafting a guy could give us 2 young studs for years to come if they both pan out...

But signing Rolando was basically he same as us trading up to draft an ILB with our first pick, just so happens this draft pick has 3 years experience in the NFL already. I think we wait until late in the draft to grab another ILB, which leads me to believe Dansby wouldnt be a bad addition if we could get a 2yr deal worth $5million with $2mill guaranteed. Cap hit of $1.5 mill in the first year.

Honestly we could really use a good veteran LB in the middle of the field who has experience reading offenses and setting his guys up in the right spots and making adjustments. Jameel did it in Rays absence for a few games and did fine, but again who knows what version of him is returning.... and I dont know if I want that duty in Rolando's, Bynes', McClellan's, or a 1st year rookies hands.

Regarding your first sentence, when I read what he wrote, I immediately thought of John Madden. That sounds like a Madden statement.

I still would like to see Dansby come in because he provides depth and some veteran leadership. He's also got size, which appears to be something the FO wants right now. (Canty-6'7" 317lbs, Spears-6'4" 315lbs, McClain 6'4" 260) Pees is trying to build a Parcells type defense it seems, which is a more traditional 3-4 that requires larger inside linebackers who can take on guards. Dansby fits that need quite well at 6'4" 250. Furthermore, it wouldn't be a big deal to use some of the more athletic linebackers in obvious passing situations. I think bringing in Dansby would totally eliminate a need at the ILB which would help get Ozzie closer to being able to draft the BPA. That doesn't mean the Ravens wouldn't still draft some LBs, it would just keep them from having to draft for need.
[/quote]
Good analogy with the old Parcell 34 i never thought of it. I knew from day 1 Pees was going to have a more traditional 34 set but that analogy, given the moves, is bang on. Mcclain is a massive ILB and stacks and sheds well. Hall wont ever be under 255-260. Jameel is 250. We have large ILB on the roster now outside of Bynes.

I think he is content to wait it out for awhile until after the draft.

Thats what I said about both Dumerville and McClain. Ozzie is being very un-Ozzie like this season. Who knows we could go for him?

He made Dummerville a very modest offer. That really shifts the AFC balance of power between us and denver.

I am not saying I am unhappy with the signings so far. Just sort of boggled, since Ozzie has not recently done so much FA activity. It will be a whole new team, and a dangerous one.

I agree that there is a considerable power shift. The Broncos should not be overly pleased with our opening the season at their place.

I thought of Yogi Berra, but Madden works just as well.

I plead mental lapse on that one.

What I meant was: "Unless someone picks him up over the next few weeks, I don't see us signing him until after the draft."

Let me re-read that myself... yeah that makes more sense, I hope. :34853_brickwall:

I think we really do need a solid coverage LB to get a rotation with the McClains. I'd love Dansby but I'd wait until after the draft. After all if we get someone like Oggletree I doubt we'd need anybody else as that would give us a solid 3 LB rotation unless Dansby was willing to sign for the vet minimum or something close to it.

If we land only one ILB or God-forbids none, then I assume we're look for the last wave of free agency to fill our needs.

Karlos Dansby might be over his prime, but he was an effective LB last year.

James Harrison's market has been quiet too, but we have to see what's his demand is at now, that he has generated very little interest.

I wouldn't think this is indicative of Dansby being ruled out of CIN.

Hopefully, it means Dansby gets signed by Minnesota or even (hopefully) the Bears or Giants.

If you notice all the teams I mentioned are 4-3 teams. I find it strange Dansby has been on the market this long as he absolutely has talent and was a beast last year. My only guess is that teams who run the 3-4 don't see him as a fit for the team. Or maybe he's too expensive. I don't know. I don't get it.

I think it would be well worth looking at dansby now or just after the draft. His asking price us going to drop. I think one thing we are going to miss the most from Lewis this yr is his ability to diagnose an offense and line up the d correctly. Especially against qb s like Brady and Rodgers.

I think he'll be signed by then, to be honest. I know it doesn't seem likely right now since his market has been cold, but I honestly believe the Giants will be signing him soon. It's just a hunch.

That's not a bad hunch, he would be a perfect fit for them honestly.

It's just strange to me that he has been connected to 4-3 teams who have been playoff contenders. The Bears, Bengals & Giants are all 4-3 teams and he comes from a 4-3 team. It's peculiar to me. I'm not sure if perhaps he is the one who wants to remain in the 4-3, which is why he hasn't been signed by a 3-4 defense.

his price has dropped a notch now with bungals signing harrison and will only drop if he's not signed before the draft - at a low(er) price he's worth a more intensive look from either a 3-4 or 4-3 team

Dansby doesn't fit our need, since we already got a 2-down run stuffing RB in Rolando McClain. we need a coverage LB, but then Dansby can hold his zone well enough.

What? Are you hanging out with Arnie right now? (Inside joke)

Dansby is a very good LB and from what I remember he is one of the few LBs who can cover a RB or even a TE. I don't know what you are talking about. Maybe I read this wrong or something.

I think Dansby would be great but I suspect he wants to stick with a 4-3 defense. That's my best guess as to why he hasn't already been signed.

Let's not rush into things because we don't want to give away our hand about Arthur Brown, if he makes it past 20.

We need an all-purpose LB that can tackle, rush, and cover.
