Blackbirds Rule

Karlos Dansby anyone?

86 posts in this topic

He's 31 6-4 250lbs. He's still a very effective player and solid veteran player. If you could sign him to a 2 year 6-8 million dollar deal. It wouldn't hurt our cap that drastically. It keeps our 12 picks in a way that we can trade up and get long term fixes for cheap. Dansby would allow us a 2 year window to groom a starting LB out of a draft pick this year and next year. Dansby and McClain would solidify the middle. Only a DT, SS, OT, and WR would need to be addressed early. You could then draft 2 LB's in the later rounds such as a Klein or Nico to sit and learn behind McClain and Dansby. The other positive of Dansby besides his height is the fact that he is a proven 3 down LB who can cover.

With this signing in the first round you can patiently wait for Elam. Trade up in the second and get Armstead. Later in the draft target Montori for you DT. With the remaining picks just target BPA for added depth. Armstead can take on LT in preseason to see if he can handle it. If he can't this soon get McKinnie if available or just put Oher there and move Armstead to RT for the year.

the more he stays on the market, the lower his price tag, though i'm not really convinced we'll look at him and rather go and fill up at the position via draft and wait for camp cuts before we even try for a vet

In 2012, Dansby had 134 total tackles with 101 of them being solo tackles, and had a sack and forced fumble for the Dolphins
Dansby also did this with a torn triceps and played through the pain, which just shows how tough he can be in order to keep playing though that kind of injury.

Let's just wait until after the draft. With Ozzie having 12 draft picks we could get some incredible talent at the end of April.

I agree that drafting for the long term is good for the team. However, Dansby could give us the immediate help to really strengthen the middle. He is a proven player. We will just need to get him for the right price.

I'd love dansby, but we are pretty much out of cap space unless we release or restructure people

Since we are lacking talent at the position and hes a good vet, i would love to have him in. But obviously it comes down to value. I dont know what kind of price tag hes looking at and i think we are at 4ish left right now. Maybe someone can chime in on how much our draft picks will most likely cost. I dont see us being able to afford him, but would love to bring him in. We have already improved our defense from last year imo even with the hole we have now, just my opinion

I think Albert and Josh are talented. I'd like to give them a shot

I agree that we need to cut BA. I think we're waiting to see what kind of depth we can pick up at LB in the draft before we sever ties. Great guy, average-to-slightly above average ST player, below average coverage LB, abysmal run-stopping LB. Cody I think will be another Ellerbe, in that he will step up in his last year and get overpaid in FA next year... giving us yet another compensatory pick :-).

I'd love Dansby too but I prefer that we just get an ILB in the draft. Younger and most likely cheaper option.

The front office will do one of two things. Sign him or Rolando McClain as a last, cheap signing or double dip at ILB in the draft. I wouldn't be surprised (if they passed on Dansby and McClain) if they took Arthur Brown/Manti Te'o in the first and then someone like Jon Bostic/Kevin Riddick/Sio Moore in the later rounds.

We have three must fill needs right now still. ILB, LT, and WR. I think we will still take a safety, defensive lineman, and probably tight end at some point in the draft as well but I believe that the higher rounds will be spent on the three big needs as of right now. I wouldn't mind something like this..

1st - Arthur Brown/Manti Te'o
2nd - Da'Rick Rogers/Robert Woods
3rd - Chris Faulk/Vance McDonald
4th - Jon Bostic/Kevin Riddick

I'll echo most people here. I think we'll wait until after the draft to make any more moves.

I don't think dansby is drawing much interest and as a result I wouldn't attempt to sign him until after the draft too

He is a good player but with the line and addition of Doom and Huff, we can risk getting an athletic ILB that can stuff the run and cover and develop him behind a monster line with Ngata and Spears and Canty that will eat up blocks like fruit loops.

I would like to have T'eo or Minter in the 1st round. I'd definitely go after an OT in the 2nd. After that, let Ozzie work his magic.

I would be ecstatic if we signed Dansby.

Short-term fix if the price is right. If not, then we'll be drafting ILB in the first round.

I thought he should have been a target as soon as he was cut. I think he certainly fills a need for us, and I think he would be extra motivated because he would essentially be replacing the player who replaced him. He would love to make the Dolphins look like dopes for choosing Ellerbe over him. However, it doesn't appear that we have to rush into anything here. Patience has done wonders for us this offseason, and in previous offseasons. He will most likely be available after the draft. That's when we will have a much better idea of our needs, and he might even be cheaper after seeing months go by without an offer. I do want him, and as soon as I hear anything about us having interest in him, I will believe that we will get him. We're good like that.

I'd pass on Dansby. I feel we'll get an ILB in the first 3 rounds. If not, I'd just as soon see Bynes or Mclellan suit up next to Jameel.

I think, if we were to sign him, it would be after the draft. Perhaps one of Ozzie's "right before camp" signings.

I think we signed all the players we need for our defense. ILB is still a need, but I think Ozzie will play it out in the draft.

ILBs for the draft:
Arthur Brown
Alec Olgetree
Kevin Minter
Manti Te'o
Kevin Reddick
Josh Bostic
Kiki Alonso
A.J. Klein
Gerald Hodges
Michael Mauti

If all those options are gone by the time we pick, then I hope Karlos Dansby is still available after the draft to sign a two year stop gap contract until we find a viable replacement. We have no idea how talented or developed our UDFA LBs. Also, Jameel McClain has another down year, he might be a candidate for release. The only reason he's still with the team even though he has a bad injury is the lack of depth or talent in the ILB after we lost Ray Lewis and Dannelle Ellerbe. McClain was good when we had him in his rookie contract, but his performance has failed to live up to his new contract. We need a to find a nice starting ILB, especially one that can cover the pass.

Hope Arthur Brown falls to us, so we can pick him at 32 and never look back. However, we might even consider trading up to get him if he falls far enough.

I'm not big on the other LBs, but if they are available in the 2nd round, I hope we find a good 3-down LB.

Mid Round talents could be Josh Bostic, who is a bowling bowl with underrated coverage skills. or a another speedy LB like Kevin Reddick or Kiki Alonso

I hope we keep an eye on A.J. Klein who could be an under-the-radar pick due to his lack of man coverage skills. However, if he's paired with one of the top LBs, he could be that jack ILB that does all the dirty work.
