[News] Ravens Reach Deal With Elvis Dumervil

512 posts in this topic

Our front 7 is now has 700 ways of rushing the passer, and when you have a front like that, it can make up for the backend.

I too want a safety, and we could still get Michael Huff. Or draft one since there are so many good ones this year. But regardless, this kind of move puts life in a struggling D.

I know it sounds funny to those on the outside, but I think our defense is better right now than it was before we lost all the players. Unfortunately, I am not feeling the same way on offense right now, but there is plenty of time for that feeling to change before the season starts.

Elvis Dumervil and T-Sizzle along with Ngata, Spears, Canty, McPhee and Art Jones make for a dazzling front 7 alongwith McClain, and Bynes! I am thrilled for our defense! All we need now is Webby back at full strength and a healthy Jimmy Smith at corners! I am comfortable with Ihedigbo, Christian Thompson and Omar Brown at safety!

My guess is that we won't end up w/12 picks. They will be packaged together when Oz starts trading spots and wheeling and dealing. I don't think we'll just sit on our hands like we did last year.

This allows us to open up the draft for MLB, WR, and Safety...DT will be for even more depth.

Also, there's a chance we restructure and move some money around...the MLB market is very slow to develop and there will be some exceptional guys who want less money.

Either way, pick a side and be happy that we aren't cutting another player. Welcome to Bmore, Elvis!!

The Beak: it posted before i was finished, i know it makes NO SENSE. I very slllooowwwww! point was, where are the linebackers? And i'm through for now, see you later. I don't like this team's moves-BOLDIN, BOLDIN, BOLDIN, i think you'll agree next year after Joe has NOBODY to get open. Got to leave, this is what happens when your typing stinks!
[/quote] Well, you nervous and negative "fan" (so-called) please pay attention because I am going to use small words. FIrst, those national "experts" you seem to love (the same ones who had the Ravens missing the playoffs) agreed that the Ravens needed to fill the following holes: OLB to play the run and the pass (DONE), depth on the D Line (DONE), ILB, OLB, FS, SS. There now are two fewer holes in the defensive squad. Every little bit helps. Second, Boldin almost never got open. His strength was the ability to take the ball away from CBs. Doss, Streeter, Thompson and Pitta, might have to form a committee to replace Boldin, but I believe that each of them are better at getting open. It remains to be seen how they catch the ball in traffic.

So I guess we're going to play a 7-1 defense? 7 lineman and 1 linebacker? Come on Ozzie; sign positions that we actually need.

Although I decided to stay away from reading and writing comments until the draft, I guess this is the time to make exceptions. This Dumervil deal brought four thoughts to my mind:

1.) Awsome acquisition. Never really trusted our cap situation to allow for such a huge splash and so early (in Ravens terms, anyway) in free agency. Even today I thought he'd end up back in Denver. Gladly stand corrected.

2.) Let's hope the money can be made available by restructuring a deal (or two), and we won't have to cut anyone. Making that kind of cap space without cutting and restructuring, with the cap situation we're in seems imposible. (But, of course, given how much time the FO was given to make the deal and think about everything, I'm sure they'll make the best decision - whatever it will be)

3.) The Ravens stay true to our tradition to take a gem from the team we've beaten in the divisional round. Last season it was Jacoby Jones from Houston, this season it's Dumervil.

4.) Dumervil has the chance to make the name Elvis liked in Baltimore again. The last time this name popped up in Charm City... well...

Now back to the exile for another month.

IN NY Victor Cruz can be had for a 1st round pick tender RIGHT NOW! The Ravens, nor is anybody else, going to get A BETTER receiver for 2.9 million this year and the Giants are offering 7 million, THAT'S IT, to Cruz to resign him. IF I were Ozzie, i would have taken Cruz for Joe because there are already 6 d-lineman, i know they want to play him at lb which should be a disaster because he can't cover and rarely did in Denver, and the Ravens have that list of 4th and 5th receivers that the fans, and Mink, want to turn into the NEXT BOLDIN. He's there in Victor Cruz because you're not going to find a Cruz in the draft. Austin will be LONG GONE by 32. Someone BOLDLY ask Ozzie, "who's Joe going to rely on when he audibles to throw on 3rd and short like in the Super bowl?"
