obviously if austin is there at 32, we sprint to the podium....i dont see that happening however. i say...take the best defensve player available at 32, manti teo' if he's there in the second round. look what happend 2 years ago, there were several mocks saying we pick torrey with our first pick, we waited took jimmy and stole torrey in the 2nd. ozzie knows what he's doing, im sorry for ever doubting him.

i'd like to see us grab this guy chris harper from kansas state. dudes 6'1, 230, runs a 4.5 and is a strong guy. reminds me of anquan. should be able to get him at the end of the 4th. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=82917&draftyear=2013&genpos=WR

Big credit to Ozzie and co getting this one done!

Many articles stating how even though we have lost alot of last years starters on D that with our additions in free agency and our track record in the draft the unit could actually be better than last year...i agree.

Kruger - solid second half of the season but was that due to teams adjusting to the return of Suggs, he's a good pass rusher but we've just upgraded and with Dumervil and paid less.
Ellerbe - solid player but i don't think he's quick enough sideline to sideline, more of a react player means hes always chasing. not worth what dolphins are paying in my opinion.
Reed - big player still for me, we will miss him for sure, the fact that qb's rarely throw in his general vacinity will be a loss as teams will attack us vertically much more now. we have to draft a safety.

Hopefully though, with our additions so far we should have much more rush ability and be better against the run. Cody and Kemoeatu just didn't cut it at all last year really poor both of them. For how great Ngata is he needs help still, can't make every single play!

Im sure we will draft some great players for our defense

I like the signing. And folks were worried about what Ozzie was doing to the team. I've always said "In Ozzie I trust". He is a smart man and he knows what he is doing. Now we can focus on getting a LB and S. With about $5 million in cap space they could still extend a decent offer to Michael Huff and then look to the draft for a LB and another S. I think the Ravens will be alright.

Wow replace Paul Kruger with Elvis Dumervil a three time pro bowler, only the great Ozzie can do that, I just don't hope Paul Kruger is gonna be mad when he turns his tv on in January and see Dumervil and Ravens in the playoff :)

[/quote] Not sure we can say that. It's just a simple matter: these players thought they were worth more than the Ravens FO did given their experience, the salary cap, alternatives for getting their production replaced, etc. It looks like Kruger's production has been replaced!

5 yr 41 mil vs 5 yr 35 mil and w/ some restructuring and incentives and a lil mojo Kruger was never in the picture. Some analysts have been saying since PK left his sack production was only on acc't of Suggs return and he wasn't good in pass protection. Be that as it may Doomer will be fine.

We were "weak" because Haloti Ngata, Terrell Suggs, Ray Lewis, Pollard, Webb, McPhee, etc. were injured throughout the season. If none of those injuries had happened? We most likely would have had a great D. You can argue that Dumervil is an upgrade over Kruger (who I still think is going to have a dominant career), but we are now left with major holes at ILB and in the secondary. Jimmy Smith is a joke, and so is Terrence Cody. They draft Upshaw, and now bring in Dumervil, so what's the purpose of Upshaw then? They bring in veteran castoffs from the Giants and Cowboys. Great. Either temporary fixes or total busts, because both men are 30+. There is no guarantee that Webb will ever return to 2011 form, I hope he does, but considering this is his second knee surgery, and he's had tears in both knees now, just remember what happened to Foxworth, who was never able to come back. Or McAlister, who once he started having knee problems was never the same.

I'm just saying, signing Dumveril doesn't make up for what Reed, Pollard, Ellerbe, Kruger, Boldin, and Williams combined brought to the table. Boldin especially had more to do with our post-season success than any other player, and yes that includes Joe Flacco. Flacco would not have had the off-season, contract insuring performance he did without two people, Anquan Boldin, and Bryant McKinnie. As of right now, we don't have either player anymore, and no one competent to truly replace them right away. So having Dumervil (at a price ultimately bigger than what Kruger was asking for if he reaches all his incentives) is nice and all. But no, it does not make up for the losses, and it doesn't make Ozzie suddenly a "genius" again.

We were weak against the run because the middle of our line was weak. Ellerbe's success had a lot to do with the fact that he was making tackles after runners picked up 3-4 yards. Pollard also looked better because runners were getting through our line. Kruger is a pass rusher not a full time player. We lost two legends on defense, but we didn't lose an on the field star.

Jacoby Jones had at least as much to do with those playoff wins as Anquan, and for the record, Joe Flacco threw all of those passes--Jones, Boldin, Smith, Rice, Pitta, and Dickson each only caught a few. There is no question that we would have preferred to keep Anquan on the team, but his paycheck didn't match his production. If your paying a reciever 1/20th of your total team salary he should at least get a thousand yards and double digit touchdowns. Pitta fits a similar profile for a whole lot less money.

This all comes down to numbers. Ozzie will juggle a new crop of rookies, our core stars, and a hand full of stopgap players. This is necessary. He will plug our stars into key positions, and make the most out of the money he has remaining. You can't pay for stars at every position. We have earned our reputation on players like Spears and Canty as much as we have earned our reputation on guys like Kruger and Ellerbe. Spears and Canty will fill voids in our defense and move on or retire after a few years. Kruger and Ellerbe will have limited success with their new teams. Ozzie will pay less for better players, get a few years out of them and replace them with guys in similar stages in there career. You just need a couple guys like that on your team in the NFL.

Check it out: There will be a very forimidable d-line rotation this year.
Ngata, McPhee, Jones, Spears, Canty, Cody, etc. Then you have Suggs, Dumervil, Upshaw manning the outsides. McClain will be coming back and he is a proven, consistent player.
I’d really like the Ravens to scoop up a guy like Dansby.
Then there is still the draft. BPA

If we can just land the 2 ILB and the 2 safeties that Oz wants, we'll be set on defense. Add in 2 o-linemen and 2 pass catchers for Joe...that should be enough to thrash the Bengals and the Browns. lol

In Ozzie we Trust. To get him for less then the Brown got Kruger. This is why the Ravens have success and the Browns do not. They over paid for less of a player.
