Maybe the one where we drafted Boller. No?

That draft also had Suggs, Jarret Johnson. So it was still very positive.

It's funny how fast posts are made about worst offseason ever or what is Ozzie doing posts.

Boldin was traded for a 6th rounder, but the alternative was releasing him and getting nothing at all.
( keep in mind all year everyone knew and debated if Boldin would/should be cut due to his salary for the next season... That debate never ended until Boldins playoff run, basically . The team never offered a contract extension to lower this years base salary and spread out the remaining money on his contract. )

Ray retired

Ed Reed finally got a Superbowl ring and wanted one last pay day that the Ravens chose not to match ( only thing surprising about that is amount of money he was given and that fact that since about mid-season Patriots were rumored front runners )

Pollard - love his hard hits, but with no Ed Reed protecting the back end the pollard is even more of a liability in coverage.

Ellerbe - thought he would re-sign for about $25M instead he was paid $35M by dolphins

Kruger - truly overpaid by browns lol

Cary - who cares really

Additions: Dumervil, Spears, Canty, Huff defensive line depth, pass rushing, safety help.
If we can get a serviceable LT this offseason so that Oher stays at RT then this offseason is solid.

Excellent post! I get a bit upset when I hear people especially our fans say "worst offseason ever" I know change is hard in everything in life, I understand that, but to continue to say worst offseason when we have made the moves we have made lately, it's shocking. We improved our D line dramatically, while saving tons of $ (Kruger) and We have an incredible amount of draft picks which you know Ozzie and company are top 3 FO on draft day. I'm pumped!!!!

Agree with everything but Boldin. There was one other alternative. Keep him. Otherwise it was a tough off-season just because it is hard to lose players that we like, as fans, good decision or bad, understandable or not. But considering it is an off-season that we sit as the reigning champs, that by itself makes it definitely NOT the worst.

"I like our guys" Buck

Some changes had to be made and they were made. As much as I love my favorite players, I love my favorite team more!

I considered editing my original about Boldin. I will now lol.
But I view it as only 2 options because all season long everyone knew Boldins contract would be an issue the next season thus the constant debates about should Boldin be cut ( it wasn't until his monster playoff run that chatter finally ended ) while I constantly defended keeping him for at least one year. The team basically said take a pay cut or leave, I wrote several times I thought they should have gave Boldin a 2 year extension to lower his base salary for this year and spreading the money out ( but that was never actually an option the team gave him so ) it was either cut him, or trade him since the team deemed keeping wasn't a feasible option without a pay cut.

Boldin was great, but the FO decided he wasn't worth the price (he was going to cost more than Flacco) or young enough for an extension. We probably won't have to play him again unless we play the 9ers in the Super Bowl in the next season or two.

Honestly, I'd take Dumervil for five years over Boldin for two. I think one of our young WRs will step up.

We play San Francisco (and the rest of the NFC West) in interconference games next year.

It's the NFC North this season, NFC South the next, then the West. One season's a long time in football, two even more so.

I am pretty sure most people are missing the point of the OP which was that from an emotional standpoint this was the worst offseason ever based on the fact that the greatest player in Raven's history retired, our fan favorite and future HOF Safety left, our other fan favorite safety was cut, and yet another fan favorite player was traded. Losing all those players that fans had an attachment to made this the worst offseason ever from a purely emotional perspective. I believe that's the point that the OP was getting at.

I believe you are incorrect. (By next year I mean 2014).

How does that work then? I could have sworn the inter-conference system cycled?

By that logic it would be West-East-North-West over four years. Weird.

Perhaps someone put it incorrectly into the almighty Wikipedia.

Alas. I hope we don't play Boldin ever :P

08' East-09' North-10' South-11' West -12' East -13' North

It does cycle.

Shouldn't South be the next link on the chain though? That's what I've been saying, but apparently it's the West.

I did a bit of reading and it was to make it so every team hosted and visited every other team at least once every eight years, so could that mean the eight years are reset or something?

I was pretty choked when Boldin was traded... but when it comes down to it, most of these guys left. There was obviously a plan... that didn't have the few extra million these guys were looking for. If we had the money, we would have offered it. We didn't... no hard feelings. The focus has to be on the defense... and I think we're right on track. If it came down to Boldin or Dumervil... pretty easy decision. We're taking the North, fighting for the AFC... and who knows from there. Best team ever!!!
