Im Liking This Draft Scenario

18 posts in this topic

first of all, i wanna say i got this idea from another thread.
OK, the Detroit Lions are now winless for the regular season, and continue to go that path. Likely, they'll earn the #1 spot in the NFL Draft (oh yeah, they earned it lol ). So, I was thinking, they need a running back. Right? heck, theyre desparate for anything as of now. Suffering the 29th ranked run offense (as of now), they are in desparate need of an improvement there.
Lately, seems as if McGahee has been proving that he's just not healthy enough to play this season. Mostly, it's because of his lack of conditioning in the offseason. so, why don't we trade McGahee to the lions? we trade mcgahee, the ravens' 2009 first round pick and possibly one of our 3rd/4th round picks to go up and get to that possible #1 spot. Then, we trade down depending on our needs and how early a player of our need would get selected (for more draft picks, of course.) this would lead us to further success. thoughts?

It's a...unique idea, but I'm pretty sure the lions are gonna draft Matt Standford. Plus wont we have to eat McGahee's cap for 2009 if we trade him? The Lions already have Kevin Smith and Rudi Johnson. They might go a different route and invest in Defense but they really need a QB. How about McGahee to the Bengals for Chad Johnson?? You know what I'm gonna start a thread about it.

Nobody is going to trade for McGahee and his contract. Especially since a rookie HB and FB are outperforming him. If we don't want him, what makes us think another team will?

that trade would work..............if Matt Millen was still GM!! remember they had a bunch of draft picks from the Roy Williams trade so they don't really need our first round pick when they already have the Cowboys. And they don't need a RB anyways because they have Kevin Smith whose been one of their few bright spots on the team duo'ing it up with Rudi Johnson. What they really need is a franchise tackle, and thats why I believe they should take Michael Oher whos is the total package.

But they might revert to their old ways and pickup Michael Crabtree, and use him as an excuse to replace Roy Williams! shoot!!

yeah, true that. but still, he could be worth sentimental trade value imo. I mean he's still in his 20's, he's a young back, and he has experience and a whole lot of potential. i think a team like the lions might need any source of spark, whether it be runningback, wide receiver (no more williams lol) or defense, we can take advantage of their early draft picks one way or another. :)

For 2 3rds and a 5th, not a 1st overall pick lol

Very true, even if healthy he wouldnt demand a 1st overall pick to be honest

if you read my first post, i said we trade our 1st overall and mcgahee as an addition, possibly another round draft pick to add to that, to get up in the draft.

sorry cat. not gonna happen.

1. we're not trading mcgahee. it will cost TOO much.

2. we're not trading up to the #1 pick. the pick requires too much money (salary) and it takes TOO much to trade up that far.

3. detroit doesn't need a running back. they just spent a first day pick on kevin smith. he's not that bad, actually. their o-line is horrible....as is their d-line.

4. detroit has OODLES of draft picks. remember, they traded shaun rodgers to cleveland before trading roy williams

Thank You! McGahee has no trade value at all. We gave up two 3rd rounders and a 6th round for him. RB is proving to be an easy position to fill through the draft. Do you all seriously think someone will give us more then what we gave up to get him?

I think plenty of teams would love to have McGahee; I'm just not sure we would get more than maybe a 3rd rounder for him.

sorry, didn't this post, I guess you're saying pretty much what I just did.
But, a third rounder can get us a darn good player.

mcgahee wouldn't even get us a third rounder.

2 years ago, we gave up 2 3rd round picks and a 7th for him. now, he's 2 years older and had a host of injuries during that time period. not to mention, it's not like he's rushing for 1000 yards this year, too.

mcgahee would garnish probably a 4th rounder.....maybe a couple of 4ths if we're lucky. but regardless.....the prospects of trading him are slim to none. it will cost over 8 million against our cap to get rid of him. i just don't see the FO doing that this off season. now, NEXT offseason......that's a possibility, but he'll garnish even less trade value

Unless he re-dedicates himself in the offseason and has a bounceback year. Then we will keep him though because why trade a guy who is performing, either way we wont get much if we ever do trade him.
