Looks like things are starting to move again (or rather, we're starting to see things move again out here). Saw this tweet from Bryant McKinnie earlier:

Just got off the phone with Coach Harbs

Torrey Smith of course being the team guy he is:

I think we should resign him but make it conditional that if he shows up to training camp out of shape..he is gone without the money.

Uh, Rotoworld said he has drawn zero interest.

So how can beggars be choosers? Taking a hometown discount from zero is zero.

I'm really concerned about re-signing him. Won't lie. He's a big risk, haha.

IC What u did there :P

Use him as a stop gap, and draft a developmental LT

Nobody else is interested and he clearly needs money. I don't think he would be a very expensive acquisition, if the Ravens sign him and he would serve as a very good backup for a rookie LT, who might be too inexperienced to line up for all the snaps in next season, which would give Ozzie the luxury of allowing him to draft a project tackle, rather than someone more proven. Works for me.

Guy is a Turd, will probably come in unmotivated and out of shape again. If possible I would rather see a rookie or 1-2 year player in his place.

I'm not concerned. We are going to draft a left tackle this year either way. If we sign him, we don't have to worry about trading up or reaching for one. We can draft when we feel the value is right in the first few rounds, and we don't have to worry about starting the guy right away if we have McKinnie.

a better turd than anyone else we have on the roster or in our reach through FA or draft. Sometimes a turd sandwich is better than what you could end up with.

Better to have a turd than be constipated, huh?

I'm surprised he's still talking to Harbaugh. I heard he was offered the part of Jabba the Hutt in the new Star Wars movie.

Yeah; in a way, everything has to suck, right now, for Bryant McKinnie. The guy was given an opportunity of a life-time, getting his starting spot back in Baltimore's offensive line (in the playoffs, no less) after being benched for lacking motivation (back during training camp). And, while McKinnie played to his highest potential during this Super Bowl run, ultimately... it was mostly because Bryant McKinnie was at full stamina for just four games.

That, right there, is the biggest problem going against him. Almost all general managers and head coaches fell that, if Bryant McKinnie was penciled-in as the starting left tackle on opening day, he would burnout by Week 6. Hard work pays off, but when you have burnt too many bridges and are known to be very lazy, it is hard to comeback; it is even harder when you are on the back-end of your career.

McKinnie could still provide depth for the Ravens in 2013, if the price is right, but the eventual replacement (from the draft) has to be ready to play, this year, just in case McKinnie acts like the Bryant McKinnie of old...

I actually hope he comes back - it means we can hold off on drafting someone too early and draft a guy who's ready to take over next year, like we did with Matt and Gino this year.

This is what worries me. It wasn't just back during training camp. If you listen to what McKinnie says when he talks about how he got back into playing with the starters, the biggest reason he was out is he played unmotivated in practice all the way through 'til almost the end. Everybody keeps talking about "Harbaugh's Doghouse", but McKinnie clearly said he wasn't trying hard in practice. When he finally manned up, said he wanted to play Johnbaugh told him to "the practice hard". Once he did and showed him, he put him in.

So, what happens if you give this guy a nice multi-year contract with a bonus?

I like your thinking here. Not sure if Starks is much better than McKinnie, but I suspect he will be cheaper.
