Brian Urlacher anyone?

Thoughts on bringing him to Baltimore on a cheap short term deal? 2M/3M a season imo wouldn't be bad because of the leadership ability he brings along with depth. We are going to be drafting a mlb and I think urlacher would make for a pretty good role model. What do you all think? I don't watch the bears much so don't know how much urlachers play has dropped off, just think we are really lacking depth at mlb.

Doubt he accepts for an extra million. On top of that he is old, and doubtful he would fit our 3-4 scheme. The injuries dont help his case either. Imo he takes the deal from the Bears if the Vikings dont offer him any better. If the bears dont want him back, he may hang up his cleats.

Lleh on. Or would it be on lleh... Whatever, NO. This is the best time to add some youth and most importantly SPEED.

No thanks, we need to get younger at ILB. Plus he has been in a 4-3 his whole career so now isn't the time to be changing schemes for him. Plus his play has declined over the last few years.

For my money, no. Even at $2million I think he'd be too much for the chance you would be taking. He'll be 35 when the season starts, he's having more and more health issues (hammy, knee, back, etc.), he's lost more than a step or two and his numbers are really showing that decline. He might be motivated since the Bears "slapped him in the face" (as he puts it), but how far does that motivation take a 35 year old body that has had that much abuse?

Might not be a bad idea for 1 or 2 years till the younger guys get up to speed and can learn from a pro bowl veteran.

Don't want, Ray was really struggling at times this year and at several years under Rays age Urlacher is not any better if not worse.

Urlacher imo has been one of the most over rated ILBs of the last decade or so. He plays in a 43 defense, is 260 pounds, was insanely athletic, and he was brutal against the run far too often for a guy touted as a HOFer.

Funny how some of you are like " we need to get younger" but everytime I turn around you're trying to get an old player....

If Urlacher were 3 years younger and still had some of his athleticism then signing him would make some sense, but at this point with his lateral movement having declined much more rapidly than Ray Lewis' did, combined with a season full of injuries last season, the fact that he played his entire career in a 4-3 base system and a decade specifically in a heavy Cover 2 system, he doesn't have the versatility needed at this point to play on this defense.

If the Ravens were to pick up an older LB for one year, it should be Takeo Spikes, he hasn't been injured like Urlacher and has played in multiple systems.

He says he was insulted by 2 million a year, we need Huff, McKinnie, and a pass rusher like Dumervil more. I agree his leadership is valuable but we have zero cap room.

Nope, doesn't fit what we do on defense. His strength was the deep middle in the Tampa 2, we don't do any of that... And he's way too old.

We're trying to build a Superbowl champion, not a retirement home for big-name players, particularly at his position. We don't need a dominant inside linebacker in today's game.

Urlacher was terrible last season and his overrated for many seasons now.

When Ray was 34 he was a 1st Team All Pro. Urlacher at the same age was the 2nd worst ILB/MLB in the entire NFL vs the run. PFF had him at -13.6. He also has missed a ton of tackles last year (I think the number was 15 but don't quote me on it).

Urlacher is terrible at taking on blocks and doesn't provide anything as a pass rusher as he hardly ever applies pressure on the QB. The only thing he is useful for is some zone coverage at this point.

His leadership qualities are overrated as well. His defenses have only been elite in 5 of the 13 seasons he was the leader of the Bears and most Bears players would argue that other players (Mike Brown, Briggs, Peppers, Tillman) have been the real leaders on the defense.

Even when he was allegedly elite he would get embarrassed by numerous players. James Stewart, Jerome Bettis, Brandon Jacobs, juked by Brady & Rodgers, Ryan Torain, Addai and Rhodes in the Super Bowl, etc on a consistent basis.

Anyone trying to put him in the same sentence as Ray is delusional.

He isn't worth it.
