What was your favorite Ed Reed play?

41 posts in this topic

Yes. I suppose one should not ask questions w/o a definitive opinion. I'd have to say against the Jets in 2004 on his way to DPOY. Took a ball 106 yards (first time he sets NFL record for an interception return) against the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets. You talk about a momentum KILLER. Also loved when he ran one back that year on Sunday Night Football against the Browns with Joe Theisman and Mike Patrick calling the game (can't remember who their 3rd partner was). Basically every play he made that year...

His Super Bowl INT as I was able to do Reed chant for the first time ever and it was during his last and most important game as a Raven.

The best memorable play(s) were from playoff game vs. Colts.

@ 3rd down he picked off Peyton Manning. Then few seconds later Reed picks off Peyton Manning again. He was fighting manning @ his highest prime, and he was picking him off like feathers.

not sure what year but he stripped the ball from Mark Sanchez at M&T and it looked like the whole defense carried the ball in for the touchdown.

I think the year was 2008 (maybe 2007), we were playing the Bungles. Carson Palmer went to throw it to Chad (not sure), and Ed Reed came at that ball like a bat out of hell. It was so fast the camera man had to double take because he had thought Chad caught it. Reed ran it back for the TD and ran into the tunnel afterwards.

You know what...that was one of the several things that had to happen to make the Super Bowl great for Ravens fans. Wouldn't have felt as good if he didn't make a play

2011. Ravens were wearing all black in that game I think. Bunch of points scored on Defense and special teams for both sides.

I've been looking for a picture of the pose he does at the end of it. Bummed because I can't find one.

Sack fumble on Sanchez couple seasons ago. The Jets fans said the Ravens were old and used up with a terrible QB... no chance the Ravens were going to beat them. I think it was one of the first plays of the game Ed Reed off the edge fumbles the football and the Ravens score a defense style TD.

*Plus it showed Ed Reed could play inside the box just like Troy Polamalu, all the Steelers fans thinks Ed Reed is only good in the secondary.

I remember back in Flaccos rookie year we faced the Dolphins in the Wild Card round and Ed Reed had 2 ints one returned for a TD. The one int was pretty much a punt but the 2nd int was the play I'll always remember him for!! He completely toyed with Pennington and jumped the route and picked it off before anyone even knew what happened!

Huge INT TD return against the Eagles a few years ago. It was my first game ever. I pulled my phone out the play right before it happened and startes recording. He picked it off and then took it to the house, the loudest I've ever heard the bank probably.

I remember that one and is one of my favorite memories. Only problem was you couldn't even see who it was until he was stepping into the endzone. Literally a black blur just freaking flew bye. You could practice that play with a safety 100 times and you could not do it as well as Ed read that play. Absolutely incredible!

I loved how he constantly left Cary Williams out on an island with no help over the top while he freelanced at the line of scrimmage.

Never went to training camp.

One handed tackles that broke away and went for big yards.

It was nice having the occasional pics but I would rather have kept a hard hitting Pollard.

OK I'm done venting!

My favorite play was in the playoffs against Pennington in Miami. He read the play and ran all the way across the field and intercepted a pass out of nowhere. It shows how much film he studies and how intelligent he is. Pennington had no chance to see him coming because that was not part of his read on the play. After the pick, you see Pennington talking to Ed like, "What were you doing running all the way over there. You've gotta be kidding me." I think that play was in the red zone, or just outside it, as well.

His punt return TD on MNF against Cincy in '07 (3:55 of this video). Even though that game was ultimately a stinging loss, I'll never forget it. It was the first time I'd seen him return a punt and I still remember jumping around my room when he made the cut into daylight. Awesome play.

Two plays that nobody mentioned:

1. MNF vs Denver in 2002 (the Cmac FG return w/ Ray's crushing block game)

I have this game recorded on VHS and it featured Ed's 1st career INT and 1st career blocked Kick. That glimpse of what was to come the next decade, along with Ray's 18 tackle/INT/crushing block performance & Heap's play & CMac's return, make this a favorite of mine.

This was also Shannon's return to Baltimore.

2. MNF vs Redskins 2008

When Ed strips Portis and picks it up for a fumble return TD.

ED Reed picking Peyton off twice in the same drive will always be king to me. But this is a runner-up.

The hit he put on the Colts receiver(Reggie Wayne? Not sure) years ago and of course the pick six against the Eagles and also his pick six against the Browns when he did the wing motion.
