They are all mercenaries. Hopefully it will free up some money for Dumervil.

You can't possibly be hating on him after Pollard got cut and Boldin traded?? I guarantee you both of those guys knew they would be in Purple and Black next season. Guys gotta do what's best for themselves

Besides, like BMoreRavens20144 said, this is the best thing for the team. After 2, or maybe even 3 off-seasons of I might retire, and after watching numerous missed tackles, what is your honest assessment of the situation. Keep him just so we can all feel good about ourselves? I think you already agree...at least half of you does because you acknowledge this will free up some money for Dumervil...who is younger and still playing at a high level, who's team really wanted him to stay and he's only on the market after a silly error

If nothing else, he goes into the Hall of Fame as a Baltimore Raven...

I believe this will be Ed's last season. The Texans will become a major contender when they find a QB that knows how to win when the stakes are high. Schaub is not the answer. Ed will quietly fade into the Texas sunset.

Strange Reed with us for 11 years and Boldin with us for 3. When news broke Bolins sight went threw the roof, surprising not so much on Reed, HUMMMMMMMMM!!

Actually Ed did us a favor. I don't think he can ball so hard anymore. He just didn't want to take his old team for a ride. He freed up enough cap room so the Ravens can be competitive again. How considerate. Thanks Ed.

Thank you Ed Reed you were truly my favorite Raven. Every time the Ravens needed a big defensive play you were there to win the game or at the very least seal the deal. I wish you well in Houston. Good luck and thank you again for so many good memories. I hope you see this. I am not happy so many other fans are so upset. Fans need to understand you have reasons for leaving I am sure it was not easy to do. I will still be rooting you on in Houston hope you retain #20

I'm just in total shock...As a fan It feels like I have been slapped in the face. You think with all the money these guys make they would budget it to last a lifetime and in case this happens this wont affect them if they take a pay cut. Where's the loyalty or is it about the all mighty dollar. Then on the other hand we cant have these guys forever and change is always good and anything can happen in football. I guess you can say I'm confused

You've got to be kidding me. Can we save the lamentations and rending of robes please? All Reed has said is "It's close." This is all based on one tweet that hasn't been substantiated by anyone.

This is why I hate the free agency part of the season. This post is all icing and no cake, and everyone is acting like the voice of God just spoke to them.

I'm not saying Reed is coming back, and I'm not saying that bringing him back is the right choice. I'm just saying that premature posts like this are absolutely silly and a waste of time.

That's a great point. After all this is the same guy that said '...weeeell I wouldn't be so sure that this is Ray's last game....'

The picture of this article really got me sad, it really just captures who Reed is as a person a chilled lay back dude. Wish you the best of luck man! In no way shape or form should any of us think about Reed in a different light now that he is gone he is and always will be a Raven.

I'm shocked! :-)
It's a good move on the Ravens part.
I would have thought we would have matched 1 mil though if the stories are true on what he got with the Texans.

If nothing else, at least we won't be guessing if Reed's retiring or not any more.
As many of you know, I'll move on much quicker with this loss than any of the others. :-)
Good luck Ed. I don't see it going well for you in Texas but what do I know.
Maybe a new town will bring out a new Ed.
All the best to you for all the years you were here, giving it your all!

Your Jersey is going on the wall in my man cave. You've definitely earned a spot!

Good for you, Ed Reed. More money and closer to your home state. I am not mad at ya. It was a privilege to watch you play Thanks for the memories. You will always be a Raven regardless of where you go. Thanks again.

The right thing to say, everyone should thank the man, he gave everything he had every week. That's what makes a special player. Good Job Ed you are the MAN

Have fun with the Texans Ed, you will be disappointed when you realize their fans are not like ours, so when you come to M&T this year and we welcome you with the Reed chant it will be the loudest you'll hear all year.

THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!

Schaub is AW-FULL!!!!!! And Andre is getting past his prime. The Michigan State kid they drafted at Wide Receiver 2 yrs ago is not the answer.

i know i shouldnt but i do, i feel disrespected as a ravens fan. dont get me wrong i love ed reed, mos def my 2nd favorite player after lewis but i just feel disrespected a a ravens fan from the fact that he kept talking about retirement all these years when we couldnt get the trophy but now that we won the superbowl he starts saying he can play more years and just leaves to another team.....i hope the texans offer was muuuch better cause if it was just a couple of dollars then thats a "no love shown" move

This is the FO's season, and they're playing it with consistency to their mantra : Right player at the right price.

Bye dont let the door hit you on the [butt] on the way out. Backstabber. 1 million more per year... really?

Youll get your dose of reality when you miss tackle after tackle in Houston and they will boo you because they expected to get a hall of fame caliber safety, when Baltimore fans would never boo you because we know you basically gave your body for this franchise.
You say he is a backstabber and he isn't loyal? Where is the Ravens loyalty to him. Everyone talks about how the players should be loyal and show respect to the fans and team by taking less money. It's their body on the line and their skill producing. How do teams show loyalty and respect to players? By paying them. Them not matching the Texans deal is showing Reed disrespect

Suggs just tweeted a picture of "him" and "NGATA" walking through the locker room shoulder-to-shoulder , talking about the 'bond between brothers'. You think the veterans we have left (Sizzle, Ngata, McClain, Webbie, Cody, etc. etc. etc.) are not already sick of hearing what we "CAN'T" and "WON'T" be able to do b/c of who we've lost?? RAVEN NATION is going to play with 'that chip' again that you were hoping for Biscotti! This is gonna be fun to watch!

"OOOoooohhh -oh -oh -oh - ooooohhhh-ohhhhhh!"

It'll be a different looking team next year, but it's still Ravens football; regardless of whose names are on the backs of the jerseys. We'll be all right. :)

yet another player who will someday sign that ubiquitous "one day" contract to retire as a Raven after playing a few sad and unproductive years at another club. Until then, Reed is just another ex-Raven to me.

I'd like to see Reed (and Heap) sign back with the Ravens at the end of their respective careers for just one day so they can retire as Ravens.

Can't believe it. Reed 'wanted' to leave last year to chase a ring, now Reed got his ring and is chasing even more money.

Ravens are smart not to invest the absurd 7.2 million he wanted. Sad to see him go, especially after Baltimore has been his home for 11 years and one superbowl, and especially for money.

Good decision by both parties. Reed goes to Houston and gets older. Ravens get younger, and hungrier. Reed was becoming too much of a diva anyway. Good luck with Houston Ed, you're gonna need it!!

I don't blame the players. They won the Super Bowl, now they are cashing in. This is probably the biggest dissembling of a team I've seen (high caliber players, at least). To stay positive, we have saved money to hopefully resign McKinney and Pitta, etc. Also, we will compensary draft picks-up to 12 total picks. Ozzy knows how to draft.

quoted for truth . it kills me that once a guy leaves because the ravens don't want them the nonsense starts nasty comments etc.
