I watched this video like a million times through our playoff run knowing that there was a big chance this would be his last run with us. Every time I watch I feel happy and sad all in one.

More of an emotional loss than a football loss at this point. Ed was awesome for MANY years and was a great Raven - but his best days are gone and I wish he could have retired on one team....hate this, but he is replaceable.

There was never a moment when this Super Bowl victory meant so much as when I saw how happy YOU were Ed when you hoisted that Lombardi. . In all your years in Baltimore, I have never seen such pure joy light your face. I am so very happy that moment came for you. I thought you'd come home. Felt almost certain of it. It's a sad day and I will despise seeing you in that Texans garb. Never let the ugly red reach your heart. Keep it forever purple, as we'll always think of you as a Raven.

Stay healthy, Ed. Good luck to you, just not your new team. You understand. Nothing personal, just football.

Thanks for everything, Ed. Hope to see you in purple again soon when you return as a coach.

He was an inspiration to me, along with Ray Lewis. I am sad he will not retire a Raven, but he will always be a Raven.

Loved watching him play every Sunday. He was just head and shoulders above QBs. Truly awesome to watch. Him and Ray gone in the same offseason is a shot to the heart.

I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone happier than Ed holding the Lombardi. Ever.

This sucks.
Perhaps after he's done with the Texans and football the Ravens could sign him for one day like the Colts did for Jeff Saturday. ( Not sure if there is any precedent for this or if the Ravens would be amenable to it) I'll miss him though; best rendition of "Two Tickets to Paradise" this side of Eddie Money! :D

It's a business. The Ravens didn't offer nearly what the Texans offered. Ed thinks he can still play at a high level.

No one working an office job would take a paycut out of loyalty if asked. Why should Ed? You can't fault him, especially if he's left the business side of things entirely to his agent.
exactly! even though i'm pissed about this move....i don't blame Ed Reed either. IF another team places a greater value on your services for them than your present one..it's time to walk! Ed did just that! can't and won't blame him for wanting and getting paid more money! i'll miss you Ed! really brah! you are forever a Raven in my mind!

Thanks for everything Ed. You were my favorite player, along with Ray. You are forever a Raven, even though you will wear a Texan jersey for 2/3 years. You will be missed. And i really hope NO stupid fans boo you when you come back home to play us this year.

Thanks Ed for all you did. I don't blame you for leaving you deserve to find a new team . has nothing to do with loyalty you get paid. nor does it tarnish your legacy . You are still the greatest safety to ever play the game looking forward to your hof induction.

Yep, goodbye Ed Reed. He wears a Texans uniform but he is still a Raven. :P but Ed Reed should have retired as a Raven to complete a perfect Baltimore Raven legacy.

Ya know, I found out from reading a friend's status on FB. And I didn't feel anything...no sadness, no anger.

Good luck, Ed. Ravens Nation will hang out with you in Canton some day.

i know i should be thanking ed for everything and i loved him on our team but its too hard. Its different with Ray because he played with us his entire career and retired. He stayed loyal. I thought maybe ed would want to do the same. I guess im being a little ungrateful but i'm a bit disappointed at the moment.

 At all the people in here spouting off about how, 'there's no such thing as loyalty, 'anymore,' as if the modern sports superstars have ever been about anything more than money. The Cal's, the Ray Lewis' (keep in mind if he had gotten the deal he wanted a few years ago, he probably would have been gone too) have always been rare. The cap prevents these guys from getting their last pay days from their longtime team and that's what sucks and what is great about football. Can't blame Ed for wanting to make the last million bucks he's gonna make EVER right?

Loyalty in pro sports is pretty much a myth. Teams aren't loyal to players and players aren't loyal to teams. And I don't care what a pro athlete says, for 99.9% of them it is ALWAYS about the money. Flacco can talk all he wants about it's a respect thing, but what is it that he considered respect? Wasn't praise or words from the organization, because they had nothing but praise for him whenever they spoke. It was the dollars. Same with Reed and Boldin. When it comes down to it, they go where the dollars are.

I don't mind that .. that's cool .. but don't sit there and basically lie to my face about it. Man up and say, 'I like it here, but if I'm offered more money I'm leaving.' I'd have way more respect for them in that regard.

Finding some of these responses bizarre and frankly, extremely naive.

Why does Ed leaving prove that he doesn’t care about the city or team? Ed Reed has done more for the Baltimore Ravens than almost anyone in history. Nothing has changed, I’m sure he still has the team and the city in his heart.

If we didn’t give Joe Flacco the deal we just did, then he’d have been out the door and got the money somewhere else. Does his staying show that he is more ‘loyal’ than Ed? No, all it shows is that he got the deal he wanted and Ed didn’t.

Ray Lewis stayed a Raven because he didn’t get a better deal elsewhere when he was a free agent a few years ago.

The Ravens have just dumped several players to save money. Where was the team’s ‘loyalty’ to those guys who just helped us become champions? If you’re going to stop liking Reed because of his perceived disloyalty and money-grabbing, then stop supporting the Ravens too for not resigning Boldin, Kruger, Pollard, Williams and Ellerbe due to financial concerns.

Ridiculous.

On behalf of Ravens Nation, I wanted to take this time to thank Ed Reed for all of his contributions to the Baltimore Ravens.

For over a decade, Ed, you've been the definition of a ball-hawk. You've literally sacrificed your body for your teammates and fans, all for the love of a child's game.

Though it's sad that the business side of the sport is the reason why we must part ways, we'll meet again soon when you're ready to return for your retirement press conference and, eventually, your induction into the Ravens Ring of Honor. Shortly thereafter, we'll be there in full-force as you take your place in Canton among the legends that you had idolized as a child.

Ed, you've given us years of joy. Thank you for the division championships. Thank you for our second Super Bowl trophy. Thank you for your leadership. Thank you for your service to the community.

And, above all else, Ed, thank you for being an exceptional human being and one of the many reasons why we love our Baltimore Ravens.
