We'll miss you Ed. Good luck in all your future endeavors. I just hope you come back as a coach for us.

This.

Well, said, OP, well said.

(BTW, this is an appreciation thread. You wanna bash Ed, there's three other threads for that. How many of you, if offered a chance to move out of state for two years for a job at double your salary wouldn't jump at the chance?.... Thought so.)

Favorite player ever. Why's it gotta end like this? This sucks
It ended in the best way possible... with Ed Reed hoisting the Lombardi as a Raven. My greatest fear was that he would not win a ring, and he got one in his last year in Baltimore.

Congratulations ED! I have read the comments from Texans fans and they are very excited about getting you on their team. Our loss... definitely their gain. Best of luck and thank you for being what a Raven should be.

No such thing as loyalty any more. A few million more dollars is all it takes. Sell out. Thanks for the Super Bowl.
That's ridiculous. These guys have a limited amount of time to make money. This is Ed'a last contract, he has every right to cash in.

Anyway, thanks for everything Ed. See you in Canton.

Bums like Eric Berry make 12m/yr. That almost makes Reeds early 7m/yr (and his rumored reduced 4m/yr asking price) seem like nothing. I admit our cap situation doesn't give us a lot of choices, but we should've made more of an effort to make him retire a raven. With the youth on the team now, Reed provided us more than just his skill set, it was his presence, leadership and experience that might've even meant more.

Ed has been my favorite player since his Miami days. I watched every game he played in, but now it seems those days are over. Thanks for all the great memories!!!

I guess it's time to put the old number 20 jersey in a frame.

Not many hall of fame players get to play a whole career in one city like # 52, and it is sad that Ed isn't going too. Really thought that would be the defining reason for his return, but lets not kid ourselves this is a business and from a business standpoint texans offer more $. it makes sense. He epitomizes what it is like to play like a raven. I will forever remember getting to see you hoist that Lombardi after all the pain and punishment you put your body through to get there. You did it as a raven man! Good luck in texas, just not against us, ravens nation still loves ya!

Thanks for so many wonderful memories, Ed. It has been a joy to watch you play in a Ravens uniform. I am so glad that you have earned a Ravens Super Bowl ring. Best of luck to you, and rack up some more pick sixes. You will be missed!!

He's my favorite too and to piggy off BmoreSports09.. after all these years he finally got to play and win the Superbowl in his home state while tying the record for most interceptions in the postseason. The only thing that would top that is if he broke the record. He ended his career in Baltimore on such an amazing note. Him going to another team will never take away from that.

I guess I'm sad/frustrated/disappointed because I've seen so many key, and so many of my favorite players leave this off-season. Deep down, I'll always respect Ed, I'll always love having seen him at a game in real life, love having seen him struggle, love having seen his passion for the game, I could go on forever. On the outside, I feel like he should've done what Elvis Dumervil did, taken a paycut to stay with the team he LOVES. I'll always love Ed Reed, but this one just hurts too much for me right now, I can't say good luck and mean it.

Is anyone going to play out their Hall of Fame careers as Ravens anymore?
Let's hope Flacco can follow Ray's and JO's footsteps.

Best of luck Ed....this is a sad day in Baltimore. This does show more than ever that its not about the love for a city or its people its all about the cash. I guess I understand.

Ok, that's fine. But when it comes down to it, the whole "Do it for the fans and the city" means nothing. It's all about the money.

It's a business. The Ravens didn't offer nearly what the Texans offered. Ed thinks he can still play at a high level.

No one working an office job would take a paycut out of loyalty if asked. Why should Ed? You can't fault him, especially if he's left the business side of things entirely to his agent.
Because you know the full details of how much he is offered. Loyalty is different here. An office job will make you enough to just live comfortably...barely. He has way more than enough and is just stacking it up.

Stop with this bull crap. Do organizations make decisions based off loyalty? No? Then stop expecting it from the players. The most uneducated and hypocritical thing about fan logic.
These guys are getting paid enough. Anybody who is even somewhat smart could get most of what they want with just 5 million dollars. He has been making a ton of money as it is. He is ending up with (not exact numbers) but pretty much 42 million instead of 39. Not much of a difference when you get that high.
I respect the sarcasm but that was just silly... lol anyway at this rate Ray Lewis may be one of the last guys we have play out a hall of fame career here.

I just hope he stays healthy there and gets enough interceptions while not doing too much but still be able to break the all-time interceptions record. He can go to the retirement home that is the Houston Texan's secondary. They have a mean pass rush so hopefully he gets a lot of lofted balls: easy picks.

Ed really put his body out there for our competition, our sport, our team, our city: and for that I am thankful. And for that, he received compensation. Now our compensation has been bested by a team out of Houston. That's fine and commendable and all. I just know it would kill me in a few years if I watched a 60 minutes programme or read an article about Ed Reed not being able to use any of his physical faculties. So I hope he stays healthy sort of just cherry picking QBs out there in Houston and not trying to do too much: as he did for us.

And if he ever wants to win a championship, he can always retire and come sign with us when The Texans release him of his contract or demand a trade because there is no way in hell the Texans will defeat our Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs with Matt Schaub.

So, if you want another ring, Ed just stick around 2 more years or so and we'll have a juggernaut waiting to take you up at reduced price so you can retire a Raven.

Stay healthy, please. And break the interceptions record (11 more to go!)

Everything is relative. When you live in the public eye, you suddenly have to account for higher taxes, heightened security measures, lawyer and agent fees, and a higher cost of living -- including much more expensive health insurance, considering that athletes are virtually uninsurable by nature of the physical risk of their job.

Just because Ed Reed is living comfortably, doesn't mean he doesn't deserve the money. Furthermore, who wouldn't want to provide for future generations of their family so that their kids and grandkids don't have to struggle? That's every parent's dream.

BTW Reed 4m asking price could've been paid with the same salary the 2 old DEs just signed for. We could've just drafted some young DEs for cheap so im pretty convinced the Ravens just didn't want Reed back because he was one of the leaders of the locker room rebellion against harbs.

Alot of my favorite Ss play just as good if not better with age like Darren Sharper. Your instincts and experience matter, not as much as your speed imo. I don't doubt he will do well his next few years.
