Anybody know what we have for space after boldin comes off the books and with our recent deals. Saw a thread earlier but can't find it now. Thanks

Yes. Around $10 million, but we still need to save about $4M for the draft. So really, we have about $6M.

with having 12 draft picks im not sure how much money would be used for them, but i would love to be able to trade down twice or so to make up the difference if that means we can grab dumerville...id be more than ok with that.

And we still have 6 or 7 guys - who probably don't make the team- who are in that $400k/year bracket.

Something I found strangely annoying to me is that we still have Cundiff on our books. He's gonna eat up $1.8mil dead money this coming cap (second highest dead money behind Ray Lewis and $300k above Boldin).

[/quote]Can rookie contracts be structured like free agents with front/back loading and signing bonuses? I know they have a base salary per position, so I would think not.

Since lewis retired he is completely off the books is he not? Or is it the remainder of the signing bonus? Also isn't boldin completely off since he was traded?

No, they have dead money coming from bonuses still on the books. They pay the guys bonuses up front, so they already have the money. It's spread out, usually, over the life of their contract. Even though they are gone, that bonus money is still on the books.

So, for Lewis it's $2,950,000 and for Boldin it's $1,531,250 that goes against our cap this year. (Edit: Birk this year is $1.4mil btw.)

Nope. $10M is including Boldin's savings.

I understand having to carry dead money for a player we cut, but why aren't players who retire or quit required to return the signing bonus for the for the remaining years of the contract?

i would re-do Ngata's, Sizzle's and Leach's contracts so we could get the cap to keep Ed, sign our own Pitta, then get Huff and Dumervil... give our original 7th to Raiders for Rolando... and if there's pennies left put a scare into giants just for fun by bidding on Cruz

Wouldn't touch Suggs' contract. Ngata and Leach would be who I went after. I also do t see the team pursuing both Reed and Huff. Makes no sense and don't have the cash.

Somebody better touch Suggs' contract along with Ngata's. Suggs cap hits in 2013 & 2014 are $13mil & $12.4mil respectively. Ngata's 2013-2015 cap hits are $11.5mil, $16mil & $16mil.

Mess with it now just hits you later. Also don't know how quickly Suggs might decline as well. Let him just play it out. Ngata you can get more years out of cause he can be moved to NT when he's older so I think a Ngata restructure is more likely.

Well if its around 6m, i suppose that's enough to sign back Ed Reed & Big Mac

If Reed doesn't come back I guess sign Big Mac or some able LT and extend Pitta/Jones

It's intentional so that teams can't load up aging vets with long contracts. Otherwise we could give Ed Reed a 5 year contract with a big bonus while knowing he'd retire before the end of it.

I think part of the problem is that their contracts have already been restructured once and now we're "paying the piper". Based on their age, injury history, and current contract structure, neither one is really a good candidate.

Pending the final details on Marcus Spears contract, the Ravens are about $8.5M under the Cap. That includes Boldin being removed from the Cap (which, despite reports to the contrary, he hasn't been on their Cap since 3/12).

You clearly have little understanding of how NFL contracts, bonuses and the cap work

And you sir have no idea how Madden works. Now all we need to do is trade this years first round pick for next years 1st and a 2nd so we can stock up. If the team doesn't do well we'll just pack up and move to New Mexico where they've been begging for a football team.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Suggs and Ngata's contracts have not been restructured yet. We signed Ngata to a 5(?) year deal 2 years ago and Suggs the year before that I think. Its just like with Joe's deal, now is when the back loaded cap is hitting the hardest. If both are in our long term plans it might be wise for the Ravens to restructure both deals to keep them around a few more years, and lowering the cap hits.
