Dallas only has $103,000 on their cap and can't sign anyone. They probably wanted to hear Huff's contract demands and go over what they'll need from him in their defensive scheme. For it to only be an hour lets me believe they both think it won't be a great fit for them at this time. He'll be here pretty soon and I guarrantee that meeting will go longer than an hour.

As per Rotoworld, the Boys are close to a multi year deal with Spencer which would create more cap space.

Oz needs to get Huff here asap. I'm not comfortable at all just having two second year players with no starting experience competing for that FS spot.

And again it would cost us a comp pick. Elvis, Canty, Spears, Huff are all players cut. Now that's patience and mastery. It's what makes Ozzie great

Meh...I'd rather start w/ the players that we got, b/c Huff isn't really a major upgrade to what we alrdy have. To me, Id rather have us spend what we have left on B.Mac @ cheap price.

Eventually you have to see what we got on Thompson/Omar instead of them sitting on the bench while an aging safety does a 'so-so' job on that starting line-up. Also, I want to see Thompson start b/c he was a pretty high pick(4th rounder).
Eventually... but that doesnt mean you make them your only option going into training camp or making them starters game 1 of their 2nd year when their rookie year included the practice squad and/or little-to-no game playing experience.

And by that logic what was all the fuss with trading Boldin? We've got Tandon Doss enter his 3rd year and David Reed entering his 4th who were 4th and 5th round picks respectively who have been sitting behind an aging starter who played 'so-so' besides one playoff stretch and a half of a game here and there.

I know, I know... Anquan Boldin is more than 'so-so' and Huff cant compare to him. Except PFF graded him as the 2nd best safety in the league 2 years ago, and has graded positively in pass coverage the past 3 years while providing sure tackling and good run support. Dude played amazing only allowing 50% completions playing CB against Roddy White and Julio Jones and registered 3 pass break ups and an interception in the game.

The guy can play FS, SS, CB and the slot.... and play them all WELL. The reason Pollard is gone is bc he cant cover, well Huff can. And he can do it as well as a very good cornerback. Just because you havent heard of the dude before this offseason doesnt mean hes only "so-so". He was a top 10 pick. Hes been wasted by the Raiders, and I'm confident he will flourish on our team when we sign him.

Besides, I'd rather trade up and draft a LT then spend on BMAC again. Yeah he played well but we just signed our franchise QB, get him his insurance.

I agree, actually. Huff & a center/guard are our last signings before the draft, though I could see McKinnie if he gets desperate.

I don't want BMac back and have to guess which player we're getting. Sign Huff and then chill til the draft.
I don't want him back either. He's been lazy and I worry about his motivation once he gets his "bread".

If no one signs him before the draft, then he will be desperate to be signed.

Honestly I would just draft a LT. Make a move up to get an elite LT prospect.
I'm drawing a blank on his name but he's the LT for LSU that got hurt during the season. He was considered a sure fire 1st round pick before the injury. I would love for us to get him in the 2nd or 3rd. That's why I'm open to bringing back McKinnie. We have no chance at any of the LT's capable of playing day one. Any of the guys we can get would need a little seasoning.

Is anyone else linked with Huff right now?
Dallas is bring him in on tuesday/tomorrow,but they have absolutley no cap space.I wouldn't worry to much about them, but he did go to college at Texas.

Gonna go out on a limb and assume Ozzie is able to evaluate people on the roster just because fans don't see them in games.

Huff brings versatility to the secondary he has played cb and both safety positions. If he is coming cheap he gives us a player that can be plugged into numerous positions where needed.

Man, i really like this guy. The Raiders as we know really arent established on Defense, but this guy is really impressive, if we get him I can see this Ravens defense top 5! Hope we get him ALOT!

Its simple :D

Do you want to see Oher-Reid-Gino-Yanda-Osemele?

Or B.Mac-Osemele-Gino-Yanda-Oher :D

considering our 4 comp picks and having 11 picks this draft, what I'd rather see is Lane Johnson free-fall and we use a few of our 4 extra picks to trade up and get:

Johnson - Osemele - Gradkowski - Yanda - Oher

Now that would be an offensive line for the future. Hopefully we can sign Huff when he comes here. He's really fantastic in pass coverage and would do well to soften the blow of losing Ed Reed. Huff isn't as great as a run-stopper, though, but few are. We can get a nice thumper like Matt Elam in the draft too, hopefully.

A Lane Johnson and Matt Elam draft would make me about take a victory lap around my neighborhood in April.

the ravens r going young. Huff is anything but that
he's the best stop gap for a couple of years... just until the youngsters mature... the pricetag he's carrying makes him the perfect fit for us and we were high on him during his draft year

2013 NFL defense:

Losses:
Ray Lewis - ILB - Retired
Ed Reed - FS - Overpaid for an aging and injury-prone playmaker
Dannelle Ellerbe - ILB - Overpaid for an injury prone, but an effective run stuffer/ pass blitzer
Paul Kruger - OLB/DE - Overpaid for a pass rusher with average coverage and run defense skills
Cary Williams - CB - Overpaid for a CB 2
Bernard Pollard - SS - Exorcised for ineffectiveness and questionable attitude

Ranked 17th last year due to injuries

Gains:
Chris Canty - DT/DE - Possible Starter for the 5-tech
Marcus Spears - DT/DE - Depth Signing
Elvis Dumervil - OLB/DE - Best Possible Pass Rusher available, but needs help to cover up his other deficiencies

Possibly better than rank 17th?

Possible Signings with the money left:
Michael Huff - FS - Could be an effective stopgap FS until we draft a possible replacement
Karlos Dansby - ILB - Could be an effective stopgap run stuffing ILB until we draft a possible replacement

12 draft picks to fill up our defense (DT, DE, ILB, OLB, CB, FS, SS)

You say that but spears and canty are both 30
Dumerville is 29
And they are willing to look into huff

So are they really going young or simply looking to improve

Weird, that we'll signing up older veterans, but we might need their presence and leadership since we're going to invest in 12 draft picks. Young teams like the Titans and Browns have struggled to finish games due to inexperience.

Hes 30. 6 months - 1 year older than Dumervil and Suggs.

I love that way of thinking, bringing in Dumervil makes sense if we're trying to get younger, but bringing in Huff cant happen bc the FO has stated we're getting younger.

Well when other than Ihedbigbo, your only other options at safety have a combined 0 starts, and pretty close to that number in total NFL snaps, your a little too young at that position and could use a verteran for 2-3 years to make the transition to youth.

I am surprised that the Ravens have enough money to even consider another free agent after landing Dumervil. I don't mind getting Huff for the short haul, but we really need to address ILB, OT, and S in the first 3 rounds of the draft.
