His not really a priority.

# of high talent safety available this year on draft @ our radar

Eric Reid, Matt Elam, DJ Swaringer..
at every position we mix vetaran players with young blood... safety won't be any different... we'll get somebody from the free agency and draft too

I really don't know much about this guy, but, if the Ravens are bringing him in, there must be a good reason for it. So, I'll just wait and watch! However, I am comfortable with Ihedigbo, Christian Thompson and Omar Brown as the safeties on our 2013 roster!

What's going on with this guy? When is he going to visit? I know I remember reading he was going to visit. I thought it was this week or weekend. Can someone update me here?
Why not? What's wrong with Omar Brown who has a great nose for the ball - even Reed said he reminded him of the young him! And Ihedigbo - he can hit much like Pollard did! So why shouldn't I be serious? Does that mean I wouldn't welcome more established safeties? No it doesn't mean that at all! The front office and the coaches have a good idea what is available to them on their existing roster, or I bet you they wouldn't let Pollard go!

we need to get huff in now, he's not going to refuse playing in a secondary with such a strong front 7 developing

Wonder if the huff signing is even possible now that Dumervil has signed his 5yr 35M deal. ?
Yep. Completely possible. Dumervil is taking up $2.5M this year. We have $5.2 and I saw Aaron Wilson say we needed $1.5M for the draft class. $3.7M to work with still.

If we get Huff, our safeties are at least as good as they were last year, if not a little better. We've improved our D-line, unquestionably. Our outside linebackers are improved now with Dumervil and a healthy Suggs, and our corners are improved with a healthy Webb taking Williams' place as the number one. Our so-called "decimated" defense is actually better. ILBs is the only downgrade, at the moment, and that can be remedied with another free agent signing or a solid draft. I'm predicting both. It's all Flacco's fault.

Maybe Thompson is ready to be a starter, we don't know. I'd like still like to get Huff if we can get him really cheap though.

We may still want to leave a little room to sign McKinnie.

Agreed.

People said "Why didn't we trade Pollard?!" I know you know this answer. Correct me if I am wrong, but if we traded Pollard we couldn't designate him as a June 1st release/get the extra cap this year. That's my guess as to why we cut him over trading him.

There wasn't a market for Pollard anyway. He signed a 1 year deal with the titans. it's not like he got released and teams were knocking down his door to sign him. IMO, Pollard was a product of the system. Safety's tend to do very well here. Jim Leonard, Zibby, guys like that all did well in this defense.

It was my understanding that trades carried all of that players cap/contract over to the new team. i.e. We don't have to pay anything for Q, anymore.

I don't know if there was a huge market for Pollard, anyways. He signed a measly one-year deal.

While that's true, we're referring to the signing bonus/guaranteed money. I believe base salaries are gone when the player is cut. I do not believe you can trade guaranteed money/signing bonuses, hence why (if I am not mistaken) we have to eat 1.5M of Boldin's salary of 7.5M, as only 6M was base.

Correct. Base salary travels with the player. Bonuses stay with the team that traded the player.

Huff is due for a visit so signing is a possibility.
When? Does anyone have a date or range? I heard he was visiting this week but haven't heard a word since.

An article posted a few days ago said "Huff is scheduled to meet with the Ravens sometime over the next 5 days." Everything else is even more vague.
