I do love Elam, but I would be okay on passing on Elam if it meant we would trade up and go for Lane Johnson.

This is just because christian thompson is on the roster. Now, I know Lane might not get out of the top 10, and I also know Ozzie is a top knotch evaluator and if he likes Matt Elam he's not going to NOT draft him just because he has Thompson on the roster. At the same time, Ozzie is a top knotch evaluator and watches all the practices and if he feels Thompson is just as far along as Elam is..

then yeah, I wouldn't mind us trading up to picks 11-26 and getting Lane Johnson.
no way and i mean NO WAY we get Lane now that chargers cut Gaither... we're not trading up to 10... Ozzie won't give away our first in this and next year draft just for one player
im actually starting to think he might trade it and maybe a fourth this year for an early second and third... There's been a clear plan to only sign cut players and get the comp picks next year

I agree, actually. Huff & a center/guard are our last signings before the draft, though I could see McKinnie if he gets desperate.
I thought this move would happen and yes it did...what a good pick up this is going to be and I do also think that McKinnie will be signed but Oz is waiting on the right time to get him to sign for the least amount of money which could be after the draft. We might pick up an outstanding blindside blocker in the draft and not need his services any longer. We will see...Go Ravens

#20 should be retired along with #52. Reed will always be a Raven.. No matter where he plays. I am pumped about Huff and felt like at this point he is the clear choice between Reed and him but Reed will forever be a Raven and IMO no one should ever walk out onto a football field in a Ravens uniform wearing the #20.

We are free to sign a WR, OT, ILB, or DE in the draft now. We definitely need depth at safety, too. I really hope we win it all again this year.

No we won't. Draft picks only take up $1 to $1.5 mill in cap space. We're set.

Ah, the good old Rule of 51. People forget about it sometimes.

Dang, this off-season has gone from 'sky is falling' to 'WOAH NELLY' in almost the blink of an eye!!!!

Shall the prognosticators of doom and gloom have anything to say now??

Great signing this guy also has speed. This off-season is getting better. I still need o-lineman though.

So I was correct with about 1.5 mill correct? Rule of 51 can get confusing since it's fairly new.

That's not what Arnie said. Arnie said that the FO is clearly targeting CUT veterans to avoid losing compensatory selections. The FO also clearly let players who were expensive or beyond budget to walk in FA. Combining these two factors means the FO clearly wants to preserve its compensatory selections to maximize its compensation in 2014, of which I agree.

26 and 46 and 47 always looked good in a Ravens backfield as far as numbers are concerned. I know I'd wear 47 for the Ravens and try to have them retire that number.

Man wouldn't be awesome if you could run a 4.3 40 and bench 225 30 times? I don't know what would be a greater honour: playing for the Ravens (i'd play for the vet minimum every year even if I were an all-star just to retire as a Raven) or being a lifetime member of their Front Office.

I knew I'd be a Raven fan for life when I started reading more and more about how our front office handles things.
what? Where did I say that? I said we are only signing cut players to get comp picks next year... UNO from the free agents we've lost. Kruger, ellerbe, Williams and reed. If we sign urfa we'd cancel out our free agent loses and get no comp picks.

Hence, signing only cut players...............

A safety that can both cover and tackle?? This is going to be weird! He has only missed 18 tackles his whole career! Reed last year missed 16, we all love Reed but this is an upgrade

Man I love this signing. I still hope we draft a S in either round 1 or 2, but I would be comfortable with this current group going into week 1.

Elam & Huff ...I could see it happening.

Before the Dumervil and Huff signings we had roughly 7,7 millions in cap space. Dumervil's cap number this year is 2,5 million and it looks like Huff's is roughly 2 millions. However by the "Rule of 51" the team now can take away the 50 and 51st cap nummbers (both 480k) so Dumervil and Huff "eats" roughly 3,5 million of the 7,7 we had before.

Leaving us with a current cap space of roughly 3,7 million. The rookies should take somewhere between 1 to 1,5 million of this. Our 1st and 2nd rounder should be the only ones that fully count against the cap (being that they will be the only ones that get contracts that average over 480k a year) based on our current pics. So the 1st and 2nd pick should count for about 1,2 to 1,4 million in lost cap space and then we lose some cap space for the rest of the draft picks signing bonuses. It should land somewhere around 1,5 to 1,7 million as of our current picks.

This means Ozzie has about 2 million in cap space to play with still and he will also get another 2 million after 1st of June when the Pollard money kicks in.

Anyone betting we could get McKinnie or maybe Gaither back in for under 2 million?

Oh, i thought you were saying we're cutting players so they get signed and we get comped picks. Sorry, my fault.

Gaither will never again be a Raven. I'd be shocked if he played for another NFL team.
