Greatest play ever

20 posts in this topic

Anyone see this?

How the heck do the Ravens only get one play in the bracket of 64.

http://www.nfl.com/bracketology

And the play they do have in the bracket isn't even the top play for the Ravens this year.

The Fling and the 4th and 29 should both be in there

4& 29...yeah that was pretty epic.

or Ed Reed's 108 return vs. Eagles

I hope the Raiders fans are amassing to knock the Immaculate Reception out. We all know it hit the ground, the NFL just loves the Steelers. Just like when the refs handed them the Super Bowl over Seattle.

Forgot all about the Derrick Mason play. But you may as well pull out the back to back 80 yd runs from the year before against the Cowboys to shut down Texas stadium.

Love the quote from Wade Philliips after the game saying he had never seen 2 back to back 80 yd runs.

Not surprised that the Rocky Mountain Rainbow/Flacco Fling/whatever we're calling it is there. You don't have to think it was the best play but it has become the defining play of the SB run and is pretty much an iconic play in NFL playoff history at this point.

Wait, I just looked at it, it's the SB catch. Really, that wasn't even the best play in the game. Irrelevant poll.

Speaking of laying the wood. Chris McAlisters 107 yard FG return for TD was nice. Especially with Lewis laying the wood during the play.

If there's a reason why the Flacco Fling isn't on here, it better not involve the words "luck" or "Rahim Moore".

I looked at this yesterday. The list is ridiculous. There's probably 10 or so plays on the entire thing that need to be up for Greatest Play Ever .. the rest are things that happen every year. I don't know what criteria they used, but it's ridiculous some of the things they have in there. And I don't even mean the Ravens stuff that was left out. There's tons of great plays that are just ignored and a ton of average NFL plays pumped up there.

This one.
Chargers were on a roll Sproles was having a pretty good day. Less than a minute in the game. Fourth and two from our fifteen.
six points give the chargers the win.

and then this happened...

I remember when nfl.com did a similar list, last year, except it was about determining the best team of all-time, out of a field of 64. I recall some Oakland Raiders team from the 1970s (I believe 1976, to be exact) just edging-out the 2000 Baltimore Ravens, by a very narrow margin. The ratio was like 50.3% to 49.7%.

But, all of us know "The Fling" IS sorely missing, in the tournament...

Even though, the lack of "4th & 29" is just wrong, as well...

I just don't see how/know why J.J.'s touchdown catch, in Super Bowl XLVII, is the only play from the Ravens, here; it was not even the best play involving Baltimore from this past season, as I mentioned above. Oh, well...

Mark Clayton's option pass to Derrick Mason?
Joe Flacco's TD run against the Bengals?

But really, the biggest crime is not having the Flacco Fling.

There's many that could make the list. A favorite of mine is Tony Banks to Shannon Sharpe to beat Jacksonville in 2000. That was one great game and an improbable comeback.
