Well put it in a way they would understand. Ask them what they would do if the Bears won the Super Bowl and they had a game on Thursday Night in Chicago. Would they move their game out of respect of the Bears or would they be stingy like the Orioles are being? I guarantee their answer would be, yes they would move the game to a later date.
That is the problem when a city has baseball and football stadiums next to each other.

Tradition is tradition and the fans of baltimore desrve to see the 1st game of the season be here in baltimore where the world can watch us and no othe games impacting it. The orioles are in my blood but on this occasion you bow down a tad and move to a double header the next day or prior to allow the ravens the oppurtunity they deserve to open at home on that thursday night. the oriles get 81 games a year at home, they can afford to bump a night.

That's a Holy Day and should be honored as such.

They play on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas. Those are not holidays? Or holy days, if you prefer.

Also, most Jews will be in services during part of the game and the orthodox won't watch TV during the holiday, which from the NFL perspective is really the crux of the matter - it doesn't want to lose the viewership. But, hypocritical or not, the NFL does adjust its schedule for religion. Not being Christian, I don't really know, but I've always had the sense that family and religious Christmas celebrations are over by Christmas night, which I think explains why the Sunday night game - and only that game - is played on Christmas. It's the opposite for Jewish observance of Rosh Hashanah.
Well, before I digress... I am a Christian and want to clarify when Christmas is over. It is an all day celebration. It is over when December 26th arrives.

first come, first serve my friend. important life lesson right there.

How so. Are they playing baseball in the Bank? As far as I know, there will be no one there to interfere with our opener.

I apologize for my mistake. I was only familiar with midnight mass and services on the morning of Christmas day - I didn't know there was a religious component to the night of the 25th. Sorry again.

I have been an Orioles fan since I was 3 years old ... back when they were a powerhouse and in the running every year. What they accomplished last year is what they use to do on a regular basis and I loved the season, but c'mon. The Ravens are Superbowl Champions .. they deserve to open at home. To hoist that pennant on the 1st day of the season in their building with their fans watching.

Make no mistake, this has -nothing- to do with play-off implications or anything like that with the Orioles. This has to do with the fact that afternoon baseball games make less money at the gate than night baseball games. And we all know how Angelos is when it comes to squeezing an extra dime or two. Which means he's going to want something ... something being money.

Them having to open on the road would irk me to no end.

I was seeing comments on PFT about this and someone suggested that Goodell should threaten to play NFL Games at the same time as the World Series if they don't budge on this issue lol.

Well then play it on a Saturday, more people will be available to come to the game, which means more money at the gate. Plus if the O's were really smart they would make the Saturday Game a Double Header and offer ticket packages to where fans can get tickets to both games. That way they can jack the price up on ticket packages for fans who want to attend both games and they would still make money.

Rosh Hashanah aside, the very easy solution is to move the game to Wednesday. I do not want the Orioles to be put at a competitive disadvantage in the middle of a playoff race.

There's actually more to it. It's not as easy as the Orioles saying OK we'll move the game or start earlier.

Per Jeff Zrebiec just to move the start time up 30 min, "O's would need Players Association, MLB and White Sox approval. They don't think they'd get all 3."

Could you imagine if we just beat the Bears in the Superbowl? You know d@mn well, the White Sox wouldn't approve. LOL.

if you really supported Baltimore, you would make it a double header o's. stupid angelos. always ruins everything. but again its all about the $ even though nobody in bmore would be caring about them that night anyway so what does it matter.

Also note that this isn't all on the Orioles. Gotta be approved the White Sox, Commissioner, and Players Union probably.

A double header for the Orioles wouldn't be horrible but it does take a toll on a bullpen. I want a solution where neither party is put at a competitive disadvantage.

I will have a LOT of ill will towards the Orioles should we not host the opening day game.
I've waited 12 years for this game.
We are the Superbowl Champs!

Ugh.. we only play the White Sox in 2 series in 2013. A 3 game series from July 2nd - 4th in CHICAGO and the 4 day series in Baltimore September 5th - 8th.

Can't we flip the series somehow, move the 4 Day Series in Baltimore to the 2nd - 4th of July 4th have a double header during one of those days, in which would actually give them more money since it would be holidays and more people attending. Then have the three day road series against them in Chicago during the 5th - 7th?

Orioles need to move. Ravens just won the Superbowl its that simple. Stephanie Rawlings Blake needs to get up in this and settle it. Everyone wants to see the Ravens. Love the Orioles but the baseball season is so long. Rescheduling the game isn't a big deal. Just make it earlier in the day

I'm sorry but I don't buy that moving the start time from 7:05pm to 1:05pm is a competitive disadvantage. They play dozens of those games every year where the night before they play at 7:05pm and then the next day they play a 1:05pm game. The O's even have 3 games next season where they play at 7:05pm one night and the next day it's a 12:35pm start time.

The season hasn't started ... this is an easy schedule change .... but you know somebody is going to screw it up. And they can't play Fri or Sat night for the same reasons ... O's play at 7:05pm those days too. I'm trying not go get ahead of myself, but this really annoys the crap out of me.

If the Os game were rained out that day, they would find a solution.....Well find a solution!!! It's not like this game is tomorrow. It's almost 6 months away. I will be at the first home game whenever it is. Just make sure we don't open on the road this year.

Didn't we get a raw deal in terms of the home opener after the last time we won the Superbowl? Conspiracy is right.

So why can't the Ravens just open on Sunday night at home. You people really care if it's a Thursday night game?
I mean the Os should be able to find a solution. If it costs money to reschedule the baseball game let the NFL pay. Personally, I am ok with a Sunday or Monday Ravens opener. Just have it at home.

Yea that sounds good to me. I just don't want the O's to have to play a double header and risk having their bullpen spent...Edit- this is a reply to whoever said they could play the game at 12:30 or 1.

I might be wrong but chances are those games at 7 followed by a 1235 are against the same team in the same city.

Not the same as what everyone here is proposing as such an easy scheduling fix

Think of this as an O's Rain out. Purple Reign.
How many baseball games are rescheuled due to rain a year? 10-15 per team i bet!
Rescheduling baseball games is done all year long and is no big deal.
This is about MLB trying to pry bucks from the NFL.
The NFL really should have the game on Wednesday in Baltimore. There is Seperation of Church and Football.
I believe most all NFL games are on the Christian holy day of SUNDAY are they not?
