That's a Holy Day and should be honored as such.

Christmas is a holy day to some as well. Yet they have and do play on Christmas. . I don't see the problem. sorry.

I bet the Ravens would respect the O's and talk to the NFL about moving their game if the O's ever had a World Series in Baltimore on the same day the Ravens played. I don't see the problem, we play the White Sox Thursday - Sunday, three of which are 7:05 starts. Why not move the Thursday Night Game to a Saturday afternoon start and have a double header on Saturday.

I don't see why there is conflict when it's just so easy to move a Baseball game and play double headers. The only other thing I can think of is playing on Monday Night when the Orioles are in Cleveland playing the Indians.
Playing a double header in the thick of a playoff hunt is the last thing the Os would wanna do.

The orioles should not have to budge out if courtesy when every game matters in the final month.

I thought Rosh Hashanah lasted for two days though. So that would make Thursday off limits as well.

If the Orioles want to keep the fans happy, they need to work something out

I will never forgive the Orioles if we have to open on the road.
I'm sorry but the Orioles should have told MLB to always leave the first Thursday in September away or Off in order to have no conflicts with the Ravens winning the Super Bowl.

Also I was planning on going to the home opener on Thursday Night and I'm not going to be happy if they move this and we have to open on the road.

We got screwed in 2001 as well. The Orioles and Goodell better work this one out. I'm with what someone else said, let them both play and watch Camden Yards drawl a few hundred people vs 71,000 for M&T.

Force the O's hand.Play the game tell the Raven fans to come early.Sept Orioles may be a non factor with 3,00 fans on hand and they will not come early.

I don't care about the O's. Let's schedule our game on Thursday. If they don't move they get little attendance. Let them suffer.

Goodell should tell Bud Selig that if they don't move the game, he'll schedule NFL games during the World Series.

I guess parking might still be a problem, but I thought it'd be cool of they just played at 1pm instead cause it'd be cool to go to an O's game in the the afternoon and then walk across the street to go to a Ravens game that night

The Baltimore Ravens posted this on Twitter.

"League source says there's a chance [s]#[/s]Ravens may not open at home on Thursday Night Football due to cheduling conflict with Orioles."

Your thoughts?

Dont blame the O's.

Blame [profanity deleted]ty owner Peter Angelos. That cheap rat is one stingy coot. He refuse to spend a dime this offseason even after a miracle playoff season last year.

So is Christmas but they still play games then.
Putting aside the nature of how the holidays are observed (while Orthodox Jews will not drive on Rosh Hashanah, I don't believe the same to be true for observant Christians on Christmas), the manner in which the NFL treats the two holidays is interesting. If Rosh Hashanah falls on a Sunday, the games go on as scheduled (although I think the New York teams may adjust the timing of the games in deference to the large Jewish population in New York). For all of those posting saying that the NFL plays on Christmas, so what's the big deal - you're not quite correct. If Christmas falls on a Sunday, as happened most recently in 2011, the NFL schedule is moved to Saturday except for the Sunday night game. The only reason that Rosh Hashanah is an issue for this game is because, as is obvious from the discussion, the opening game of a Super Bowl champion is a really big deal.

If we do not have a home opener, I will tell you right now you will have great bitterness towards the Orioles here in Baltimore. If I were the Ravens, I would simply schedule the game on the Thursday and thus kill their game. Nobody would pass on the Ravens for the Orioles.

the orioles had a game scheduled first. you can't expect them to give it up that easily. plus, the MLB might have issues rescheduling the game, due to the schedule already being announced.

so go easy on the o's. they're just as important to our city as the ravens. we had our first winning season in 15 years last year, and im really looking forward to the season.

I totally agree. I keep hearing that the Ravens and NFL are offering solutions, and the Orioles and MLB haven't agreed to them. Why do we need their approval? It's not on the same field, so just schedule the game in Baltimore on Thursday night like it should be. Then, let the Orioles and baseball work out what they want to do on their own. I'll bet they realize that a change in their schedule is in their best interest then. Why should the Ravens and NFL continue to act as though baseball somehow has the upper hand?

Thank you but what does driving have to do with a scheduled event. If this date happens to be a holy holiday for some then they don't have to participate.

While Sundays' games were moved to Sat., which was so hypocritical by the NFL, they did proceed to play on Sunday night, which was still Christmas.

1. Why can't both be held the same time and night?
2. I just emailed the O's and told them if they are unable to accomodate this national showcase night for the Ravens, I will be unable to find and funds for O's tickets this year.
3. Everyone should email the O's. No reason they cannot move game and have a "buisnessman's special."
4. After all this it will probably rain and the O's won't have their game anyway.

the MLB and the white sox also need to approve the switch. you really think the white sox care about the ravens? i doubt they'll switch it. the situation is more complicated than "angelos is greedy."

Also, most Jews will be in services during part of the game and the orthodox won't watch TV during the holiday, which from the NFL perspective is really the crux of the matter - it doesn't want to lose the viewership. But, hypocritical or not, the NFL does adjust its schedule for religion. Not being Christian, I don't really know, but I've always had the sense that family and religious Christmas celebrations are over by Christmas night, which I think explains why the Sunday night game - and only that game - is played on Christmas. It's the opposite for Jewish observance of Rosh Hashanah.

The Orioles have no reason to move their game when it: was scheduled first, could have potential playoff ramifications, involves the white sox who would also need to agree. Double headers and night games followed by day games are not what I want if IM buck and the OS.

I expected Baltimore fans to be more supportive of a pending postseason run than some over glorified kickoff party that could be just as momentous and exciting on a Sunday night

Well put it in a way they would understand. Ask them what they would do if the Bears won the Super Bowl and they had a game on Thursday Night in Chicago. Would they move their game out of respect of the Bears or would they be stingy like the Orioles are being? I guarantee their answer would be, yes they would move the game to a later date.

Actually, the more I think about a road opener, the more I like it. Since I won't be able to attend the game anyway, hear me out.

1. More time to prepare for a road game. We do well in openers, so why not help out our road woes by scheduling a road game?
2. It'd make us more likely to have a home week 2 game. We've lost the last 3 week 2's, which have all been on the road.
3. What better way to piss the team off than to deprive them of the home opener they earned?
4. A road opener means we would likely face the Broncos or Steelers on the road - two of our tougher games this season. But by points 1 and 3, we'd be more likely to win if we played them week 1 than sandwiched between other games.

Jeff Zrebiec is tweeting like crazy about it. apparently, both the orioles and the white sox have games the night before in other cities, and they don't want to switch it to a day game due to resting and jetlag reasons. theres a whole lot of elements to this situation that make it hard to switch the game. i just don't see the orioles being able to move this game, and i don't think you all should turn on them and tell them you're not gonna go to the games if they don't switch it. i think thats pretty childish. i thought bmore fans were loyal to all their teams, not just one of them. i just don't appreciate all this orioles' bashing when the situation is probably completely out of their control.

and im jewish, so i understand the Rosh Hashanah thing. i want to go to the game, but i'll be in synagogue that night. i appreciate that the nfl is respecting me by not scheduling the game at a time when i cannot attend it.

this whole situation is a huge quagmire, and i dont think it can be simplified the way you guys are saying it can be.
