Thursday Season Opener Conflict - Ravens to Open Season on the Road

414 posts in this topic

The Baltimore Ravens posted this on Twitter.

"League source says there's a chance [s]#[/s]Ravens may not open at home on Thursday Night Football due to scheduling conflict with Orioles."

Your thoughts?

They better get something worked out. It's ridiculous not to open at home after winning the Super Bowl.

Didn't the Giants open on Wednesday last year due to some conflict with an Obama speech, if I recall correctly? If Baltimore can't host the game on Thursday for any reason, the NFL should still accommodate the Ravens and hold the season opener on any other day of that week prior to Sunday. I wouldn't mind at all. What would piss me off is if the NFL doesn't accommodate us and instead gives the opener to someone else.

I read the reason they won't move it to Wednesday is because of Rosh Hashanah. My suggestion was to move it to Friday or Saturday but I guess Goodell isn't smart enough to think about that...

Saturday conflicts with college football and Friday conflicts with high school football, which is why we don't have Saturday games until late in the season when college football is over.

Ahhh I forgot high school football, it's been so long. Now that makes sense as well. I just wish the Orioles would accept to just change their home game

Love the O's but c'mon man! We just won the Super Bowl! Help us out a little bit here.

We BETTER get this season opener. I will be ticked at everyone responsible for the screw up (looking at you Orioles and you, Goodell) if we don't.

They play 162 games and can't move one?

That's what it seems like. I just say have both games play on Thursday and let the Orioles play in an empty stadium at this point. Lol

Is that different from the norm? I've always assumed baseball doesn't sell out on weekdays.

All the Orioles really have to do is make it a day game. They simply don't want to because it is a weekday. Orioles' management, owner, etc had best go check out how many Baltimoreans showed up for that parade for the Ravens. It will not be taken well in the city of Baltimore if their Champion Ravens have to open the season on the road because the Orioles organization is having some ego issues.

Why can't they play on Rosh Hashanah?
what is this?

And the fact the baseball yea,s pay so many games is probably the reason they can't move theirs, no time to fit them in

Rosh Hashanah. Jewish New Year.

The article states they can't move game to Wednesday because of Rosh Hashanah.

No disrespect but I don't understand what that has to do with the Ravens game.

That's a Holy Day and should be honored as such.

Wednesday September 4th the O's are at Cleveland. The could play Wednesday night

Thursday September 5th they are home againts the White Sox which is a pretty good game to see if both teams are in a playoff push.

Why can't the Ravens open up on Wednesday?

Aren't we the 2013 superbowl champ? shouldn't we start the opening game of the season at home like every other past winners do? I know we have been getting disrespect across the board: media and fans, but this is just out of the line. Discrimination or something?

They better work out something so our team will host the opening game of the season.......

So is December 25th. Known as Christmas to Christians. And many NFL games are played on that day.

O's game should just be postponed. Make it an off day.

It all has to be about money but c'mon man, Baltimore won a championship not just the Ravens. O's should respect that and just let them play that day, It really shouldn't be that big of a deal.
There's still a lot of time for them to figure this out but if the defending champs can't open up at home then it's disgraceful.

I bet the Ravens would respect the O's and talk to the NFL about moving their game if the O's ever had a World Series in Baltimore on the same day the Ravens played. I don't see the problem, we play the White Sox Thursday - Sunday, three of which are 7:05 starts. Why not move the Thursday Night Game to a Saturday afternoon start and have a double header on Saturday.

I don't see why there is conflict when it's just so easy to move a Baseball game and play double headers. The only other thing I can think of is playing on Monday Night when the Orioles are in Cleveland playing the Indians.

It would be ridiculous to have the opener in an away stadium. I want to hear the pumped up fans of the defending champs on the very first game. It wouldn't feel right to give it to a random away team. IMO, it's the last moment where you truly embrace the super bowl victory.

They could just move the Orioles game on Thurday up to a 1pm afternoon start. That is the proposal that was made to them that makes the most sense, but they haven't accepted. I cannot imagine why. This is ridiculous. Why don't they just ask the thousands of Baltimore fans that attended the Ravens parade what game they would rather see that night in their city? C'mon.
