Sunday QB

Elvis Dumervil

This Dumervil thing is getting weird now ... different timeline explanations from the two sides ... Agency now saying Broncos faxed them a new contract 12-mins before deadline. Weird.

He agreed to a reduction in pay and the market cap right now is 7-8 mil. Just sayin maybe they pissed him off of enough to come here and play for a contender.

What he may want to do is not significant. It is what the Ravens can afford, and obviously we cannot afford to pay anyone 7-8 million. That would be the lions share of our cap space. Not to mention the fact that the Ravens rarely pay market value for anyone. Oz is a major bargain shopper.

Why is there always someone that as soon as any player gets released they want to know if the Ravens are going to pick him up? Guys, he was released because he wanted too much money. Have you ever known the Ravens to pay some other teams cast off too much money?

He was released because his agent didn't get the paperwork to the Broncos on time.

Dumervil agreed to taking a pay cut to stay with the Broncos. If I were Elvis, I'd take my agent out into a dark parking lot and beat him senseless.

That all sounds sort of fishy to me. An agent is (or should be) smarter than that. Regardless, even at 8 million we really cannot afford the guy, no matter how good he is. We do not have a lot of cap space left, and still have to sign our draft picks.

I would think that any signings we do make are going to be like Canty or Speers. Both are lower dollar amounts. If you can call millions of dollars low. Lol. Now if Dumervil were to drop his price to a million or two, then I could see him in purple.

His agent is saying they faxed a contract with wrong numbers on it, needed to correct and re-fax. By the time they got the correct contract, only had 20 min to get it reviewed, signed and re-faxed, and given the previous sleight-of-hand, they went over it very carefully. Thought they were faxing it back with 5 min to spare.

Broncos, of course, are denying any of this ever happened.

Smells like fish to me...

If I had to choose between Dumervil and Harrison, I'd take Dumervil in a heartbeat. But you're right, jaege. We can't afford him.

Regardless of whether it's Dumervil's agent's fault or the Broncos fault, both sides might be too pissed to agree to a new contract. I can only hope we pursue him. He'd be an excellent addition to our pass rush.

This whole topic is funny. People saying "nah he wants too much money; it took him that long for a 4 million pay cut: in the end, he took the team who offered him less money and more love. It shows that not ALL players are looking for more money all the time.
