Canty offers some pass rushing ability as well. I'm pretty sure this solidifies that we'll be seeing a lot more of Ngata at the nose with rotations of Canty, Spears, McPhee, and Jones on the ends.

I like this move ... everything finalized. Ozzie and Co. being Ozzie and Co. He should hold seminars for the rest of the league, starting with a couple free ones for Miami, Cleveland and Philly. Our DL is gonna be pretty nasty ... that "lets run up the middle on the Ravens" crap is at an end I think.

Folks are scared this means Ngata will be cut because 11M is too mmuch for a NT.

Way too much dead money this year for Ngata to be cut. Ive heard it may be a possibility after this season if he doesn't return to form.

DL Depth:

Starters
C. Canty - he's paid like a starter and will hold down the fort on one side
H. Ngata - Probably shift to NT, since we have Canty and Jones back
A. Jones - I think the front office is preparing for his departure next year by signing veteran Linemen now because he could command big money if he continues his breakout season from last year.

Back-ups
M. Spears - A solid run defender who is paid for depth purpose
P. McPhee - Our D-line nickel package pass rusher
T. Cody - Writing is on the wall unless he improves dramatically
D. Tyson - Developmental player with playing time experience

Looks like we improved our d-line by trading in Kemoeatu and McBean for Canty and Spears, which is a definite improvement on paper. I assume we're going to shift one of our 5techs into NT or draft a NT if Cody does not improve.

According to PFF, he graded out negatively last year. Dallas defense was a mess last year, so I wonder what our office sees in him. The reports on him says he's good against the run, but shows nothing in the pass rush department. I would've feeled better if it was a 1 year prove it deal, but our front office been giving out a lot of 2 year backloaded incentive deals. i know the extra year helps reduce cap and keeps him for another in case he turns out to be a quality player. However, I don't see much on Spears as his skills has been capped. Maybe a fresh start could do something.

Think this marks the end of McBean coming back for sure? 8 interior linemen might be a bit much... but maybe not if he has recovered from the injury.
