The former raven is a free agent and shouldn't cost too much. I remember when he was traded most people on here were upset seeing as how he is young and has shown potential. We have a need at linebacker and I would like to see us give Barnes another shot here. Thoughts?

I think he would be a good situational pass rusher and provide great depth. He could be somewhat cheap too.

Probably a lot cheaper and certainly younger than James Harrison. If we are going with the small ball and youth approach, this would seem like a good move. That way if a really nice pass rusher comes available in the early rounds of the draft, we do not have a log jam there either.

Younger, cheaper, but not anywhere close to being as complete. Harrison is a complete OLB.

Good pass rusher, but why was he not re-signed? and why did we trade get rid of him in the first place?

He is a pass rushing specialist who doesn't play ST and from what I remember wasn't the best in rush defense. So, he just does one thing well.

It's not because of his lack of run defense, he was a situational rusher that was his role.

Uhhh...the whole reason he is a situational pass rusher is due to his run defense. Otherwise he would be a starter.

Uhhh...not everyone has to be a starter to contribute, a 4th round pick who can rush on passing downs is good value.

Barnes was supposed to be what Kruger is now, a situational pass rusher that can come in on passing and rushing 3rd downs to cover the TE, RB, and go after the QB. Maybe with some time to learn his craft, he may be able to step back into that role in Baltimore and not skip a beat from Kruger.

I would sign Harrison, because if he still has some juice in the engine, you'd have Suggs, Upshaw, and Harrison linebacking.

I could get used to that very easily, given that last year the defense was very good at times and seriously bad sometimes. Stability that Harrison could provide, and he will want to prove something, would serve us well, especially with Jameel McClain uncertain and Pollard gone.

We could also draft a linebacker to learn from Suggs and Harrison.

Sign him up.

Thats true but Harrison is OOOOLLLLDD :). Not to mention we have Suggs and Upshaw, so really all we are missing is that pass rusher to compliment Suggs on passing downs. Seems to me Harrison will come at more of a price, and will only be around for a year or two.

We'll agree to disgaree and I think your comment makes little sense. Yes, that's true that a situational pass rusher could be a starter in theory, but I do not see that being the case here. If we were a 4-3 I could see it. I don't in this situation.

But, that's my opinion.

Wasn't he in Harbaughs' infamous 'dog house'? When Rex Ryan was here he used him very well. Barnes and J. McClain were used as outside reserve pass rushers. Rex developed both of them just like he did Bart Scott and A. Thomas. Rex left, McClain was moved inside and Harbaugh had issues with Barnes (reported something to do with not playing special teams) The Ravens practically gave him to the Eagles.

The point is we didn't trade him because he couldn't stop the run because he wasn't a starter, he was depth behind Suggs and JJ.

Seems we have that guy already on the team. Adrian Hamilton. And Hamilton did play STs for us at season's end.

I really think he's a gem. I think of how we lost James Harrison and I think this kid has that kind of potential.
