With Tony G coming back, it is somewhat realistic.
I still think the Falcons take a TE with their 1st. Tony G only has a year left, and they don't have that many needs on their team.

He decided not to retire: interesting.

When did he announce that? I totally missed it.

we're not gonna draft any TEs early unless we lost Pitta. we have bigger needs than TE as of right now. our entire defense is gone, and we'll probably spend our first few picks on defense. i would be surprised to see us take a TE before the 5th if pitta stays.

Yeah, I pointed this out in the FA WR Thread.

Pitta is a just a solid pass catcher. He's not a complete TE like Jason Witten or Vernon Davis. We just have to work with what we got. Ed Dickson knows he's on the ropes and could do something big, maybe finally reach his potential as a complete TE that can stretch the seam.

What is Dickson's potential?

Not sure but if we could get a 3rd for him he would be gone IMO. I wouldn't match that offer. Take the 3rd and draft Reed at some point. I really like Reed.

We have two solid TEs. If we lose him, we get a second rounder.

Oz will match this one
Pitta is one, who is the other? Dickson? hahahaha

Again, YOU CAN'T TRADE A COACH.

You trade players that are still on contract, and that's about it. You fire a coach, and hire a new one.
actaully you can and its happen numerous times, Tampa gave up a tonne to Oakland for gruden

no one is gonna claim dickson. pitta is much more likely to get claimed. but honestly, i would take a 3rd rounder for dickson. we could get someone much better with that pick.

And THEN the NFL changed the rules. Teams can no longer trade coaches for draft picks.

"Jon Gruden led the Bucs to a franchise-record 12 victories, a division title and a berth in Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Eagles. You would have to agree the trade Tampa Bay made with the Raiders for the rights to Gruden is an unqualified success. Now such a deal is against league rules"

Pitta is AT LEAST a top 7 TE in the leage right now. He's got great hands, has good speed and is reliable. He's the freaking white american express for god's sake. He can even be used in the slot WR role, which i like him there. As of right now, without Boldin, Pitta is Flacco's go-to guy. They are great friends with great chemistry. Flacco's contract isn't even a factor anymore, there is no reason for us to let Pitta go.

We need Pitta. I'm fine with all the other releases (maybe not Pollard, i loved him), but i would be devastated if we lost Pitta. I'm not confident in Dickson to make all the catches like i am with Pitta. PITTA HUT DELIVERS.

I say we throw more bones to Pitta and Dickson this year to see what their free agent value next year will be like. Also we draft a young TE to be under their wing for a year or two because we know we don't have the money to keep two TEs like New England. We resign the one that is not overvalued next year or find a new TE. Pitta is the heavy favorite to break into Witten territory. Dickson is probably going all out in his contract year. We know he has the athleticism and deceptive speed, but needs to get a pair of Pitta mitts. As for the draft, there are some good TE talents in the mid round for us.

Sorry if I missed this in an earlier post. The Bengals are a team with cap room who I can see trying to snatch Pitta. They have a need and a late 2nd round pick. Will there be a better tight end available to them in the draft? I don't believe so.
With the added incentive to take from a divisional opponent........That would concern me.
Packes also crossed my mind as a possibility.

RFA Emmanuel Sanders reportedly just signed an offer sheet with the Patriots. Steelers have 5 days to match or will receive the Patriots 3rd round pick. So much for RFAs being relatively safe huh?

I just don't understand why they didn't hit Pitta with a first round. I really don't.

The Bengals have a great tight end already in Gresham, though, and he's coming off his best season as a pro, plus he's still very young. IDK if they'd trade a second round pick for another tight end.

Same here. I mean, I know we're tight ... but an extra $800k to pretty much lock him up. C'mon! "American Express" is worth the extra moolah.

RFAs are still relatively safe. Of all the RFAs in the league, Sanders is the only one being signed.

Yea, difference between 2nd and 1st round tender is about $800k .. something like $2mil vs $2.8mil

Maybe they tendered him knowing it was a possibility he would get taken for 2nd rounder ? He is a pretty good receiver but is not fast and can't block and he also sometimes drops the easy passes , while I don't think they plan for that to happen but getting another 2nd rounder and possibly getting ertz or eifert

We probably did tender Ed Dickson hoping someone gets him. We didn't tender him with a 2nd, though. He was given an original round tender of a 3rd.

(Btw, I realize you are talking about Pitta but that's the worst comparison for Pitta--he does not drop easy passes. Come on, now.)

Like when he was hit right after he caught the ball and still held onto it
