My Dad's the same way. Huge man crush on Pitta and just got his jersey this year. I wouldn't like it either. And I don't think joe would either.

I can understand the logic in letting him go and getting the 2nd rounder because he is 28 and it could be good value, but there is no logic in paying your QB big money and then taking his favorite targets away.

Not just his favorite, but our Best weapons........

Could easily see a TE-hungry team like Reid's Chiefs opening the purse for him...
didn't the chiefs get fasano? and i dont think reid uses a lot of 2 TE sets. i doubt the chiefs would go after him. plus, they don't even have a second round pick cuz of the alex smith trade.

I wasn't aware that they signed Fasano. Anyway, the point is there are a lot of teams that would be eager to sign post-Super Bowl Pitta.

Perhaps. If only KC still had a 2nd round pick.

Yeah yeah, wademan informed me. But there are a bunch of teams, including the Fasano-less Dolphins, that would pay a pretty penny for Pitta.

i could see the cardinals, raiders, or even giants nabbing him. chances are, he stays, just because there are a ton of good TEs in the draft this year that are younger and come with a better value than giving up a second rounder and a bunch of money

If we could parlay Pitta into a high 2? pssshh. Im IN. lol. He was a 4th rd pick. Hes a great player and I like him, but a 2 would be awesome. Besides, Dickson isn't as good but he's dynamic. I say this would NEVER happen though... Joe was be royally PISSED! lol.

Idea: Do the deal for the 2nd rounder, and with the cap space sign Jennings......
pitta has second round talent, but the main reason he needs to stay is because of his chemistry with flacco. we just paid flacco big money, so we're not gonna take his best friend away right afterwards. that would be horrible for our offense. id take pitta over a second rounder.

on another note, im surprised teams arent more interested in dickson. he flashed his potential in 2011, and his hands are underrated. he actually had a pretty solid catch rate last year. it was about even with pittas. and he's faster and more explosive than pitta as well. the only reason he doesnt get the targets is because he dropped a bunch of passes late in 2011. if i were a gm in need of a TE, i would jump all over dickson, due to the ravens undervaluing him

I'm not sure I'd go after Jennings, but I like your idea. A 2nd-rounder would help the Ravens to invest in the future and would free up cap space.

How bout this...

Keep Pitta at all cost.
Draft a TE in the early-mid rounds.
Have that TE be Jordan Reed. :)

Dennis Pitta could get franchised next year, if he develops into Jason Witten. If not, Ozzie might let he go to get overpaid. The best option is for the front office to try extend around training camp or midseason, if he shows a lot of promise.

61 rec 669 yds 7 TDs are decent numbers, but not top TE money.

I have a better idea... Extend Pitta to a contract similar to what Corvus said, hope Dickson gets picked up by someone and we get their third, use our first round pick on Eifert and bam, we just matched the Patriots with our own version of Gronk/Hernandez.

I'd rather use our 1st rounder on a guy like Matt Elam (especially if we lose Ed) than use it on another TE who wouldn't even the top guy at his position on the team.

Ertz, Escobar, Jordan Reed, and Travis Kelce will all be available in the second round or later, unless Ertz goes in the late first. all of those guys have really high potential and are much younger and cheaper than pitta.

No way in Hell is Eifert going to fall to the 32nd pick.

I don't think Caldwell will use Double TE set. I think he will use 3 WR set a lot, so we need to find a slot receiver. We can Torrey Smith all over the place because we know he can eat up space. Routes like WR Screens, Quick Slants, Drags, and whole 9 yards and in all 3 WRs positions. If a torrent can be effective in all this area, a big contract awaits next year. We don't want overpaid one trick ponies like Mike Wallace.

With Tony G coming back, it is somewhat realistic.

Pitta is a just a solid pass catcher. He's not a complete TE like Jason Witten or Vernon Davis. We just have to work with what we got. Ed Dickson knows he's on the ropes and could do something big, maybe finally reach his potential as a complete TE that can stretch the seam.
