Dennis Pitta receiving inquiries from multiple teams

187 posts in this topic

I expect us to retain Pitta. We will match offers unless somebody throws a huge contract at him, and to do that along with giving up a second rounder for 28 year old is a steep price. So my guess is that Pitta will still be Raven. He's a player who connects with Flacco both on and off the field too. So I don't see us losing him.

The problem is... We don't have any options to replace him.

Brandon Myers is a free agent and I think he could be a suitable replacement for Pitta.

Not saying it's not going to happen. Just saying that this is not likely. I'm sure that the FO are high on Pitta, and that they will do a lot to retain him. And that it's going to take one hell of a offer to pry him away.

I doubt teams would give up a 2nd for pitta, besides his catching ability he doesnt exactly pull a jimmy graham 2.0.

Go ahead and take him. We'll just draft the best TE on the board with that pick and save a million dollars in cap room.

I will never buy a jersey again this is just getting ridiculous. Guys are up for a second contract and already rumors start circulating about a possible departure.

SMH if Pitta leaves!!!!

I'd hate to lose Pitta mostly because he & Joe have that chemistry going on. I said when we tendered him that a 2nd round was too low. Teams will definitely think about it. Doesn't mean he'll accept it or that we won't match it. It wouldn't be the end of the world though. We'd still have Dickson (who everyone initially said was the better all around TE anyway) and there are TEs to be had in the draft.

Still more than what we have.
I dunno, would have to real desperate at that spot to give up a 2nd rounder.

I'm confident that our Front office won't let Pitta go anywhere.
If it's a front-loaded offer, we won't have any choice but to let him go.

If worse ABSOLUTELY came to worse and we lost Dennis Pitta we could take that 2nd rounder and draft Zach Ertz, Jordan Reed, or Vance McDonald who all look like they can be good pass catchers.

I dont see Ozzie letting Pitta go...he would definitely match any offers, if Pitta even gets any from the interest he is generating.

If someone is going to take him I hope it's the dolphins. Well get the top of the top of the crop at receiver in the second round.

Is that because Boldin's cap room is not freed up until he returns from Africa and takes his physical? (something I read).
IF that happens are we still committed to the Boldin trade? No backing out?

Two of my five favorite Ravens - Boldin and Pollard - are gone. Another one is as good as gone. Today, Andre Johnson revealed that he called to congratulate Ed Reed post-Super Bowl win, and Reed replied "Get me to Houston!".

While Pitta's personality doesn't resonate with me as well as my favorite Ravens do, he's undeniably a tight end that creates mismatches with linebackers and safeties. On a much less vital level, he does have established chemistry and friendship with Joe Flacco.

So, if you're keeping score, the media has blown up the Cary Williams and Paul Kruger losses (there are top draft choices already groomed for those roles), as well as the loss of maybe the 3rd-best MLB who should be paid less than the 3rd-best punter, but is instead making more money than Flacco this year (Dannell Ellerbe). I've loved Anquan Boldin since Florida State, but I endorsed the trade because $6m is too much for a slow receiver who's turning 33.

However, and feel free to offer retorts here, the Ravens are likely losing two of the 10 best safeties in the NFL. Ed's a loyal dude who loves the city, so it's not certain.

They're losing them because they disrespected Harbaugh.

Absurd as it sounds, Bisciotti could have pulled an Al Davis and traded John Harbaugh, then elevated Caldwell or made Rob Ryan head coach. I'm just saying. Let's not forget Harbaugh only stopped defending Cam Cameron when it started to look bad on him. The team wouldn't have changed much should they have decided to trade Harbaugh.

1. The playbooks could have remained mostly intact.

2. Ed Reed and Bernard Pollard would have stayed, maybe even been OK with padded practices going forward if the new coach could find some compromise or articulate his reasoning and logic better.

3. Even if some of the Ravens' best departing players didn't respect Harbaugh (and by disrespecting Cam, even Flacco essentially questioned Harbaugh's decisions), many GMs and owners would desire to have John Harbaugh as head coach. I bet the Ravens might have been able to get 2 2nd-rounders or a 2014 first.

If Pitta leaves, the draft strategy has to change. They need to go WR 1st round. In my mind, Jonathan Bostic is the best MLB in this draft. They need to get him, but they must move up in the 3rd to get a TE in those circumstances.

Let's hope Ed Reed stays, but the Ravens won't be able to afford Pitta if he signs an offer sheet. They could when Boldin gets back to take his physical.

Brandon Myers isnt anywhere close to Pitta talent wise. We might get someone in the draft to be a replacement, but I would say there is very little to no chance Pitta goes anywhere.

You don't have to pay their contract if a team agrees to take him. You do owe the balance if you fire him.

This is a unique situation...he doesn't get along with elite players, he doesn't know offense or defense.

They probably wouldn't have netted 2 first-round draft picks, 2 second-round draft picks, and $8 million in cash (what Jon Gruden was traded for) because - well - Harbaugh doesn't know offense or defense.

Anyone who defends Harbaugh is picking him - who doesn't call plays and stood behind Cam Cameron for 4.8 seasons - over Pollard, Reed, and Boldin.

Interesting. Boldin's money still on the books until his physical. Another team could swoop in and offer a deal for Pitts that we can't match. Could this be a way for Boldin too screw us back?

I'm taking it - with all the ridicule I'm receiving - that you guys (and gal) think Ozzie Newsome would have released Bernard Pollard even if Harbaugh had not have been so forceful with the padded practices.

You also must think that Ed Reed's statement to Andre Johnson had nothing to do with Harbaugh.

Maybe the Ravens find safeties already as good as Reed and Pollard in the draft. I'm a Ravens fan, so I hope I'm wrong. I staunchly defended every move (I even said before Boldin was dealt that I wouldn't pay him $6 MIL in that situation) before the Pollard one.

I guess it's more important for Bisciotti to have the coach who preps the team the way Harbaugh does. I mean, Herm Edwards, Eric Mangini, Ken Whisenhunt and Mike Singletary all had their teams playing hard. Who wouldn't want them over having Reed and Pollard? I mean, none of them called plays either, but - I TELL YA, STEVE - they got their teams READY! You just can't find a guy who doesn't have strong X's and O's but is a great leader like Harbaugh ANYWHERE.

...Edwards, Mangini, Whisenhunt and Singletary would all have accepted the Ravens job.
