With the Rams getting Jake Long. It moves solid LT Saffold, an above average starter at LT, to RT. Which he doesn't seem to want to do.http://www.cbssports...e-for-jake-long

He has a low cap hit, and would keep Oher on the right side (actually, they would prob make us give Oher to them in a deal, and then I could see us signing Winston).

I think Ozzie should persue him. Especially bc he has the potential to be a top tier LT if at full health. Another young, talented, under the radar player.

Fits the mold.

Flacco would have plenty of time to throw with a line of

Saffold
Osemele
Gino
Yanda
Oher or Winston

Edit: Title makes more sense. Thanks mods :)!

My one worry if we go after Saffold is that he is going to be asking for a contract after next season and wanting LT money..It is a rather big investment, plus a solid pick, I am not sure we would be able to do this. It may be good for one year but in the long term I cannot see us keeping him after one year with Oher, Pitta, Dickson, Art Jones, etc. all needed new contracts next year..we would need to sign him to a long term contract right away which is very feasible, just it might cost alot

We do what we did with Boldin contract wise (minus trading him to the niners later)

From what I can gather from the Ram's forums is he's good in pass pro and a decent run blocker, his problem is staying healthy.

I'd trade Oher for Saffold if it meant we would get a pick in return, otherwise that's a steal from the Rams. Oher might not be a great LT but he is versatile. He is also a good team player. They had better give us a 5th as well as Saffold.

Depends on the price, but if we did bring him in he'd be more proven at LT than any of the guys we could get (barring another McKinnie-like cut).

I agree we could sign him to an extension once we trade for him ala Boldin but that probably means we will not be keeping some key young guys next year...I would not be mad at all if we got him though, but I do worry about what we would have to trade for him and what contract he would be asking for

Why can't the Rams do that? I'm saying that Oher > Saffold because of injuries being a big factor but also versatility and he is a great team player. Say what you want about big Mike, but he is the epitome of a team player.

I like Oher, but I have a feeling that's who we would have to give up to get him

I'm not disagreeing but the Rams would have to send a pick in return as well as Saffold. A straight-up trade would be unfair.

Perhaps we could send them Michael Oher & a 7th for Saffold & a 5th. That would be a better deal. Saffold isn't the epitome of health. A player is no good if he doesn't see the field. That's why straight-up doesn't work and I don't see Oz making that deal.

Let me ask another question. Can Jah Reid play RT?

I have mixed feelings but I would rather he play RT than LG, that's for sure. He didn't look bad as a RT when he played for Oher in 2011.

He doesn't really play any position well. Our O-line were struggling when he was in LG, and we were struggling when he was RT. Then as soon as we shuffled to Mac/Osemele/Birk/Yanda/Oher, things just started to click.

You know what? Teams are not exactly vying for McKinnie. I bet we could get him on a very affordable contract, unless part of this roster purge ,the Ravens go through right now, is that the team wants to get younger.

What we do with the left tackle position will be the most important key/factor into our success in 2013.

And actually I'm hearing that the Rams and Jake Long might not work out. Maybe we can low-ball Long into coming and playing for contenders as opposed to the Rams or Dolphins?

I think it's worth a shot.
