Anyone else kind of excited?

Either way. we need to have a stellar draft ... The projects like Harewood, Jah Reid, Terrance Cody... these guys have ALL been failures. Solid picks, that don't need 3 years to produce ...

I'm not worried about Kruger or Ellerbe, both had their limitations as players, Boldin too but his clutch jumpball catches are going to be very hard to replace.

I'd like to see which LB's we bring in (if any) I'm hoping for Erin Henderson.

does anyone know how many compensatory selections we're looking at? (assuming cary williams and bryant mckinnie leave, and ed reed stays). and also, what rounds are the picks gonna be in?
The comp picks we get for this years draft are for players we lost last year minus free agents we signed. We should net 4 picks. A 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th. But they haven't been awarded yet.

Yes I am excited.
I love all the people screaming in the streets, burning their jerseys, giving up on the season already.
I love watching Ozzie do what he does best.

Packers Brad Jones is the marquis guy right now, can do it all. Larry Grant and Dan Connor are underrated and probably the best for value.

Then you have veterans like Karlos Dansby, Daryl Smith and Nick Barnett who can still contribute.

I was prepared for this at the beginning of the season, I figured Boldin and Kruger would be gone, so I'm not too upset. Also, considering past years, I'm not too worried about the upcoming season and I'm also excited. I'm mostly excited to see the young guys step up. Once we get closer to OTAs and camp then I'll be more excited about our "eventual" FAs and draft picks. I think if Canty can stay healthy then that will do wonders for our dline. Even if he is a rotational guy like some people believe he will be, although I'm not too sure why he couldn't be a flat out starter. It will be weird to see those guys in different colors though.

Boldin in SF will be weird but I can still picture him as a Cardinal. Now Kruger, in a Browns get-up. Thats gonna be really strange........

I think it will be weird seeing Boldin in a 9er uniform more so because he was a Cardinal and now he'll be playing against them twice a year then because he was just in purple and black. It's also going to be weird playing against Kruger twice a year.

I don't really get excited around free agency time, since we hardly every do anything big (something a lot of people around here don't seem to get). Come draft time, now that we're down a starting receiver, could use a young impact player in several defensive spots, and are armed with picks, I will be very excited.

I'm always excited this time of year. Just to watch Oz and the FO make their moves. You cam already see them angling for us to be younger, faster and competitive for the next 5 years+.

I also find myself frustrated as heck with parts of our fanbase. The Ravens don't go for the "big splash" like so many teams. We just don't do it ... but year in and year out we compete and more times than not are in the playoffs. And yet, every single year, you have to deal with the "Ozzie is an idiot" crap that floats around and the falling sky.

So far, this year seems somehow worse than previous years. Even when you take into account the meltdown that occured after Mason, Heap, McGahee and Gregg were let go. If Ed Reed leaves (and the chances are pretty good he might), I may have to stay off the forums for a few days.

Ive posted the same sentiment a few times. This is a Ravens offseason. Im not sure we've reached Mason, Heap, McGahee, and Gregg level yet, but its still funny. If Ed leaves, Im out for a bit. OT will be my home as if we just lost a game.

We still up for Rio? It's less chaotic than here after a loss.

Wouldn't mind any of them to be honest, would prefer Jones or Dansby the most.

We need 1-2 big dlinemen now, since we're likely going to have two new starters at ILB.

We got Canty and we are moving Ngata to NT while having a stud at DE in Jones......

They way its gone so far...Ray gone....Boldin gone....Birk gone....Kruger gone.....Ellerbeast gone...... if Ed goes Ill be heartbroken but we've seen big names go and we've survived. Not THIS BIG, but still. Onward and upward....even if that means going backwards for a moment.

Yea, it sucks to lose pretty much the whole team, but Ozzie clearly isnt an idiot and has never jumped into something without a plan. While I dont think he reloads with players BETTER than Kruger, Boldin, and Ellerbe, I am super curious to see who the new faces will be and what moves will be made in the draft.

Also, does someone know how much cap space there is after today?

Realistic Wishlist:

James Harrison
Danny Amendola
MLB?
MLB?

The team is getting a serious makeover and I expect this to be another off season of subtle, yet useful and effective moves.

How you guys feeling about the near future?
I'm VERY excited as well. I believe we are ending our shift to a more balanced team. For 16 of the 17 years of our existence we have been known as a defensive team, this season was the beginning of the transition, not to an offensive team, but an all around team. Also, SOOOOO many people have already counted us out, I LOVE being the underdog. For christ sake we were underdogs 75% of our time in the post-season this year. lol

I will not be too optimistic here I believe that we will have our bumps in the road, but when it matters most I think our coaches will prep well and our players will execute.

But I DO NOT want Harrison AT ALL.. I know I will hear the "but he was a raven before he was a steeler" junk, but how many games did he play for us exactly...? NONE
So in my books he was never truly a Raven

I might stand alone here on this one but I think our receiving core is fine. Realistically we only need 3 guys because it looks quite certain that we're resigning Pitta and Dickson so we'll be using both of them quite often. Smith and Jones are already the given two and the third will be decided between Doss, Reed and Streeter.

Meh.... I'm usually positive (with a few sarcastic comments and some bold statements in between) but ill lose it if we lose Reed..... I'll just take a break from the boards all together... I don't want to go through that hell

Theres still no guarantee that Ngata is moving to NT, the Canty signing could just be for depth and heavier rotation. When healthy Ngata is the only guy who can consistently hold his ground and not get blown off the ball.

I'm happy, have cap room, Canty was a good pick up, tendered players and a position that's weak can easily be strengthened. The guy who left was an UDFA and the guy behind him is a UFDA which leads me to believe this team might have an eye for ilbs. Ed Reed to me is now the priority as long as he's not overpaid. Still have the draft, which is also deep at positions the team needs. The Ravens will be fine as long as they come back focused. All I ask of Ozzie is this, PLEASE DONT DRAFT TEO!

I am super excited about this 2013 season. I have no expectations and am gonna enjoy watching the "new" Ravens take the field. Yes, I will miss Ray Lewis, how can I not.. Yes I will miss Q.. However, Im even more excited to see the future of our team.
I seriously pumped up for this years draft and I cannot wait for the season to start.

It's funny because we are like the Penn State Linebacker U machine. Look at all of the guys that play Linevacker on this team and end up cashing in a big payday somewhere else. We should be able to find some good young guys to learn and grow, maybe get a vet like dansby cheap until the young guys are ready.
