Aaron Wilson just reported that the Ravens re-signed WR David Reed to a 2 year deal worth a maximum $2.5 million with a $500,000 signing bonus.

I know he has a lot of haters here but he is actually quite a good special teams players and look good in spot WR duty last year. I like the signing.

Quote from the article.

Team officials have been impressed with the 6-foot, 190-pounder's work ethic as he diligently rehabbed his knee injury to get back on the field last season.

By retaining Reed at a lower price than the $1.323 million original-round tender, the Ravens saved some space against the salary cap and kept some depth at receiver and a core special teams contributor.

Also, his cap hit is lower than what it would have been if he got an RFA tender.

I'm glad the front office is spending the two million saved from Boldin wisely. I mean what will this team do without David Reed? Hopefully the sixth round pick will be great as well.

Oh god! I'm so glad they made a deal with David Reed!!!! I have been sweating bullets. Now, if we can lock up Considine long term, we're set!!!!

He's still got potential to be a receiver for us. More importantly I think, we need an extra return guy now. Jacoby is going to get more playing time w/ the offense with the departure of Boldin. Will be on Special Teams less I would assume.

i'm actually quite ok with this... we need depth at WR... and we know he didn't have enough chances to prove that he can make it as WR (and not just return specialist)

if JJ gets to be our 2nd receiver and needs to play more, then having somebody else (also) returning kicks makes perfect sense

Ha. I like this. Saves a bit of money and keeps some depth at WR. I want LaQuan to get the WR3 spot though. He can make great contested catches when healthy.

Also randomly, I'd like them to lock up Corey Graham long term. After the dust settles, of course.

Love this move. Super cheap deal with a low guarantee. That's awesome. Really nice move. Some may hate, but this is a smart move. I think Caldwell can bring out the best in Reed.

Doesn't mean David couldn't be cut after training camp but we'll see.

Exactly my opinion. Such a low guaranteed salary means we could cut ties so easily. I doubt it. I think we kept him for a reason. I hated on him, but he impressed me when he returned. I really got a good feeling with this signing.

At worst, this is a good special teams signing. After coming back from his injury, Reed played very well as a gunner on the punt team. Nice, cheap signing Ozzie.

Sorry never been a big fan of this guy. He may have impressed someone but he isn't worth hanging onto. Surprised he is still with the Ravens to be honest.

Why not? What is unimpressive? His KR skills? His ability to be a quality ST gunner? His ST value? His very limited involvement as a WR so far? The fact that all he has done as a WR are end arounds (if I am not mistaken), the fact that he has been injured twice? The fumbles?

Let's not condemn a man here before proper trial. JJ was cut by the Texans because of his history. He blew up here. Sometimes, all a guy needs is a chance.

Something he'll definitely get now that Caldwell is calling the shots.
