Some body mentioned here that he wouldn't be used as the #1 WR in SF. well yea... that's the scary part. He's always been deadly as the #2 and slot receiver.

Now that some hours have passed i've calmed down a bit. The Ravens did Q some good by sending him to a team that can use him and a contender. I would have rather seen the Ravens take small pay cuts to everyone instead of putting it all on Q. I don't think he deserved that, but what happens happens.

I really hope Anquan just retires lol but if not have a great season man.

Irrelevant update from SF!
So they are happy bc they got an "elite WR". So the bandwagon fans were all over me and the other ravens fan at my school.. Saying "we have no chance at the playoffs"...

It's hilarious. I don't think Boldin contributes at all for them, and Ozzie gets a steal in the 6th, just to rub it in their face.

They just got their ring for the best offseason.... Congrats.

They were partying after school lol. Saying
"SUPER BOWL BABY"

I walked by with a smirk on my face.

So while we are super pissed, they are preparing for the parade.............

They lost the trade... Just saying

Sooooo...boldin doesn't contribute and we get a 6th round steal.......smh

Thank goodness we play no pistol QBs this year. Plus, guys like Kaep and Wilson may fizzle. Remember how great Can Newton looked before disappearing
He didn't really disappear though. That's what I don't get - his stats this year are almost identical to his stats last year - he threw for 100 less yards, but he also threw 30 times less. He threw 2 fewer TDs but a lot fewer interceptions, had more rushing yards. Maybe his rushing TDs are where he slid, but that's about it. Cam may not have gotten any better, but he certainly didn't get a whole lot worse.

Dude you're high. SF "lost" ? Seriously? They got beast mode Anquan Boldin for a 6th rounder.

omg 33 years old!!

Did you watch him? Who cares how old he is. He doesn't play like Torrey Smith or Jacoby. He plays like Anquan. He gets jump balls and runs seam routes. Having to play under Cam Cameron all these years has probably added another 2 years to his career.

This is a spat over $2 million. There is nobody here to replace Q as a #1 guy, as a mentor to the WRs or as a leader on the offense. I would've rather seen Leach go and save 4.5 that way.

Yeah I'm glad we get some more cap room to play with, but come on. The odds of us finding anybody good in the 6th round are extremely slim to none.

Saying we will miss the playoffs is dumb
Acting surprised that they like the trade is silly
Especially considering how many of our players don't like seeing him leave.

Actually many felt if they kept the team in tact they'd win the sb simply because we wouldn't reach the sb again.
He, to many, was the biggest contributor to joes success in the playoffs. So by taken from us they weaken the reigning champs and they get stronger.

Before we were thinking he was gonna be released on his own, at least we have something out of him.

And honestly, Boldin lost his main motivation to FINALLY get that ring especially since he had the experience of being in the Super Bowl but then losing to the Steelers...
Now that it's been taken away, what else does he need to go for?

He's satisfied with his one ring, so he's not going to be the same Boldin who was beasting it out in the playoffs. He's not gonna be as thirsty to play hard as he was before.
And we've seen how Boldin could sometimes stop producing.

I wish the best of luck to him, but don't expect the 49ers to have gotten a steal is all I'm saying. Come this season, we'll see.

How old was our last 1,000 yard receiver?
Oh yeah, some 35 year old named Derrick Mason.

Don't kid yourself because you have to live in SF. We lost this trade big time.

Unless you started off with more than two, everyone is literally on their "last legs".

Can't wait to see what we do with our cap space. I hope we hold whatever we can for next season, though.

Only one way to tell... If someone on the Ravens roster can replace Q's productivity, the Ravens could get younger, pay much less AND pick up a 6th.. If that happens .... The Ravens win.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pitta is more of a slot guy and Joes go to.
I think that last part will hold true. I said a few weeks ago that if we lost Boldin, our offense could shift toward being a TE heavy passing game a la the Patriots. I think that with the right play calls and schemes, Dickson and Pitta especially could replace Boldin's production. Boldin's production does not have to be replaced by a receiver, but that could be preferable. We have two good tight ends; now we will be forced to put them both on the field more.

And stop calling Q a "rental" less than 24 hours after he's cut. Dudes a baller.
But that's what he is. This trade doesn't happen if Boldin was more than a year left on his contract. It's a fairly low risk move for SF. From our standpoint, it's clear that 2013 would've been his last season anyway.

The Ravens front office is good but they are overated by most. They got ripped for McGahee and carried a ton of dead money, carried a ton of dead money from the McNair deal. Overpaid Ngata, overpaid Flacco..... Just holding onto Boldin for another year would have netted the Ravens something higher than a 6th round pick in compensation. The 9ers got Boldin for free and will parlay that 6th round pick into a better pick if he leaves.

The 9ers pimp slapped this front office.

there so many things wrong with your post (like arnie would say lol), so i'll just concentrate on what i bolded (funny word huh) - one year older (close to be 34 at the beginning of next season), Q would've brought us zip in return - we were fortunate enough that Jim got scarred when he heard Harvin signed with Hawks and called John for a favour. Vikings who got the house in terms of picks from the Hawks, only offered a 7th this year. You do the maths now - what would've a team offered for Q next year?

Not even close... for all of this speculation on who got the better end of the deal... It won't be realized until next season. By the way.. Boldin was gonna get cut. The Ravens got a free 6th, gain 6 mil on the cap and this will allow them to be more fluid in signing either our own player or FA's. The only way this deal doesn't look good for the Ravens, is if a single guy or a collection of guys can't replace his production... What don't people understand? Same or a little less returns for millions cheaper AND getting a 6th equals a WIN. I have faith in the Ravens FO. They've been right on the money on players getting cut and having pieces in place to replicate the "lost" production.

Here is how I see this Boldin trade:
1. We got a free draft pick for nothing; we lost all trade value when we asked for a paycut.
2. We got a higher pick than any comp pick we would get; IIRC, the max comp you get for a player with more than a certain amount of years is a 5th. I am certain Boldin falls into this category.
3. We can use this pick and others to move up in other rounds, something that is lost here.
4. I do not think Boldin has the same year there as he did here. Boldin does not get open. Can he match a catch when covered? Absolutely. The problem is the QB has to believe that. Not sure Kaep will. It took Joe a while to buy in to that idea.

This was a good move.

Agree with all 4. And on #4, I think it goes much simpler .. can Kaepernick get him the ball when he's covered? Maybe he gets better at it this pre-season, but nothing he showed in the 5 or 6 games of his I watched last year says he can consistently get the ball to someone who is well covered. I could probably count on one hand the number of times I can remember seeing him throw to someone who wasn't clearly open. I guess we'll see when the season starts.

How in god's name is getting Boldin for a 6th round pick losing the trade? 6th round plugs get cut all the time, Boldin will contribute on the field. I'd say thats about as good of a deal SF can get considering they have the cap space for Boldin.

It was a great move for them and the system they run. That being said, they will only keep for a year. Boldin could have the same post season for the niners he had recently and they would still let him walk or retire.

There is value. But for every Chester Taylor there's a Cedric Peerman, for every Art Jones a Davon Drew, for every AD a Jason Phillips, for a Bart Scott a million UDFAs that don't make it out of the second week of TC.

Now Ozzie has done well the last 3 drafts, as I've stated, in the late rounds but he's had some draft picks that he's released before the start of season 1 as well.

There's no way, given SF's cap space, that giving up a 6th round pick for Anquan Boldin is a lose for SF. There just isn't.
