[News] Reports: Anquan Boldin Traded For Sixth-Round Pick

1,132 posts in this topic

this is a predicament that any team trying to contend is in. It costs money to field a competitive team, which we do every year. If you're Cleveland and you want to be awful every season then you can be 40 mil under the cap.

Yea we are the champs, but no thanks to him, really. Again if not for clutch receptions for first downs and last minute scores from bolden you would be speaking a whole other story. Shush Horus, who are you? You must have a pic of ozzie above your toilette seat.

here's a question for you then - Who brought Q to the Ravens?

What stinks the most about losing Boldin is the fact that we had to wait so long to finally get an OC that knew how to use him. The player we saw in the final 4 games is the player we should have seen all along. I know it's a business and we always seem to recover but this one hurts a little more than all the others (except maybe JJ). Boldin's style of play fit the Ravens perfectly and his locker room presence will be missed as well. But congrats to Boldin..at least he still gets paid and will have another shot at a ring...probably a better chance than if he were still with the Ravens.

who brought in jacoby jones in free agency. bernard pollard? vonta leach? who drafted flacco, t. smith, pitta, ellerbe was UNDRAFTED. How about Corey Graham? He was instrumental in our playoff run. How about Upshaw? Those are all winners. no thanks to the GM? the guy that brings in all of the players?

I think your right Numb. I shouldnt be so pissed about it. Maybe it is better for Q. Just think exactly what you said, he is or was a perfect fit for the ravens, and for Flacco.

What's the matter with you guys? We just won the Superbowl! Instead of enjoying it you are dwelling in your own misery about every little thing that doesnt go your way. We did it. We went all the way. Next year will be different and to think we are going to win the SB again is just plain naive so just enjoy spring and summer knowing that we ARE the reigning world champs. It's not easy to do. They will find a replacement for Boldin and Bryant and Kruger and possible Leach and so on. Will it be the same. No. It never is.

thanks Crabby. Nice to see someone who is appreciative of the fact that we just won the SUPER BOWL. Try being a Lions, Vikings, Bills, Bengals, Eagles, Titans, Browns, Cardinals, etc. fan.

again just my opinions, and with out my statements you probably wouldnt have anything to type right now and would close out this window. So your welcome. Tell me why do you think ozzie is sending boldin and reed to the 49ers? Any idea, what do we get from that other then a 6 round pick. Do you think maybe other teams would love to give up higher picks for two players such as reed and boldin? Please I would like to hear your Opinion.

Nobody really "likes" the Boldin trade. No one liked losing Heap, Grubbs, JJ, Redding, Mason, etc. But after losing them we won a superbowl. I know this is a place to vent our frustration, but whatever any of us think, Ozzie knows what he is doing. He has to live within the constaints of the cap and keep our team young enough to continue to contend. They will find replacements just like they did with Pollard, McKinnie, Leach, Jacoby, Graham in free agency and Torrey, Ossemele, Pitta, Webb, etc in the draft.
[profanity deleted] and moan, then take a deep breath and enjoy another winning season.

I just hope you guys are right and he is working some sort of magic, cuz Q was flaccos go to guy in the clutch. Very hard to find. Or, replace for that matter.

Actually I am feeling a bit better now. I just hope flacco doesnt feel the blunt end of this move next season and the media start chewing him up cuz he has no clutch reciever

FYI, I would rather not be typing about this right now. I just wanted to read the articles and I regret the fact that I scrolled down to the comments section.

Also, we are clearly trying to get younger to compete in the future. Paying a ton of money to guys in their 30s is not the way to get better each season. Anquan was the man, no doubt about it. But is he worth 6 mil? Not in my mind. If Ed Reed gets a huge contract somewhere else, let him go. We cannot afford to pay him like he is still in his 20s. He is clearly still a dangerous safety, but his best days are definitely behind him. I completely trust in Ozzie and I cannot wait to see what he has up his sleeve.

With no real protection on the left side and no clutch receiver where you can basically throw the ball up for grabs knowing he will come down with it....man Joe, you better get ready for a not so productive year and a serious pounding by defenses and every sports network in the nation. However I have faith that Ozzie has something else up his sleeve. I cant believe he would expose the most expensive NFL player in history to such a bad situation and beating on and off the field.

I'll give it a shot.

1. Reports state that the Ravens had other offers for Boldin from MIN and possibly others but that the 6th RP was the best offer.
2. The Ravens were not budging on Boldins requested pay cut and he was not budging either. They would have cut him today and received nothing so a 6th RP is better than nothing.
3. By trading Boldin he is going to receive his 6M this year and the contract will not be changed in SF. Had he been cut he would have had no contract and most likely would have signed for less on a new team but would have left out of principle.
4. By trading Anquan he keeps his pride by not being cut, being paid his salary, Ravens get a pick and everyone is sort of happy.

The Ravens actually did Boldin a solid and received a pick in the process.
It's not great but it's better than it could have been.

People believe Ozzie is the Oz (lol) but seriously sometimes management make decisions that aren't understood until much later. Sometimes management can make a bad decision and the whole organization has to pay for it and deal with it. One thing about this is once the decision is made, the ravens organization will have to deal with it and ultimately the whole team will either win or lose for the decision. Management don't always make the best decisions but it will be their fault if it doesn't work. Just sorry Anquan Boldin didn't have a real choice, he just wanted what to be paid fairly. I don't think that's too much to ask for Do you?

They still could have had the class to discuss with him the trade out of just plain respect. Maybe, Q would have went against flacco's advice and took the pay cut to stay. And flacco and others did tell boldin he should stick to his guns about the money. Instead Q while in africa doing something respectful finds out after the fact from the media. Reminds me of when they ____ over jamal.

Whatever.....dumb decision and plain out disrespectful the way it went down. I dont like ozzie newsome I think he is overrated. Hate me if you want. But, terrible decision with yet more to come. I love Joe, I have stuck with him from the beginning arguing with ppl when he was having bad times taking his side, stuck by him then, now and always will. He is an Elite QB. And, my favorite player, but, I dont think they should have gave him that much money. He is a winner no doubt about it, but I think they couldve offered 100 maybe 110 and joe wouldve took it. And they wouldnt be hustling right now. And I think Joe shouldve thought about his go to guy during the process. He doesnt even need 120 mil hes still eating at McD's and riding the fee bus. Everyone will and let me reiterate......Will regret the decisions recently made and forth coming. I hope Im wrong and we go back to back but, im not feeling it right now.

I hate losing Boldin just like everyone else. But with Ray gone, Birk gone, Boldin gone, Kruger gone, and very possibly Reed gone, WHO LEADS THIS TEAM??? What player is going to get into the face of another and push some buttons? Lets face it, it won't be Joe, he's just not programmed like that.....so I guess maybe Ellerbe? We need him signed today!!

RavensNation is not only classy. We're strong. Very strong. And, in this case, we MUST apply that strength to letting go. Sometimes it takes more strength to let go than to hold on. In doing so, don't just ACCEPT this loss. EXPECT better to come in replace of it. Heck, we may lose Ed Reed to these guys. But, keep in mind, at the core of our beloved Ravens, is the focus to keep getting BETTER. And, this (constantly getting better) we do. #reigningsuperbowlchamps #alwaysgettingbetter #invincible #noweaponincludessalarycaps

We could've traded Boldin for a 4th rd pick,But baltimore had to do something last minute,If im not mistaken,Since krugers gone,We could start Sergio kindel (2ND round draft pick),Hes had time to develope. As for Boldin we have talented recievers,Like Tandon Doss and Tommy Streeter,Streeter ran a 4.37 and he's 6'5,he just needs to work on his hands. If not we could pick up Jennings at the right price and Ed reed,I dont think he's goin anywhere, ozzie wont let him go. I see Joe Flacco or Ladarius Webb as the leaders now,Ravens will be good this season.

Genius!!

Let's look at the big picture here. Bolden walks because of free agency status. Cleveland(makes ridiculous offer, New England counters, Pittsburgh jumps in hoping BB looks good to Bolden as QB, and just for the sake of entertainment, the Jets jump in like Horshack and say "ooo ooo Mr. Bolden pick us, PICK US!!" But no Marvelous Marvin Swoops in and snaps him up Like cookies on Christmas. Now you gotta deal with him being pissed at Ozzie and he's in the division!! See the potential there??

At least now he got some love, respect and he he is waay out of our hair, and out of Belichiks clutches or Lewis or Tomlins.

Genius.
