Ozzie apparently had an interesting interview with Peter King on TheMMQB.com about all of his pre-season moves. Here's a quote from Ozzie on the Boldin trade:

“I took a safety net from Joe [Flacco], and I’m well aware of that. I’ve been a safety net for Brian Sipe and Bernie Kosar, so I understand what he’ll be missing.”

And here is the corresponding PFT article:

It made the team better as a whole.

Boldin isn't Calvin Johnson.

He was a big reason why we won the damn thing, but he can be replaced.

Newsome is making up lies to cover up the terrible mistake he knows he made by letting Boldin leave. Tell the truth, you could have kept Boldin if your primadonna QB didn’t want the money all for himself. Newsome=Idiot

Haha PFT commenters are so miserable. Newsome and King break down some of the inner workings of a contender and all they have to say is 'herp, derp Joe Flacco sucks' and 'dur, Ravens suck'.

Does anyone know if the Ravens had to cut anyone to sign Stokley and Clark?

Marcus Rivers was cut for Stokley. A move hasn't been made for Clark yet since he hasn't officially signed, just came to an agreement.

The way veteran minimum deals work is that generally don't have any guaranteed money in them, but if they are on the roster Week 1 then their salary becomes guaranteed. That's why often you will see vets get cut near the end of preseason and then resigned after Week 1.

Thanks. I haven't seen any details on the signings, so I wasn't sure if they were like Shiancoe's veteran minimum deal or if we did something silly like a two-year deal.

I'm pretty sure Shaincoe, Clark, and Stockley are all 1-year vet min deals.

Ah, thanks for that. I'm glad it wasn't anyone I was rooting for.

Now it's clear who Raven Fans give Credit to for the miraculous rebuild...OR who to blame if it all unravels.

Not with the current cast of characters!

Ozzie thinks otherwise.

So sorry if I'm going to trust a two time SB champion GM over a fan that would trade Rice to get Boldin back.

So wait, we lose Boldin and Pitta and the SB is now a no go?

We got viable replacements lol. As good as Boldin and Pitta are, they're not all pros lol

What's hilarious is it was locked almost immediately, but it is still getting negged lol. It was like -5 after the lock and has now gotten to -17. Such a fail.

Ya, I got off mobile just to neg it. It was deserving.

How anyone could suggest trading a premier RB in his prime for a very good but aging and slow WR that has only a couple of years left in his tank is beyond me. When you also consider that if this RB was in the West Coast offense instead of the current offensive scheme he would probably put up the monster numbers that Faulk and Holmes enjoyed in their day it puts into better perspective what the Ravens would be giving up. Of course I am sure he doesn't see it that way. Just goes to show that there is no debating a person who sees things through their heart and not through their head.

I think the "Neg Factor" has risen to -27 on that post. But high negatives probably don't mean much to that particular poster. The post appeared to suggest that management failed to appreciate that Boldin was as valuable to the team as Ray Rice, yet even more problematic to replace. What will an immense body of negative opinion from that post reveal if both the Raven receiving game and ability to convert 3rd downs passing crashes and burns? Not so much of those opining negatively, but of the poster that suggested Boldin was likely more valuable?

I can't wait for all the people who go nuts when we lose a close game after a receiver makes a mistake. People will blindly and loudly blame the Q trade and conveniently fail to realize that we might have been blown out of said game were it not for the revamped defense made possible by the loss of Boldin's contract. I'm not saying it will happen, but our sack leader, TFL leader, interception leader and tackle leader might well be four different players that we picked up with the cap space saved with that trade. That's Ozzie. I trust him.

We've signed so many good players for peanuts this year I'm amazed anyone is still complaining about the Boldin trade or whatever. So many players...

The Key will be the wins that result from that trade. Imagine for a moment if the wins don't come.

I just have to imagine we have a better chance at getting those wins after the trade. If we don't get a bunch of wins, I think we will still end up with more than we would have without it.

I think the way you need to look at is what type of defense would we have if we hadn't made that trade. With all the losses we sustained from last years defense chances are very good we are nowhere the 17th ranking we enjoyed last year (25th or worse?) You don't win many games with a defense like that unless you have a very explosive team. And even with Boldin and Pitta in there we weren't that explosive of a team to offset the shortcomings that a bad defense like that would have given us.

My only question is deciding to keep Jacoby over Q. Jones would have given us like 4M if we released him, but I guess he is too valuable as a RS. If he doesn't actually return kicks this year then I will be Pissed.

Regardless of what happens with the passing game this year, in no conceivable scenario is a receiver with one year left on his contract worth more to the team than a pro bowl running back in his prime. Your premise is fundamentally flawed. Continuing to beat the dead horse while hiding behind third person rhetoric does not change that.
