what's taking so long? Boldin?.......sign Harrison already Oz!

I knoowww I feel like we're not even talking to anyone except guys on our practice squad. How hard is it to sit down with reed, and be like heres 4 - 4.5 mill take it or leave to houston. Do the same with Harrison but like 3mill, We also either need to sign mcKinnie or take a LT with our first, or trade up in the second or something.

I might be in the minority in this, but I don't want to sign Harrison, and it has nothing to do with his attitude, dirty play, etc. I don't want to sign him because I don't think we NEED him. Even if he's a bargain, I'd rather spend the money on a bargain at safety or on the O-line. Don't get me wrong, he would certainly be an upgrade if he plays the way we've seen him play over the years as a 3rd down sub for Upshaw, who still needs to develop as a pass rusher. I'm sure he would play with a chip on his shoulder and try to show the Steelers they made a mistake (and his anger could result in him being a nightmare when we play Pittsburgh this year, which would almost make this worth it). I just don't see a big hole at that position that we need to spend our limited money on at this point.

You don't think we need at least another pass rusher?

I think we can use another pass rusher, and it will help, but I don't think we absilutely need one. We haven't really had a ton of pass rushers in the past few years, and the end results have worked out ok.

That's debatable. Often when we have lacked a pass rush, it has left our secondary vulnerable and exposed. A quality pass rush can make an average secondary a lot better than it really is.

We definitely need to add someone across from Suggs. Whether that's Harrison, Dumervil, another FA or a rookie through the draft, we need someone. It would be nice to see Adrian Hamilton or Michael McAdoo step up, but we can't count on that.

On the topic of adding a pass rusher I love the idea. Really. But I would much rather take a pass rusher in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th than sign an expensive guy. It really depends on what price. If he's cheap, why not bring him here? If he's expensive, then no. If we can get Harrison for 2M/yr, that's a great deal. You have to take that.

I seen the Ravens were on the list of teams that could sign him. That possibly he would take a fair salary just to reck some havoc on the Steelers for cutting him. I think it would be awesome Suggs and Harrison, man that would be nasty IF they both are healthly. So, could this possibly be a guy the Ravens might actaully sign? or will he command to much of the a;readly limited salary cap?
yes harrison will come cheap and we need the help on defense

I hope he does not become a Raven. I have been cheering against him for so many years that I would find it hard to cheer for him instead but it does go deeper than that. I am an animal lover and I travel with a pitbull for a living. With me everyday at all times. Only a few exceptions the past couple of years (like the Broncos game in Jan., because they are banned in Denver even for visiting). And James Harrison has been accused of abusing his animals before. Not like Michael Vick, but still. I'm sure most of the people here are aware of what happened a couple of years ago with him and his pitbull. I may be jumping the gun a bit and talking without knowing the whole story but in general a person that is cruel to animals is a cruel human in general. Once again I may be mistaken but his dog that seriously hurt his child has been nothing but wonderful according to the new owner. Feel free to delete if I am violating any rules.

Harrison was never accused of animal abuse.
Yes the dog became agitated with Harrison's two year old child, it wasn't because the dog was abused by Harrison or his family. In reading the incident Harrison actually kept the dog from getting euthanized and worked it out so the dog could go to a top training facility before being adopted by the new owner.

And if he did, who cares? It's a freaking dog not a human. Some folks put more value on a dog than on human lives.

I think with the Elvis snafu, we are putting Harrison on the back burner and seeing if we can bring Dumervil to Baltimore.

The reason we havn't heard anymore news is because we can't get any deal done until Boldin passes his physical, we are still accounted for his salary until he is officially a 49er

NFL.com is reporting Harrison's agent might have exaggerated teams having an interest in him and that the market is very cold for him right now

He should have taken the money Pittsburgh was offering. These guys let their egos interfere with smart business decisions.

Got a lot colder with the snafu in Denver as well; making Mr. Dumervil the most sought after pass rusher
in FA. He also slammed the door shut in Pittsburgh; what with all the dead money he cost them. He is
not going to be negotiating with anyone from a position of strength. Older FAs are having a real hard time this
offseason.

I kind of prefer Harrison. We can get him for cheap and he was productive on a defense, that isn't as loaded as that of the Denver Broncos, imho.

Harrison/Huff/Reed > Dumer
I like where your head is. I still think that combination is a little more than we can afford, unless we make another cut or two of course. Maybe more likely would be Dansby/Huff/Reed. Our MLB spot is much more in need of depth, and perhaps even a starter. Rushing the passer is always the sexier want, but maybe not as much of a need at the moment. It all depends on what falls to us in the draft, as well. We also have to address the LT issue any way we can, and add some more depth on the O-line.
