Anquan Boldin Traded to the San Francisco 49ers

A sad day in ravens history

O well I'm over it time for young guys to step up

I couldn't find anything that's breaking news on this.

There's speculation of this possibly happening which would send me into a horrible rampage of non stop punching the air and screaming.

Hes more than likely talking about the "reports" that "broke" all day today. He's a little behind and thinks hes breaking news here. Play along!

i was on Facebook. Yes I know it's not the most reliable source but it said 49er insiders say niners and reed are close

No one would be talking about Boldin like this if he was still a Raven, so all of a sudden talking as though he's now just a slow, old worthless receiver just because he's not on our team anymore is the same kind of cliche nfl fan hypocrisy that we make fun of any other team's fans for doing. Its kind of embarrassing guys. I get that every nfl team fan base is the exact same in that they all have every type of fan, but seeing it play out first hand is weird.

Agreed. The discounting of what this man did on the field, around Baltimore, rocking the O's hat, being quiet when underutilized etc should not be!

I see -nothing- new in what people have been saying. It's the same thing people on these forums have always said about Q. Is he fast? Does he get seperation? No one is saying he's worthless ... they are just saying people are trying to think with their hearts over their heads. The Ravens have a LOT of pieces they need to put together and paying Q $6million this year does not allow them to do that.

People want to blame the Ravens for only taking a 6th round pick, did it ever occur to anyone that only two teams were willing to make offers on him and those two offered a 6th and a 7th round? What were they supposed to do? Force people? They had ZERO leverage. The minute you start shopping him around, EVERYONE knows you are either going to trade him or cut him, nothing else.

Apparently, he is valued at a much higher level by his fans (as it should be) than by the business minds of the NFL.

The sad part is I really think Q was about to have his best season as a Raven now that Jim is OC and actually started calling routes that played to Q's strengths. I don't think it's a mistake that he had almost 500 yards receiving in his last 5 games under Jim (all but the first Broncos game).

No one is discounting what he did for the Ravens. I've seen nothing but love for the man and calling him a beast in the playoffs. Just because some of us understand not taking a $7.5 mil cap hit for a WR on the backside of 30 that struggled to get separation from #2 coverage and is only going to give you one more year doesn't mean we're discounting him. We're merely understanding the business side of it. There is a big difference. You can't argue the separation factor. Sure he made up for it by fighting for contested balls, we all know that, but it just isn't a different situation than Mason & Heap. It is exactly the same minus a SB appearance. That is the only thing making this situation different but that SB win does not change the business side of it come off season. Love Boldin. Wish he could have finished his time here. It just isn't going to have that fairy tale ending.

Great perspective, just not what all have said of him. FO wanted to reduce his salary by $2M and he said no. Dont blame him. I can honestly say without him this year, we dont win the SB. I truly believe that.

I agree with everything you said. It's just a bummer that he's awesome (for some) up until he gets cut and all of the sudden he's a has been.

It's just people trying to find some reason to rationalize why we made the move. Nobody wants to believe we actually gave up a big time player for a very low draft pick, so they tell themselves Boldin was done anyway. He's been fantastic, and if it wasn't for Cam (as evidenced by what Q did after Caldwell took over) he would have done even more in his 3 years here. But if it makes people feel better to bash him early on, let them vent. In a week everyone will be talking about how great he was with us.

Should be interesting to see how the other Harbaugh utilizes him and Randy Moss.

Moss is done in SF. Maybe the NFL altogether. Again.

You're dead on with this. On numerous occasions throughout the year, fans were questioning Boldin's ability given his inability to get consistent separation from opposing corners. Someone mentioned how Talib was shutting him down before pulling his hammy in the AFC championship, that was certainly the case. He absolutely beasted in the playoffs but that's still the truth about him. The talk about him being on the decline is not a product of the trade or trying to put him down as a means to lessen the emotional blow of losing such a great player.

Also the compensation we got was a plus given the situation we were in.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us make another under-the-radar signing or trade and make us all forget about this

So, I've been off reading postings by 40-Whiners fans all over the net (Twitter, forums, NFL.com, ESPN, etc).

I HOPE Q plays really well for them. I seriously like Q and the way they are pumping it up, he's the re-incarnation of Moss in his prime. If he doesn't play all year like he played in the playoffs (and I have serious doubts about CK being able to utilize him correctly), they are going to dog him hard and that'll just be sad.
