Anquan Boldin Traded to the San Francisco 49ers

Hope these rumors aren't true if anyone deserves to get paid this year it is Boldin.

Kind of wish we shaved a mill or two off of Haloti's contract now

I would rather keep Boldin and Reed... Ellerbe seems to be a bit selfish....

Would any of you be willing to take a chance on Larry Grant? A cheap jack of all trades LB who can do it all. Would start for most teams

agree. however, keeping ellerbe is better in the long term. losing reed and boldin would be a crushing blow to this team, not only in production but also in leadership/intangibles. don't think Torrey is ready to step up as no 1 reciever just yet and the FS market looks a little depleted IMO. as promising as ellerbe may seem, he might be easier to replace.

eehhhhh I don't know all about that, Lee Evans isn't on our team anymore and most of our guys can catch. Doss had that one really bad game against the Colts, but outside of that most guys can catch.

i like laquan williams but every time i mention him the negatives come out . doss i only remember him playing the colts and the misses in the superbowl i don't recall him playing much.

In listening to alot of Ellerbe's player interviews over the past several weeks, it appears the closer we get to free agency Ellerbe's attitude has definately changed. He appears to be listening to the wrong ears and I think he is getting an inflated sense of his worth. Don't get me wrong, Ellerbe is a good player, but that is just it, he is good, not great. I hate to think of us losing a player of Boldin's caliber from overpaying a player with durability issues. If we had a stronger front seven, the LB position wouldn't nearly be as important.

Ellerbe has potential to be great tho. I can see why he wants that much, he sees how good he can be.... But I would rather have Boldin and Reed and bring in a guy like Larry Grant

Not sure what negative things people can say about Laquan. He wasn't really that bad his rookie year with the small amount of playing time he had.

This is Ellerbe's first (and possibly only) chance at a big payday. As much as I'd like to keep him, if he gets offered megabucks by another team, I'll wish him well (except for when he plays us). He was instrumental in us making and winning the playoffs/Super Bowl.

As long as he doesn't go to PIT

You guys don't get it. It's not just about the money. That's a big part of it.

I will make this real simple as to why the Ravens would want Boldin to take a paycut or get released:

1.) Depth of Position: Torrey Smith, Tandon Doss, Tommy Streeter, LaQuan Williams, Deonte Thompson, & David Reed are all under contract or can receive a tender (ERFA or RFA).

2.) Cost: Boldin costs us 6M in base salary. We're tight against the cap. We have quite a few needs.

3.) Depth of Draft: there are many talented WRs in this class who could upgrade or come close to Boldin's production.

4.) Future Contracts: this is last but it's not the least. A lot of us do not seem to recognize that we have Torrey Smith, Dennis Pitta, JJ, Michael Oher, Ed Dickson all coming due as FA on the offensive side of the ball. How do you we propose we pay for those players? That's not counting guys like Corey Graham, Jimmy Smith, Art Jones, Pernell McPhee, Chykie Brown, etc.

I hope we can keep Boldin like the next guy, but look at those four factors and really look at the team as a whole. If we can extend guys like Pitta, JJ, Oher, etc. we can save money in future years. Whether we want to admit it or not, Boldin is on the decline. He is not the same player despite his awesome performance to lead us to a Super Bowl. I would take extending Pitta & keeping Ed Reed over Anquan Boldin and I have a #81 Nike Super Bowl 47 jersey.

I really think there is a good chance Ellerbe may join Kruger & Williams as FAs who do not return in 2013.

I know we need cap space but this is a major slap in the face of Q. As great as Joe was, we wouldn't have even come close to our goal without Q going up and fighting on every amazing catch he made this postseason. I honestly don't know how all of the specifics with the cap work but I figured it would be completely feasible to give him his 6 million salary as some type of bonus for carrying our receiving corps and sign him to a completely new 2 or 3 year deal that is more cap friendly. I really hope our front office isn't dropping the ball on this just for a little extra wiggle room. There is no replacement on our roster or in the draft for Anquan right now and any free agent who we try to bring in to have the same impact as Boldin will likely want more than 6.8 million this year. I love Torrey and Jacoby and I still think Doss, Thompson, and Streeter can still continue developing but none of those guys are ready and with how streaky Torrey and Jacoby were at times last year (I know this had as much to do with Cam as anything), giving Anquan this ultimatum not only feels wrong but I simply don't think our roster is prepared to move on without him this season as it currently stands.

I love Q and I really want him back. That being said, if someone else can be ALMOST as good for way less cap hit, then the writing is on the wall.

We are $12 Million under the cap right? How many RFAs do we have? We should be able to keep Boldin even after all the RFA signings.

He's also the slowest WR in the NFL...how many TDs did he score last regular season?

Q's definately not the slowest, not even close.

Pitta, Dickson, Reed, Harewood, Jones, Cox. I think that's it. We could re-sign Cox for a cheap deal. Shouldn't be much. Reed & Harewood are guys who we might risk not tendering and re-signing cheaper. Jones, Dickon & Pitta would need tenders. I'd rather extend Pitta or Jones than tender, though.

We have about 10 ERFAs too.

Oh boy, apparently Boldin rejected the Ravens offer for a pay cut. Looks like he is gone and we'll have an extra 6 million in cap space. Though talks are ongoing, it doesn't look good. Sounds like he is going to retire unless he goes back on his word of retiring if he got cut.

The guy who balls out is asked to take a pay cut. I can think of a few other guys with higher cap number who should be asked and I'm looking at Ngata.

I will be so mad and disappointed if we lose Q he is the reason Flacco became the highest paid player in the NFL and he is one of the main reasons we won the SB or even made it there !!! How do you put your team on your back and ball out through the whole playoffs and then be at risk to get released next year this is ridiculous!!! I understand we are short on money and cap space but release somebody else not the MAN who played one of the biggest roles in us winning everything !!! I better read in the next few days that we worked out everything and he's gonna be back !!!!

I'm stating to wish he will. There were always questions about his work ethic and comments he has made recently make me believe he will take the highest offer no matter what. I'm not sure how he will react to big money without Ray here to keep him in line.

Plus, Ellerbe is an injury risk. Sure he played through most of those injuries this year but there always seems to be something bothering him. We still have McClain (assuming his spinal cord injury is taken care of) and this is a deep MLB draft class.

I wouldn't be depressed is some bad team overpaid for Ellerbe.

If Boldin leaves, that frees up $6 million in cap space, so to me if that is the case I can see both Ellerbe and Reed re-signing.

major slap to Q's face if anyone is worth that 6mil salary boldin is. There has to be a way to keep him. wish we would tender our RFA's so we know how much cap we left then decide on Q

That article made it seem like he would go someplace else. Hopefully it will be to a team we won't play for a few years. Although a Boldin/Webb matchup would be fun to watch.

What most people don't understand, is that only bad teams pay players for what they have done in the past. Good teams realize when it's time to move on, we did it with Mason, we did it with Heap, we may do it with Boldin. I understand people want him back, but sometimes you have to sit back and realize how foolish it really is to cling to vain pedigrees and past glories.
