Ravens prepared to make "significant offer" to Dannell Ellerbe before free agency opens.
Get it down Ozzie! That also tells us that Kruger is gone. Thanks for everything Paul.
Glad you got a ring, best of luck to you.

I like Ellerbe, but would have preferred Kruger.
No way. Ellerbe is a must sign. Kruger played well as a pass rusher with the players he had around him. I think he's more replaceable than Ellerbe. We can't lose Ray and Ellerbe in one season.

Agreed. Kruger was a product of playing next to Suggs. Once Suggs came back and demanded double teams, Kruger was free 1 on 1. He's not a 3-down player, either. He only played something like 20 snaps in the Super Bowl. He does get his sacks, but it has a lot to do with the players around him. If Kruger was half the price, then he's a must-keep.

the Ravens expect Kruger to draw so much interest elsewhere that they are unable to make an offer that could come close to what they are expecting he getsJust read the following Tweet from Ravens:

In a perfect world I think we all would. But Kruger is expected to get a crazy deal even though he plays only on passing downs, a deal Baltimore simply can't match. If you eliminate Kruger from the equation entirely, Ellerbe is without a doubt the next guy in line in terms of importance.I like Ellerbe, but would have preferred Kruger.
Plus at ILB right now we have, McClain (mangled neck/spine), Bynes and Ayenbadejo. In essence no starters. At OLB we have 2 starters returning. So that also makes a difference.

just heard 1057 say kruger is looking for a deal in area of 5yrs 60mil.
Way way way out of reach!!! We couldn't even afford that if we let Ellerbe and Reed go.

Kruger & Williams are both most likely gone.
I think if Dannell turns down our offer, we move on to Ed Reed immediately. We don't seem to wait around for guys to make decisions. I will make a bold prediction: either Jameel McClain or Dannell Ellerbe won't be Ravens next year.

There would be noo way the Ravens could keep Paul Kruger,,,he is going to get a mega deal once free agency opens. He is probably the #1 FA on everyone's board haha. And I think Ozzie is ready for Courtney Upshaw to be the next man up and take over the OLB position. Oz also made it clear he is looking hard at pass rushers in the draft so I think we will be OK at OLB. If we dont resign Ellerbe there will be a glaring need for ILB, and Ellerbe has been pretty good if he can stay healthy, and he is a strong guy and can play through injuries when he needs to as well.I like Ellerbe, but would have preferred Kruger.

Im pretty sure Jameel Mcclain hit the FA market last year too before we signed him to a new deal and some teams looked at him. We have been negotiating with Ellerbe since the combine and talks were reported to have gone well, so I think he will be resigned. If he does get loose Im not sure what his market will look like, he may end up getting overpaid by a LB desperate team. And Ellerbe isnt expecting a huge deal like Grubbs was last year...Grubbs was kind of like how Kruger is this year in that he was expecting a big pay day. I think we have enough dough to offer Ellerbe a good enough offer to stay.Last year, Harbs said we would make a significant offer to Grubbs. He left for what equaled 1M less a year. We'll see if Ellerbe does the same. I think if Ellerbe hits FA, he is gone. I think we will know in a few days whether or not Ellerbe returns.

nothing against Grubbs but he rejected an offer similar to Yanda's... happy we found KO
agree on Kruger and Williams
I think McClain is likely to be on IR and his contract re-done

McClain & Ellerbe have an entirely different scenario. In my opinion, you cannot compare their FAs. Yes, McClain did hit FA but it was a very good market for ILB last year. He also wasn't spectacular but solid. Finally, Ellerbe is coming off a Super Bowl win & had a big part in it. McClain, while he played well, our defense didn't suffer until we lost Ellerbe.Im pretty sure Jameel Mcclain hit the FA market last year too before we signed him to a new deal and some teams looked at him. We have been negotiating with Ellerbe since the combine and talks were reported to have gone well, so I think he will be resigned. You can spin it however you want, but Ellerbe has a lot more leverage than McClain had and it's not even close. I don't think it's guaranteed Ellerbe is back. I'd like him back if it's a fair deal for us. I don't think Dannell is worth 5M a year, though. That's a lot of money for an injury-prone player. I'd give Ellerbe 4-4.5M a year. I know that's only 0.5-1M difference, but that's still a significant difference over the course of a contract.
As I said: I think we'll know Ellerbe's fate when he hits FA or if he does. In a weak LB FA market, he's easily a top prospect to get.
