Rolando McClain probably going to be released

I know some of you aren't sold on him.. but I really think he will be a cheap, solid option. Would fill a major need and could be a huge upgrade.

His lazy, has history of not participating in TC and his been in minor trouble few times.

Maybe he'll get dazzled by our winning organization @ first, but If we're on bad streak he'll drop and dissapear.

I'll make it 2-2 in the whole sign him/don't sign him deal. I know many don't like him due to his off the field history but he is still young, and would be a cheap option. We won't have to give him a big deal compared to Ellerbe, and I still am hoping Ellerbe gets re-signed, don't get me wrong. We can still draft another ILB but have a training camp competition to see who our starting ILBs will be. If Rolando doesn't work out and can't keep up with the other ILBs, we can always cut him in training camp.

Wasn't his gig supposed to be a 3-4 ilb? And knowing this, the Raiders drafted him and basically tried to force a round peg into a square hole by utilizing him as a 4-3 backer?

I personally would love to see this guy here, on a shorter term contract. You want more money? Play your butt off and earn it.

I wouldn't judge anybody by their play in Oakland alone. He could certainly be better elsewhere, whether it's here or not.

It depends really. I don't see the harm in bringing him in for TC and see what happens. I don't want to be on the hook for even $1 if we release him at that time though.

I just think he's too young to be considered a completely lost cause just yet. Even if we don't, I hope a decent organization gives him one more chance before the Jets decide to take him.

i don't see any harm in signing him for really cheap. ik he's gotten into some trouble in the past, but he says that he's great at the game/willing to work hard etc. just let him prove it i guess.

I would bring him here depending on the contract. He might need a change of scenery. Perhaps a winning atmosphere will change his attitude. It isn't easy to always lose, eventually it brings you do. I think McClain's a frustrated & immature football player who came from a college pedigree built on championships with a coach who understood how to get the best out of them.

I'm not saying if he comes here he will be a new man. You are who you are. What I am saying is that a positive & winning environment foster success. You are who you due to your environment & surroundings as much as you are due to your personality.

Bring him here on a cheap 2-year deal.

Edit: I remember people saying they didn't want McKinnie here. He turned out OK--not great, his attitude is still there, but winning can bring out the best in you sometimes.

Having Ray and Ed here helped. Altho outside the playoffs, his second year was a massive failure.

I know. I just think "Why not?". I mean, he's worth a shot. If it's a cheap deal, if there's no guaranteed money or little guaranteed, what does it hurt? As I said, he is a competitor. Perhaps the lack of winning finally got to him. I do not think he is a great player. He has underperformed and isn't/wasn't worthy of his draft status, but I won't turn away from a talent for that reason alone.

I'd give him a shot. That's all. The same shot that Bynes, Carr, and all the others we brought here had.

Up to the FO. They'll know who is the best fit for us. Im sure if Rolando isn't picked up even for a bargain price...well there's your answer.

Why did they help him? Because they knew him well from their days in Miami. Who are two of the upmost respectable players we have as far as character in the locker room? Courtney Upshaw and Terrence Cody who both played with Rolando on the same defense. They would be incredible influences on him IMO (especially Courtney). Ozzie knows Rolando well and I'm sure Rolando has a lot of respect for the guy.
