Jared Gaither released by the Chargers. Might not be a bad pickup if he's cheap... I think the Raven's coaching staff can get him back to form...

huff. i think we got him!
[/quote]

Based on what? He's got visits planned both in Baltimore and Greenbay. Granted...once he walks into the Under Armor facility, we've got the edge, but if you have further info how about a link?

No way! He's used up all his chances here. The Chargers are taking a $6 million cap hit just to get rid of him.

Still may be a good invite to camp if he's unsigned.....he may still have something left to offer....

During the course of the "retire Reed's number" debate I made a statement that just because a guy's a HOFer doesn't automatically equate to retiring his number and vice versa! To that end, I used the Baltimore Colts as an example!

Somebody, can't remember who, tried to play a "Gotcha" and corrected something I posted! That's cool,... but to squash the argument whether HOF automatically equates to retiring a number, here's a chart of Baltimore Colts whose numbers were retired! The (*) indicates HOF members!

Buddy Young had his number retired, did not make the HOF!

John Mackey and Ted Hendricks made the HOF but did not have their numbers retired!

Num Player
19 Johnny Unitas *
22 Buddy Young
24 Lenny Moore *
70 Art Donovan *
77 Jim Parker *
82 Raymond Berry *
89 GIno Marchetti *

Therefore, induction into the HOF and retiring of a number by a team are not mutually exclusive; you can do one without the other!

Here are some helpful links for understanding Free Agency, the Salary Cap, and rookie salaries (& the Cap):

The Draft starts April 25th. RFA's Pitta & Dickson have until April 19 to sign offer sheets from another team [whick we can then match before the Draft starts]. [If we don't match, we get that team's 2nd (Pitta) round or 3rd (Dickson) round picks in THIS Draft.] As of now, we have twelve picks: four compensatory picks in rounds 4-7 (which can't be traded), our own picks rounds 1-7, plus another 6th rounder (Boldin).

All players must have signed contracts in order to participate in OTA's and Camp. The Ravens have until July 22 or the first day of Camp (whichever is later) to sign the UFA's [must be offered tenders by June 1st] - or we lose them, period.

Look for a major trade from Ozzie before the draft. We have big cap problems in 2014 and still need LT,Pitta&Dickson signed. We will trade the 32 nd pick for a high 2nd&5th rounder or a later 2nd and later 3rd rounder this year. Only way we keep 32 if Ogletree falls that low.

Can we have a rumor about Rolando McClain or Charles Woodson? Woodson was directly asked if the Ravens expressed any interest in him thus far... he said "no." McClain may be interested in a fresh start. I bet we could get either for cheap...

If Rolando McClain does come in, that would make a pretty big shift of need for the Ravens team at this point. LT would be our biggest need from that point, following SS, NT(assuming Ngata goes back to that and we just need a back up to challenge Cody). and then C. May be able to even move up if needed and steal a player(Ozzy has done it before).

Well...what does this say about the possibility of McClain returning? This guy has been a disaster off the field, but reading other articles suggests he is ready to settle down. If this is true I hope so.

I an extremely happy about signing McClain. I wanted us to get him in the draft. This is perfect for the Ravens. Now we can trade out of the first round and have 2nd round picks using them on Eric Reid (I would love him) or DeAndre Hopkins (this would be a steal) and still get Jesse Williams or a pass rusher. This is a perfect situation!

And for those who are worried about off the field issues, has that really been an issue with this organization before?

Now we can trade our 1st 4th and 5th round pick to the Titans so we can get Lane Johnson. That would still give us 10 and we would move up 22 spots in the first round to get an elite LT

Its a good pick up. (R. Mclain) On the field he is a solid ILB and He is young. Off the field issues will be cleaned up. Our orginization is strong on we have a locker room the practices brotherhood. The Raiders could not offer that. Oh and we win!!!!

I'm glad to see the Ravens at least kick the tires on R. McClain. He has definitely had some off the field issues since he was drafted, but hopefully being on a competitive team with a number of fellow 'bama players will keep him focused. The Raiders have been one of the worst organizations over the last decade and I think many players lose focus when playing there. That's not an excuse for his poor decisions, but it may explain some of his discontent with the overall direction of things there. If he were signed he would certainly add athleticism and size to the ILB position. ALso, if there is cap room left, Dansby could be brought in to mentor him. It would be nice to go into the draft without any glaring needs and he would at least fill part of the ???s at ILB.

I called this last week, we need him got a bunch of negative remarks. but this guy is solid on the field, still young. not even in his prime. who cares if he has off the field issues. Besides NE & US who else can turn around the troubled kids better, no body.

Since we won't need Olgletree, Minter, or Teo if we grabbed McClain then why not - I like it.

Rolando!!!!!!! Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If we're able to get this kid under contract this will be one of the greatest moves of the offseason. The kid's talent CANNOT be doubted. His off the field issues can possibly be attributed to a very weak organization/locker room. At the very least, with his skillset and talent we would be foolish not to give him a shot; if financially possible of course. Once again, Kudos Ozzie on your knack for identifying talent.
