With the remaining cap space, we should ignore our free agents and go sign Jake Long. Protect Flacco's blindside after you just paid him all that money.
[/quote]

I feel the most important priority is at left tackle, we can't ignore safety and inside linebacker, but we can prioritize those positions.

I could see signing Long if Jake is cleared by the team doctors. I believe Long could be had for 5 years 40 mil.

The other priorities would be at free safety and inside linebacker, We might have to release Jacoby Jones and/or Vonta leach to fill ILB and FS, depending on the value of those contracts.

Don't think we have the $$$ for Long. If we did get him, I would send Michael Oher packing on a one-way trip to a team like the Jets.

Apparently his market isn't quite as hot as he thinks it is. The injury concerns are greater than they have been reported it would seem.

As much as it would pain me, I would cut JJ & Leach to restructure Boldin. I would then try to sign Delanie Walker if possible for around the same as Leach got. I would then restructure/extend Boldin for another 3 years & then not tender David Reed but work out a very small deal with him.

You have to make tough choices. Next year our 2011 class will be RFAs (those on 3yr deals if any), and that won't be easy to keep them. Some guys have to go.

Our FA class actually isn't that bad next year.

UFAs:
Anquan Boldin - possibly extended this year
Terrence Cody - will likely walk next year
Corey Graham - TBD
Jacoby Jones - possibly extended this year
Vonta Leach - possibly cut or extended this year
Michael Oher - team wants to re-sign
Bobbie Williams - will be cut this year

Add in Arthur Jones and Dennis Pitta who may or may not get extensions this year, and we're not in bad shape.

Pretty much everyone in the 2011 draft class signed 4 year deals so we won't have to worry about them yet.

Why would we cut the best punt/kick return guy in the league and a good WR cut your guys like Doss, streeter, thompson. Just silly and dumb jacoby saved the ravens more than once. Get rid of proven talent to keep lesser?

I think '11 is when all drafted rookie deals were required to have 4yr deals, eliminating RFAs except for UDFAs.

Anyway, I don't know. I don't think we can keep JJ & Boldin unless they take really cheap deals.

It's about cost. Doss, Streeter, and Thompson cost very little. Jacoby Jones has a big cap hit when we have so many holes to fill.

With that being said, I doubt he'll be cut.

We very rarely cut guys on rookie deals. Very rarely. We usually hold onto our draft picks until their deals expire. That's how we operate. I can see Thompson or Williams. But do you honestly think JJ is guaranteed to return? I love Jacoby. He's awesome. But I can see the reason to cut him to save cash.

Return men are some of the most frequent who burn out quickly. They can be hot one year then cold as ice the next.

I'm just looking at our free agent class and I feel like most issues will be handled this year.

Boldin, Jacoby, Leach, and Bobbie Williams will likely all get their situations handled this year.

Pitta and Jones may also get their deals, but they may choose to wait for them.

When it comes down to it, I think the Ravens may only be looking to deal with Graham and Oher next year, plus whoever doesn't get handled this year.

Yeah, but here's my thing:

Anquan Boldin, Jacoby Jones, Torrey Smith, Tandon Doss, Tommy Streeter, David Reed, LaQuan Williams Deonte Thompson, and any WR we may draft this year make up our current WR corps. Boldin & Jones are on the final year of their deal. While I like Boldin, he's older. While I like Jacoby, he's had one great year as a kick-return specialist and is a really valuable weapon because he can be used on punts & returns.

We have a lot of guys on this team who can return. Bobby Rainey, Damien Berry, Asa Jackson (drafted as a return specialist as well), David Reed (who was a great return man despite those stupid fumbles), Lardarius Webb (though I hate the idea of him being out there), and those are just off the top of my head. I understand that Jacoby is a fan-favorite because of the crazy amount of returns he has had this year. He's been straight-up awesome, man! I loved him. But I can see him gone. I just don't know if we can keep all these WRs, and we don't cut draft picks. The only way I see Jones back is if he's here primarily as a return guy, and is paid as such and not as a third WR.

We have to pay Pitta, that's for sure. He won't leave. The Ravens won't let it happen. Far too much chemistry with Flacco. I bet that's even in the deal Flacco signed, that we had to re-sign Pitta. I find the chance of Pitta departing less than 0%. It's just not happening.

I just don't know. I suppose we'll have to see what happens here. But I'm not sure JJ is back. I don't know how we can afford to keep him, Boldin, Leach, re-sign guys like Ellerbe, Reed, McKinnie (if that happens), etc. I don't know how we can keep them in the following years when the cap increases on guys like Rice, Flacco, etc. I just see some cuts coming, some names departing. I'm just being realistic. It's a business and sometimes guys go. But maybe JJ takes a hometown discount to stay. You know, maybe he loves it here, and tells the Ravens "don't cut me! I'll play for 2M a year!" or something.

Agreed. I'm a big fan of Jacoby, and I fully expect him to get some sort of extension and stay for a few more years. With that being said, I wouldn't be shocked in the least if the team decided to cut him. Going off of Jacoby's sentiments (met him last night, hilarious guy), he fully expects to be back as well.

I agree about Pitta. No way he's going anywhere. The question on him is whether or not he gets his deal this year of next year.

In the end though, I think Jacoby and Anquan get extended. Pitta will get his deal either this year or next year. I think we hold off on Arthur Jones until next year. I feel like Leach could go either way, extended or cut. Bobbie Williams is definitely cut. I think Oher may get an extension toward the beginning of the season.

I agree with all of what you said. I really want us to get Arthur done now, but I really think it doesn't get done until next year. I see Bobbie Williams as good as gone. Leach is really iffy. He's making like 4.5M for a FB. That's a ton.

And that's cool you spoke to JJ! I like him. I hope we can extend him and somehow make it super cheap. I'd like him to be a Raven for another three years at least.

This is my issue, the FO has 11 million as of Flacco's signing, we need to sign a FS, ILB and a LT.

If Ellerbe is that ILB, he should cost roughly 6 million out of 11, leaving 5 million.(yes Ellerbes contract could be back loaded, but that would hurt us down the road)

That is 5 million to split between FS and LT, what kind of players are we going to get at FS and LT at 2.5 mil per???

Releasing Leach and Jones would push cap space to @ 20 million, with 20 million to play with Ozzie could resign Ellerbe, make a run at a top tier LT and maybe resign Ed Reed or another top FS in FA, like maybe pro-bowler William Moore out of Atlanta( who is expecting to command 5 years 25-30 mil, Moore is just an example, I would expect him to re-sign with the Falcons)

If we also release and re-sign Boldin that could add to the cap space. Of course I would prefer to keep Jacoby Jones and Leach. I also would expect Ozzie and company to exhaust all options to field the best team they can in 2013.

I think we're going to draft a free safety, or draft a corner and convert him to free safety. As far as left tackle, I think our best option is to try and work out a deal with McKinnie (yes I shuddered when I typed that) and try to draft a guy who is a bit of a project, maybe a Terron Armestead or Menelik Watson and hope that in a year or two they're ready to take over. Like you said, even with signing Joe to this deal, our other free agents are going to really strap our cap, so the best option is to try and draft a few guys, IMO.

I can see that approach being applied, one point tho, our best draft was in 1996, out of that draft we gained 2 immediate starters, J.O. and Ray Lewis, they were also both first round picks J.O. being a top five pick and the first OT off the board. Ray started 13 games and J.O. started 16 games his first year at left guard.

Basically my point is picking at #32 we are not filling the LT spot, we might get a starter at ILB or FS, the average starters out of all the drafted players per draft class is 26, the odds are we might not even have a starter in this years draft class.

2012 Osemele and Upshaw was part time.
2011 Torrey Smith came on as season progressed.
2010 none
2009 Oher at right tackle
2008 Joe Flacco
2007 Grubbs started 12 Yanda started 5

Take this with a grain of salt, but Mark Zinno on 105.7 The Fan said that Leach will probably get cut (hopefully re-signed), Kruger's as good as gone, he wants Williams back, thinks Reed will be back, but most interesting...

He said, supposedly, that Harbaugh told him personally that Oher will be LT next year week 1 no matter what except injury.

Kinda what I thought as well. But, what made no sense to me is he is saying that Oher is definitely starting there. It makes no sense. I thought we had competitions here?

Yeah, the entire statement, top to bottom, is worrisome. Lets hope its completely false and best man plays.

If that's the case then they have to be targeting a DT in the 1st, which is fine by me but that also must mean they plan on having Reid start at RT.
