We run a hybrid defense, lining up in the 3-4 & 4-3. I understand your point, but he would be a great situational pass rusher here opposite of Suggs. But I wouldn't break the bank for him either.
Because teams don't like to just give up picks. It's easy to say you can "just trade players for picks" but who would you trade and what would the value be?

Let me show you some recent trades so you actually understand how this works:

QB Alex Smith: 49ers trade Alex Smith to the Chiefs for a 2013 2nd round pick & a 2014 2nd or 3rd round pick.
CB Aqib Talib: Patriots trade 2013 4th round pick for Talib & a 7th round pick.
WR Mike Thomas: Jaguars trade WR Mike Thomas for an undisclosed 2013 draft pick. (usually that means it's a low-round, late 3rd day pick)
WR Greg Salas: Rams trade WR Greg Salas to the Patriots for a late-round 2015 draft pick.

I could keep going, but you see a trend & a theme. You can't just trade any player and if you do, they need to have some value. If you trade a lesser player, you won't get much in return. There needs to be a market & demand for the player. You can't just say "Let's trade Cody because he sucks and we're the only ones who see it". No NFL team wants to give up a draft pick for a chump. This isn't Kindergarten, here. These are professionals--businessmen--who run these organizations and make these trades, Brandon. This is why people get on you.

Tandon Doss has no trade value. Look at John Beck. We traded him to the Redskins for some player we ended up cutting. Look at Mark Clayton, former 1st round pick who wasn't bad but wasn't at all great. Traded him to the Rams for what, a 6th round pick that was swapped with our 7th round pick? Teams do not want to surrender draft picks for nothing in return. You need to have a product to sell something.

What about Andre Smith the free agent from the Bengals we could move him around to LT
I have read Smith wants 9 million per. Not that Andre is guaranteed to get that kind of money. He also has questions as far as pass pro.

Teams Like Dallas, Detroit and Philadelphia are looking for a strong safety and Detroit and Philadelphia are looking for QB's to compete with theirs so lets see who would give us the best trade value for Taylor and Pollard MAYBE A SECOND AND FOURTH Round Pick
WE ARE NOT I REPEAT NOT, giving up Pollard. He is prob the best SS in the NFL. He isn't injury prone, he had a reputation for being prob the hardest hitter in the game.

The teams first priorities should be starters across the board, as of this moment we have no starter/s at free safety, ILB and left tackle. We have starters at OLB in Suggs and Upshaw.

I dont know if it was mentioned yet...but I wouldnt mind signing FA WR Domenik Hixon to a 1-2 year deal. He will come very cheap and has shown that he can put up good numbers when he is given the chance to start, he is 6'3" and pretty fast and can be a bigger target for Flacco to throw to.

Why would we trade our future defensive leader in Bernard Pollard? He is signed through 2016, young, a relentless playmaker, and signed to a very cap friendly contract as well. We couldnt have a better SS, trading him would be probably the worst case scenario.

He was mentioned in the Free Agent WR Thread, yes. Would definitely bolster the receiving corps debt for cheap. I doubt NYG can afford to re-sign him.

I'm sticking by my prediction of Rolando McClain being the best cheap option once he is cut. I think he plays in 2013 and starts.

Rolando would be a great signing as his contract wouldn't hurt us in terms of compensatory picks and on top of it he shouldn't be that expensive.

I like Sammie Lee Hill & Vance Walker as NT signings, as well as Roy Miller & Pat Sims (though I think the latter will be more expensive than the former).

Yeah, his attitude has killed him in Oakland. He has never had the best attitude, but I think surrounding him with good character guys who use to be his teammates in Cody and Upshaw, along with a very respectable front office and coaching staff, I believe he matures and I also believe he can become elite in a 3-4 defense.

What about Antwan Barnes?
He would be a great addition as a pass rush specialist. I'd like him here. Just not sure he happens to be honest.

Also, didn't he and Harbaugh have some kind of issue, like he wouldn't play ST or something? I think that's why he was traded in the first place.

Time heals all wounds. Barnes is the type of cheap yet effective signing that Ozzie would make. The market is flooded with passrushers it seems.

Barnes is an excellent cheap option.

Rolando could have a Jacoby type resurrection with us.

Just read some crazy news!

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3648/eric-winston
Chiefs released RT Eric Winston.
Winston just signed a four-year, $22 million contract with Kansas City last offseason, but after franchising LT Branden Albert on Monday and there being a plethora of young tackle prospects in the draft, his services were no longer needed. The move saves just $700,000 in cap space. Winston should have plenty of options on the open market. For what it's worth, he's played most of his career in a zone-blocking scheme. A reunion with the Texans would make some sense. The Dolphins, Rams, Ravens, Redskins and Lions also showed interest in him last offseason. His release clears a path for the Chiefs to take one of Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft if they so choose. [background=transparent]Mar 6 - 8:20 PM[/background]
Well, we pursued him last year. I think there's a great chance we pursue him again. We'll stick him at RT and then move Oher back to LT. The move is great because we won't lose any compensatory picks for it. I really like this move, and I really hope Ozzie gets it done. I think there's a really good chance he is a Raven.

I think Oher will never be more than an average LT. But Castillo could do him wonders

I think with KO next to him, he will do if he is average.

I want the FO to sign Winston. Having Winston next to Yanda will make a solid tandem, IMO. He shouldn't even be that expensive since he has been cut again, but it doesn't bode well for a guy who has been cut two years in a row.

I wouldn't mind that at all. KO is a good guard. I think he could help Oher cover his flaws.

isn't this coming season the last year for Oher under his rookie contract?
he might push himself harder.
anyway we'll see what he's worth before offering a big contract.

I keep hearing about us needing to resign Boldin or how are the Ravens going to be without Boldin. Where did this start? He is STILL under contract. They might need to restructure his contract but we haven't cut him and he's not a free agent. I think we need to focus on our own guys including McKinnie. We can't pay Flacco all that money and not protect him. Otherwise we should move up to get Lane Johnson in the draft.

the need to (re)sign Q to a new two-three years contract is related to his big cap hit for this year - we should re-do his contract and I believe this will be done, Q will be here until he retires.
McKinnie is not our guy, he's free agent and from his recent interview(s), some of us learned he'll go for the highest bidder this year and Ravens won't go into such a war, we'll likely wait for waters to calm down aka how draft goes.
no way we can get Lane Johnson without giving away a LOT of picks, which won't happen.

Jake Long would be a sweet deal. I was simply laughing when I saw it mentioned earlier, but then I realized he may come cheap because 2012 jake long wasn't the 2010 first team all pro jake long. Still, if he comes cheap, could be a huge reward.

Andre smith is lazy and not very athletic. He had one decent yr at rt. but hasn't come close to playing to his draft position.

would we be able to afford jermon bushrod if mckinnie is not an option. he kept brees upright for over 4k yards. i don't know what each player charges . no one is talking about him he seems to be under the radar . when i hear Lt i hear names like long. this is a legitimate question?

He's not very good, don't let his pro bowl appearance fool you.

TE/FB James Casey is someone we should look at, great hands, quick, can block, versatile.
