About 2 million more than expected. Teams like ours should now be able to have a little more freedom. This can be be the difference between keeping or losing Reed. The highlight of winning the sb, besides the trophy is the fact the draft picks aren't expensive. You can also get a team that needs players to trade up for that pick so maybe they can work out a nice deal, while our team still gets people they were eying later on anyway. I feel Ozzie is looking for fill ins with the first two picks and depth after for situational roles.

About $6.4 million more than we did if they did not retire.

Also according to that article, the Ravens have about $17.981 million in cap room.

Assuming we are sitting at about $18 million in cap space, and we restructure possibly Suggs and Ngata to add hopefully another $3-5 million total in space, I think we have a chance to give Flacco a good deal and possibly retain Reed.

I was wondering because we didnt use what was considered extra cap from the new CBA for the past 2 seasons, doesnt that stack and can be used to increase our cap as well?

Ed Reed and Boldin were never leaving. I swear you all jump to too many conclusions. There is no way we were losing Boldin, and we are willing to pay Ed. Will probably resign Ellerbe as well.

Kruger and Cary are gone. Mckinnie might be gone to.

I don't think anyone said Boldin was leaving. People said they thought he could be a cap casualty with Flacco, Ellerbe, Kruger, Williams, Reed, etc. as UFAs & Pitta, Jones, Dickson, Oher, Leach, JJ, Boldin & Graham as UFAs in 2014.

That is a bold statement. After all, I cannot say there were many that felt Heap or Mason would be cut like they were. You never know what the FO might do that eventually looks like good business.

Heap and Mason were cut because they were pretty much done and had very little left in them. Boldin, Leach, etc. all still have a couple years ahead of them. This is a different situation. Heap and Mason were cut on basis of money and production. Any cuts this year, besides Bobbie Williams most likely, will be on pure basis of money. They want to keep these guys if possible. I think Heap and Mason were gone regardless of money.

In hindsight I agree, but at the time I and most of the fanbase was shocked. I also agree that Boldin and Leech are still in their playing prime, but monetary issues could lead to players being lost. Even good ones, since they are paid more. It is not out the question that the Ravens may cut some good productive players. To state emphatically that they will not be cut is bold. I hope you are right. I am not certain of it. Although knowing the cap has eased a little makes me a bit more positive.

I would hate to see Boldin or Leech go.

After the Flacco contract we should still have roughly 14M in cap space, with more potential moves to come.

I think we need to keep Pitta and Jones at least at 2nd round tenders if not longer deals. Dickson should be tendered as well as an original round tender. That is about 5.5M. Add in Morgan Cox ~1M. We also have several ERFAs that need to be tendered. McClellan, Rainey, Bynes, Brown, Allen, Hall, Cook etc...that might come close to 5M all told

That leaves us with not so much cap space, maybe 2-3M which probably isnt even enough to sign our incoming draft class.

IMO we still need to make a few cuts and/or extensions. Bobbie Williams will save about 1M, and Vonta Leach 3M if cut, maybe he takes less to stay but he gets paid way too much for the amount of snaps he sees.

I think Boldin will be asked to take a paycut or maybe given a 2-3 year deal at a lower rate. Jacoby Jones is due 4M which is a lot for a 3rd WR who play 25-30 snaps + ST. He is a dynamic player, and ideally we can give him a 3-4 year deal that relieves cap for this season but still pays him 3-4M a year.

I havent even gotten to bringing back UFAs. Ellerbe is a priority IMO and then Reed. I dont see a way Kruger comes back even though we could use him. I think McKinnie is right up there with Ed as 2nd priority.
