He gave them no discount, they are really paying him more up front money.
The meat of the deal is guaranteed money too.

I heard that ED might be in the market for a sports agent. He sounds serious about following the money to whoever is wiling to pay....

They've been getting shot down since that loss to Eli in the '07 season. It doesn't matter how hungry they are, they just can't finish anymore.

Yup, looking back at recent history, the fortunes of SB losing teams is very dim. They've all seemed snake-bitten.

I can understand Ed chasing the money. He has accomplished everything possible here in Baltimore. All Pro's, multiple records, a HOF career, a SB ring, widely regarded as the best safety ever. Nothing left to accomplish. Now is his time to secure the financial future for his grandchildren's children. Nothing wrong with that.

Ed Reed's heart is with The Baltimore Ravens! Tom Brady probably saying right now, " Please, Come To The New England Patriots Ed Reed, I need you I can't win a championship any more, HELP ME ED REED,PLEASE.Or you will make me cry, OH, WAIT I already have started crying, because The Baltimore Ravens GOT THE BEST QUARTERBACK IN THE NFL AND THAT BEING JOE FLACCO!GO RAVENS!

Its hard to disagree. Except if Ed thinks 5mil a year in NE is "chasing the money". He had issues with how much he's been paid the last couple years per season, and I think this year it was 7.5 or something wasn't it? I'd be shocked if we don't offer Ed int he ballpark of 5mil.

Im almost positive Ozzie will treat this the same way he did with Lewis. Let it be known he's wanted here, the organization wants him to retire a Raven and assume that kind of legendary status in Baltimore as a HOF'er who stayed in Baltimore. It wouldn't surprise me if at the end of Ed's run (if he stays in Baltimore) that he has a chance to bring another championship to Baltimore and definitely take a seat beside Lewis and Unitas atop the Baltimore castle. We'd always love him as a Raven but it just wouldn't be the same if he left.

However it could also not happen and he could run for the extra 1.5mil or so a year lol.

Has the thought crossed anyones mind, Lardarius Webb was a safety in College, and could possibly move in to the position if Reed leaves?

Notice you're a new comer. Welcome. You and Irrelevant should come into contact, he needs help out in SF with the 49er fans lol.

Your idea has been discussed at length but basically the conclusion most people on the forum came up with was that its far more difficult to find a top tier CB, like Webb, than to find top tier safeties. In Webbs case we don't know how good he'd be at S at the NFL level anyway, and we already know how good he is at CB. With today's game, why bother to risk it? In a couple of years when he starts slowing down at around 30, I think the Ravens will look into moving him to safety.

It's over then, Ed Reed is going to be a Patriot. The Ravens do not have the cap space to compete with that deal.

what makes you think he's as good as gone? Why would he accept a 5 mil a year when he turned down 7 mil last year? If he only wants as much as they're offering right now, we will definitely match that. He would only leave baltimore if the deal is right and at that price, he won't leave. But If someone wants to pay him over 7 mil a year, fine.
Flacco deal is done and pretty much set in stone (Monday he signs) so that opens the door for the Ravens negotiation process to expand to Ellerbe, Reed, and further. Patriots offered reed a 5 million dollar deal, it was reported that the Ravens offer him 7 million, it makes no sense for Reed to turn down 7 million and accept 5 million. when his reasoning was that he believed he could get MORE than 7 before this past season. Reed has stated he wants to be back, Ravens want him back, and they both understand theres a process the team has to go through first, and right now, Reed isn't the TOP priority. BUT he is a priority . we will see. I mean now that the Flacco deal is done, which many thought may not happen, things should or could speed up a bit.

Look, just an idea of Ed Reed being a Patsie makes me sick. We deal with all teams except 2, Patsies & Squeelers. Just imagine Ravens in Playoffs going AGAINST Ed Reed, that would not be good. So to prevent anything like this from happening, I strongly expect Ravens to resign Ed to stay in Baltimore.

May not be a bad idea with that. Certainly less stress on his legs and the FO has to find a way for him to live out his contract in regards to length and ability. We got lucky once he came back just as strong from 1 knee procedure. 2 is really rolling the dice.

$8 million for an aging S? No thanks. If we're signing Ed, we're paying him what his value is now, not what it used to be.

we've got what $20 million in Cap left. I only really see us taking Ed and Ellerbe. Only way I see us retaining Kruger is if teams don't really want to pay him top dollar.

Same goes for McKinnie and Cary. I'd like them back but they seem to be asking for too much. If no team meets their prices I could see them potentially coming back.......potentially (but unlikely).

If we lock in Ed and Ellerbe than we just need to address NT/DT, LT and our pass rushing, which we can do in the draft or free agency

sorry Ed. it's been nice. no way we can match that. i know the patriots secondary is hurting, but i think 5 mil is a little much for a safety whose quality of play is steadily declining. I'd love to have him, but not for that kind of price.

Need to tender Pitta, Art Jones. that might be pretty pricey no that i think about it. 2x 2nd round tender if we are lucky

Dickson gets tendered for sure. Pitta will probably get a deal, and Jones might, too.

I just want you all to know you all gave me a nightmare last night. That Ed signed with Seattle. Almost pissed the bed. But I have faith in Ozzie.

we are going to have to rework or extend 2 existing contracts to make room

Dickson is a good blocking tight end and there really isn't anyone else we can get as easily as we can keep Dickson.

1. Ed Reed does not deserve $7 million. That's way overpriced for an aging safety. I know he's one of the best to ever play the game, but that shouldn't reflect his price now.

2. Dickson will stay for the simple fact that he's cheap, and no one else will make a move to sign him. He'll cost us roughly $1.33 million next year. It would cost other teams whatever contract they offer + a 3rd round pick.
