To who?

I don't know, but I can see a team desperate and trade up to get a pick. Possibly give up a 1st next year in the process as well as a 2nd this year.

see you cant just say that. If you cant come up with one team who would do it, it kind lends to my theory about the pick being very untradeable.

The best prospect in the draft is likely Jockel. So the question becomes who would trade for Jockel. Given the depth at LT in this draft no one in the top 10 would trade up to number one. Anything higher than that and we are talking about paying a QB ransom in draft picks to get a good, but not special LT which no one would do.

Well, I'll play your game since you want to play. What team would want to trade up to #1 overall to get a player? Well, the profile would be a team who is desperate for a player, perhaps they feel like they are one player away or this player would put them over the top. It would need to be an elite player, the very best, to trade up to #1.

I could see San Diego do it in an attempt to get Rivers the very best LT they can. They have been inconsistent at LT for a while, and need a player there. They have a good corps of WRs. Not great but they're pretty good. They have a good TE. They have a gaping hole at LT and if they believe the LT spot puts them over the top, I can see it. I can also see them trade up to get a dominant NT/DT like a Ngata-type of player. Heck, it could be Floyd. They could trade up for a dominant pass rusher. But really, when I think of a team desperate to trade up to #1 overall, I think of the Chargers. Now, it's an inter-divisional trade. They are rare but they happen, and the Chargers would need to give up a lot to acquire it. But it is very possible for them to get it, and there's a good chance the player that KC wants could still be there when they pick at #11.

On top of it being an interdivisional trade, Jockel/Fischer has been somewhat debated so they might opt to trade up for Fischer if so inclined, or they could just wait for Lane Johnson.

I know you're playing the game, but SD really?

I gotta agree with Sizzle on this one. Why would SD move up to take Joeckel when they can just stay at #11 and take Lane Johnson? I don't think there is that much of a difference and I doubt FO's do either. The only way I could see a team move up is if they wanted to secure a QB (I would guess Geno Smith). I think Cleveland could potentially do this.

Well, perhaps they trade up for Fisher. It was more of an example of the type of team I'd expect to trade than me saying I felt like San Diego would trade up. It was also just off the top of my head without really putting a lot of thought into it. Also, GMs sometimes become infatuated with prospects and do trade up if they feel like they have to have a player. See Julio Jones. I realize that's a very extreme example, but it's one I'd like to highlight.

It was the first team off the top of my head. I just finished reading an article that essentially said they were desperate to surround Rivers with talent, so I could see them trade up if they were infatuated with a LT prospect.

Cleveland is certainly a possibility.

The bottom-line is I can see a team trade up to get the #1 pick, and I feel the profile would be a team who feels like they are on the cusp of getting far and are a piece or two away.

The Chiefs needed an upgrade even if it was a slight one (Smith is better than Cassel). There is no one in this draft worthy of the Chiefs' first rounder and going into next season with Cassel still at QB wasn't going to work (their fan base would be livid). This gives them room to use their pick on another position and just pray that Andy Reid can get the most out of Alex Smith like Jim Harbaugh did (which he can IMO).

Most KC fans are pretty upset about this trade from what I have gathered, for anyone who cares.

I would be as well. Who wants Alex Smith starting?

Because it was a step backwards. Put Cassel on SF and I bet he'd do the same as Smith. KC needed to create the system not go and buy the product of the system.

More so then Smith starting, because I believe him to be a better overall qb and a better athlete than Cassel. People here in chiefs country are furious because they are giving up a 2nd rounder this year and potentially a 2nd round next year and the pick this year is for all reality almost a 1st round pick.

Makes sense. I wouldn't be happy either with losing what is essentially a 1st round pick and whatever pick they will lose in 2014. They really lost out on this deal. I think the best thing they could do is trade down from the #1 overall pick and acquire more picks from that.

Smith will get a chance to play the part of hero on a team that has been absolutely ravaged by incompetence at QB. They've already got Dwayne Bowe, Dexter McCluster and a serviceable TE and the defensive pieces, so Reid just has to get some strict new coordinators and draft smartly.

What is San Fran supposed to do with all those picks? Everyone kept saying they're the most stacked team in the NFL. Who can they draft at the ends of rounds that's going to crack the starting lineup anywhere? The only thing they still lack is an elite QB. In the meantime, the pistol/read-option is only going away - not getting stronger. Now they gave away the QB who doesn't need a trick college offense to win and have no insurance policy in case their "whack 'em on every play" pistol QB who's prone to leaving the pocket gets hurt.

They're placing a lot of eggs in the Kaepernick basket, to be sure. Do you know SF's QB3 is?

Expect SF to draft a dark horse QB in the later rounds for some cheap insurance, in case Kaeprnick doesn't work out.

No it isn't the worst one by a long shot. Still think the Palmer deal wins that hands down.

In fact, I don't think it's that bad. Smith performed decently in the 2011 season and 2012 prior to his injury. KC was a hair away from pulling an athletic looking guy from the stands to play QB. It's a 2nd round pick and a mid round in 2014. Not that bad really for a team that isn't that bad all around and basically lacking any stability at QB.

The question becomes, who will be Kaepernick's back-up? Because I think he'll be in need of one eventually.
Agree 100% on both Palmer being the worst trade and Kaepernick needing a backup in the future.

Perhaps they bundle the picks to move up in the 1st round

I still have little faith in the pistol offense and Kaepernick. If it were not for Ngata getting hurt midway through the game, the last Super Bowl wouldn't have been even close.
That offense still has trouble dealing with anybody playing remotely physical football.

This. Not to mention what equated to 70 time outs all in a row to calm themselves down. Not sold on that pistol offense in the least, nor K-man yet. We'll see what next season brings.

I expect the Niners to bring back Josh Johnson to back-up Kaepernick. Or maybe they go for The Next Smith, lol.

Edit: I swear, I didn't read Rotoworld before posting this. I just checked Roto and they said this exact same thing. Lol.

Alex Smith's ultimate revenge fantasy: beat Kaepernick and the 49ers in the Super Bowl! Unfortunately for him, the Chiefs are several years from becoming contenders, especially with Peyton now in the AFC West.

I think they can easily be playoff contenders and could get hot at the right time. They have a solid OL, add Joeckel or Fisher. Nice weapons with Bowe (if he stays - which it sounds like), nice stable of RBs. And a very underrated D. I am excited to watch them and they did well holding Peyton last year, they just needed some points

Keep in mind KC had the lowest scoring offense in the league, the 31st takeover TO differential, the 25th in points given up, with opponents scoring an average of 27 pt. They have a lot of deficiencies that they must address.

I'm rooting for Alex. This is a perfect chance for him to redefine his career. He has a good running game behind him with Jamaal Charles, and some good WRs with Bowe, McCluster, and Baldwin. Plus he'll have Joeckel protecting his blindside.
