Just watched the episode again, and I'm really displeased with how they handled John's introduction to Mance Rayder. I liked the whole thing in the book with the songs and the him being at the banquet, and John's reasoning for joining made so much more sense in the book. That scene could have been so much more than it was, I'm interested to see how they handle the John and Ygritte relationship now.

That should be interesting to watch unfold.

They casted her really well I think, I love Rose Leslie's inflection.

I like how Rose portrays her character. Very coy.

Word. She's probably the hottest girl on that show, but it is a stiff competition between her, Emilia Clarke, and Oona Chaplin.

I bet you have a thing for Peter Dinklage, too! ;)

That's why that April Fools joke they did was so not funny. I might stop watching if they replaced Dinklage with Davis.

You read that, too? Gotta be careful on the farce that is April 1st.

Time for another gem tonight!
I forget where certain events happened in the book, I'm wondering when we'll see a certain duel.

You were talking about Jamie's fight, right?

No, but it looks like the fight I'm talking about might be next week.

By the way, the guy who was Thoros should have been Tom Sevenstrings. Not how I envisioned that character at all, and that portrayal might be the only time the show did that wrong.

The Queen of Thorns was well done though (those of you who didn't read might find out why soon), I always liked that character.

I was a bit worried when I saw that Jojen was the kid from Love, Actually, but apparently he grew up and actually fit in line with how I envisioned the character being. Of course, the Jojen and Meera arrival made more sense in the books...

That's the kind of cliffhanger GoT episodes like to end on. I was waiting to see how they would handle that without Vargo Hoat and the difference in the Northern troop deployments.

I wish HBO aired more than 1 rerun. My TV acted weird on me tonight and now I'm behind! :pcshot:

If you subscribe to HBO you probably have access to HBO Go and can watch it anytime. They also replay them during the week, I believe.

I have HBO On Demand at home. How many weeks does HBO keep an episode up before taking it away?

I dunno, their shows are up indefinitely on HBO Go.

Their interference with the timeline has made me question what behind the scenes stuff was going on still in the book.  I thought Littlefinger was much sneakier about his dealings with Sansa in the book.

I also didn't realize that Loras wasn't part of the Kingsguard, and they never had the Sam the Slayer moment, which I thought was important to his development.

I thought this week's episode was the best one in a while. The closing scene with Daenarys showed off Emilia Clarke's legitimate acting chops and the edge that makes the character interesting. Honestly, the Qarth storyline was destined to be a bit boring, but it couldn't be cut without messing up the timeline way too much. Now we're getting a meaty story for Daenary's again and I love it.

The fact that we're established in the season is a great thing for Game of Thrones. We can afford to take some time off from certain characters for a week or two to focus on developing longer scenes with a smaller set of characters, and that's what makes this episode work. A couple of scenes for Varys (Conleth Hill knocks it out of the park with the best episode yet for the Varys), a couple with Jaime and Brienne, and couple with Margaery (Natalie Dormer has been fantastic, too) allow them to develop stories rather than feel rushed and packed together when they have to cram in half of the large number of characters.
