PS4/Xbox One Discussion

490 posts in this topic

My only concern is that DICE LA is developing it. DICE LA used to be Danger Close. EA rebranded them to DICE LA because their previous 2 games are awful.

They won't have to do much to make people happy though. Just make a decent Star Wars shooter, anything beyond that will be simply be a bonus, and it'll sell like crazy. Edited by sliceanddic3

Its going to be hard for the X-box One to beat out the PS4 at launch now. Retail at 100 fewer dollars, abilty to play used and borrowed games, no online requirements every day to confirm you didn't steal something you purchased. Sony definitely focused on the consumer aka what gamers want and Microsoft focused on being a media device with tons of company control over said media.

In other words, to borrow the quote I saw circulating the internet last night: the XBOne may be Xboned...

It looks as though the Xbox One will be a massive flop.

Microsoft can still cave to the consumer. We'll have to see what happens. It doesn't look great for them, though. Regardless of what they do they will still look stupid because they did this in the first place. It was a big risk but most consumers will probably forgive them if they reversed course and in addition have the games the consumers want.

This Ryse game looks awesome.

Microsoft: "The Xbox One is OUR console and we'll tell you how to use it!!!"

I guess they're trying to take the Apple approach.

To be fair, it hasn't worked out so bad for Apple.

But really Microsoft needs to focus on being a good Microsoft instead of a bad Apple. They built themselves as a software company and now they are trying to move into the hardware realm with all the subtlety of a nuke.

Plus the PS4 is $100 cheaper at $399. I really was expecting the PS4 to be more and was going to wait but since it is only $399, I'll get this year.

Would anyone oppose merging the PS4 thread with this thread and calling it, "Next Gen Video Game Discussion". Thoughts?

Yeah. Sounds like an idea to me. I've been thinking the same.

I'm not yet decided between these two systems. I'm trying to be open minded. I'm not happy Sony will charge us now for online multiplayer.

The Xbox One is launching in the UK at £430, while the PS4 will be £340.

£430 = $672

£340 = $531

I can't help feeling totally screwed by that pricing. What hve the UK gamers done to deserve a MASSIVE price hike?

Really? I don't play online but I was thinking about the possibility of a Ravens Forum Madden 25 Connected Franchise League with members of the board but if they are charging to play multiplier, forget it.

From my understanding, Sony is requiring you to subscribe to the Playstation Plus program to play online multiplayer. That's what I got from it. It's not a bad service. I'm just not a fan of paying for it but it's going to happen eventually I guess.

I already have a Wii U. I'm a diehard Nintendo fan but I've always had two systems due to Nintendo's weak third party support. I'm going to patiently wait before I decide on one of these systems. I think things are still fluid and may change on Microsoft's front.

Yeah. That is a bit absurd. I guess they're trying to get more money because their currency is stronger lol. I'm not sure.

Same here.

Sony's come out the clear winner, with Nintendo just behind and it seems Microsoft hasn't even started the race yet. Also, why did EA do something good? That's not like them.. Do I, thank them?.. That can't be right..

I think Microsoft's biggest blunder wasn't announcing all this DRM crap, it was not buying BioWare.  If they had a developer like that under MGS there wouldn't be a discussion as to what system would ultimately wind up being better because they would be the one that had better games.

And Microsoft wouldn't have rushed ME3 as much and forced them put in a horrid and illogical ending, but that's a different thing entirely.

But first party game support sucks on all systems now.

What is that last sentence supposed to mean? Nintendo has the best first party games and they definitely don't suck.

PS4 seems much better

They definitely won e3. No question there. I can't say they won this console war yet or that the PS3 is definitively the best system between ps3 and Xbox.

I agree. So far it seems better, but it's still too early

That's the problem, they have really struggled at making decent shooters, especially on the multiplayer side of things.

Just an FYI, while I'm not thrilled about it being a requirement for multiplayer, that is the only thing it is a requirement for. You will still be able to play single-player games and use other internet/streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, etc without being a PS Plus member. But you already knew that Grim from your comments, just informing all other participants in this thread

.

That said $45 a year is not bad when you consider all of the perks that come with paying for multiplayer. I'm currently a Plus member and they have all kinds of free games, from smaller indie titles to $60 big studio games, to play as long as you are a subscriber and they usually add new ones every month. I've downloaded the first Darksiders game, Deux Ex: Human Revolution, Infamous 2 and several others for free but have yet to check them out due to my current obsession with Borderlands 2, haha.

Another note as I saw it mentioned a page earlier or so, neither system is backwards compatible with their predecessors (never thought they would be but I would personally love it) but at least Sony is working on some cloud-based streaming via Gaikai (the cloud company they purchased last year) on PS4 for most of their major PS3 titles to be available at some point in 2014. Microsoft at this point has zero plans for a similar feature with their 360 library.

Yeah. The perks definitely make the price easier to swallow. Lol.

I heard about that too, I'm looking forward to that.

I haven't played Xbox since the first one really, does Xbox Live's Gold membership offer free games? Just curious because I've never heard any of my friends who have 360s mention it. PS Plus has been doing it since its inception a couple of years ago.

I'm not sure. I got the 360 a long time ago but I sold it because I frankly lost interest in it. I never owned the first Xbox. For the limited time I had the 360 it was great online. I loved the online play. The communication really made the games fun.

I switched to the PS3 and never turned back having it and the Wii and now Wii U.

They haven't since it's release, but are going to start doing it in July this year.
