Horrible name lol

What's even worse is they probably paid millions of dollars to come up with that.

Ultimately pressers are for industry people, and all of the big three suck at giving them.  What they say won't influence my decision at all, I'm buying one regardless.  I just wish Naughty Dog could be pried away from being a PlayStation exclusive, their games are the only reason to buy one of those.

Yeah that name is just a big contradiction.

Btw watch the Mr caffeine guy from the ubisoft presser. Probably the worst presser I have ever witnessed, it was also pretty funny.

It's technically a fee; You're paying for the full retail price of the game according to the Vice President of Microsoft, Phil Harrison.

http://www.technobuffalo.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-fee-for-buying-used-games-full-retail-price/

You can play the game over your friend's house by using your Xbox Live Account but if you wanted to borrow a game or buy a used game from Gamestop, you;ll have to have your friend's Xbox Live Account information or you have to pay the full $60. Wow. Just wow.

Sony can't design interfaces at all, have worthless console exclusive titles (with the aforementioned exception of Uncharted or anything else by Naughty Dog, pending the quality of The Last of Us), and have an inferior controller.  I admit I'm in the minority on the controller, and it's likely because I have much larger hands than the average man, but my fingers bash up against each other quite often when I use it.  The Xbox controller feels so much better in my hands.  Regardless, I think Xbox offers better games for me, but it is difficult to say that when a company doesn't focus on the games.  Hopefully they'll show something more at E3.

I mainly play Madden, Fifa, and Nba 2k so for me that isn't much a factor. I'm all for PS3 because I can play my games online for free.

I've never had a problem paying for Xbox Live because the service is so much better than anything I experienced over the PS2 or the PS3 online, but you're not the only one to hold that opinion.

As someone who has never bought a used video game, I couldn't care less about that.

You're in the minority.

Some of you have never watched these things before have you? They show a FEW games on it, not many. They always show the major features and new stuff. They save the games for E3, thats the point.

You may be right, but I have any friends who have bought used games either.  Perhaps you are mistaken.

Trust me, there are a ton of people who are pissed about the preowned game fee. Just wait a little while, I'm sure you'll hear their cries. I'm sure there are many like you who really don't mind, but there are large number of us who buy primarily used games.

Oh they've already started whining about it, they were whining before it was announced.  My guess is the fee is overblown and inflated at the moment, and there still exists a possibility of it being eliminated.  I'm fairly certain Xbox One was designed to be 'always on', but they changed that when there was a massive outcry before it was officially announced.  My hope is that it ultimately drives the prices of new games down.  Developers lose money from people buying used games, if they don't have to worry about that maybe it will work out to be a good thing.  If it puts GameStop out of business that's a plus.

I did find some numbers, you're partially right.  88% of gamers buy new physical copies of games, but about 70% purchase used games as well.  Again it's something I don't deal with, I don't trust used products.  http://news.mmosite.com/content/2013-03-06/78_percent_of_core_gamers_buy_used_games.shtml

Doesn't matter. The fact that the "major features" are features that add very little if anything at all to gaming is a problem. At the end of the day, the system is supposed to be a gaming console. The extra stuff is cool, but there's a great chance that anybody in the market for brand new console already has technology in their house that does the majority (if not all) of the X1's features that they showed today better than it can do them. So what does that leave you with? Very little.

Sony's PS4 conference at the very least demonstrated features that could be beneficial to gamers (even if it's not for everyone) on top of showing some games for it. Even the features that they showed that could benefit gamers wasn't very impressive. Waiting for E3 is fine, but this reveal leaves much to be desired for core gamer.

Yeah, I've never bought a used game either, and neither have many of my friends.

This is a mistake on Microsoft's part. Hopefully my 360 stays healthy for a few more years.

Count me among the 77% percent. I buy used games more frequently than new ones, but I do buy new ones too as long as they are old and cheap.

I have never and will never spend the better part of one hundred dollars on a single game.

Cole Mcgrath begs to differ.

That reminds me that I still haven't beaten Infamous 2 yet...

I've bought used games before so. I'm interested in seeing what the games cost with the used game factor not accounted for in the initial price. If games remain 60 dollars then I have a problem.

It's also a pain because now you can't borrow games or rent them.

I'm very interested in seeing how Microsoft approaches that aspect.

Maybe its just me, but I always seem to be comparing any major presser to ones done by Apple. The way they give you good info (granted with spin, but its a presser afterall) and then all the specs you want to know (price, release date, options, etc.) has always impressed me.

Same here. This anti-consumer approach will not bold well for Microsoft if it is indeed the only console manufacturer to implement the practice (Still don't know if Sony does this some capacity). As others have said, the only way this doesn't backfire on Microsoft is if game prices come down significantly and/or there are huge sales similar to Steam and I doubt that happens honestly (with games getting more expensive to make) and at that point I'd rather go PC altogether anyway.

Bottom line: Handcuffing your consumer as to what they can do when exploring purchasing options and what they can do with a game after they buy it is demonstrating that the product isn't for the consumer that enjoys freedom with products they buy (and I don't know not one person who doesn't like freedom with how they obtain the stuff that they buy). Even if you never planned on buying a used game, borrowing, and/or letting your friend borrow a game of yours, this practice doesn't even give you the option to do so and it's something gamers have been allowed to do on consoles for as long as I remember. Taking that away from the consumer will not bode well for Microsoft especially if it's the only manufacturer that does it and it's looking like it will be.

I can understand the enmity towards used games. I mean everyone wants more money, but come on that is just unrealistic. They charge an arm and a leg for a new game and then they want more?

I have never owned an Xbox and that is not going to change any time soon.

I'm not as much of a gamer as I used to be, but isn't Nintendo still focusing on 8 year olds, 80 year olds, and pretty much no one else (except Zelda and a couple of other outliers)?

Not even close. There are games like Fire Emblem and even Luigi's Mansion is difficult, but fun game, both are great games and not completely focusing on kids. Plus, the 3DS is such a cool system technology wise and is still beating the PSP Vita in sales I do believe. Not just for kids, ton of great titles coming this year as well.

You're in the minority.

I buy very few used games as well. The only ones currently in my 30+ game PS3 library that I have purchased used are Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas (and I merely bought it off of a coworker for $10 who didn't like the game after buying it new, the antithesis of my methods of purchasing) and Heavy Rain. I do massive amounts of research on what games I want to invest in and as such am never disappointed with my new purchases. The only game I've bought in the last 5 years that I was truly disappointed with and regretted buying was Assassin's Creed III (just my perspective, I know there are a lot of lovers of that game on here). If its a game I know that I am certain to purchase, than I'm likely going to go ahead and buy it new.

As far as the XBox one goes, if I were a Microsoft console user, I would be discouraged by some of these announcements. At least they changed the always online feature but forcibly downloading a game to the hard drive? What's the point of even selling physical disc copies? Just sell the game solely through XBox Live if that's the case and save a bit on disc manufacturing. Speaking of which, any word on what type of disc format the One will be using? I guess it doesn't really matter if you have to download it to the hard drive anyway, but I think Microsoft lost out some on not incorporating Blu Ray into their 360 game discs (i.e. LA Noire shipped on 1 PS3 Blu Ray, it took 3 discs for the 360 version, Mass Effect 3 was 1 PS3 blu ray, 2 360 discs, etc).

The X1 uses Blu-Ray, making the forced installs potentially even more disappointing depending on the size of the games. That 500 GB hard drive may start looking mighty small after awhile.

Very true, a hardcore gamer will eat up that hard drive space in a year. Not to mention the space needed for DLC, personal music, photo and video files, and other video streaming programs, etc. Before you COULD install your games to the hard drive to make the experience a little smoother on both consoles, now? I saw no mention of forced hard drive downloads when the PS4 was announced last month but that doesn't neccessarily mean Sony isn't planning the same schtick. I likely won't be purchasing a PS4 this year anyway but I'm hoping they're not that foolish...

I guarantee the only reason they didn't ship it with a 1 TB HD is so they can get you to buy a proprietary larger HD when you run out of space.

They can't have you install entire games on the hard drive, that makes no sense.  I'm guessing that's overblown, and it'll just be a portion or an ident code.

The lack of storage space could also be a push by Microsoft to get people to use 'The Cloud', assuming they integrate Xbox One with it.  That would make me upset, I don't want my stuff on 'The Cloud'.

I wasn't all that excited about the PS4 either, but the philosophical focus for Sony seems to be atleast on gaming. The PS4 is all about sharing of game experiences online and integrating social media into it, which I guess is a big part of gaming now (all the "Lets Play"-videos on the web considered). The X-Box One (gosh, what a dumb name) looks like a glorified remote by now. Switching around channels is a big selling point? Has anyone really this much trouble using the their TV?
